yeeeww SNAKE!

My dh was bit by a copperhead while mowing our grass a few weeks ago. He is OK, but had a swollen/painful ankle for a week. He was not able to kill the copperhead (it was hidden in brush he was mowing up against). The very next day, we saw a king snake on the same side of the yard. We left the king snake alone and are hoping that it has or will eat the copperhead. Rest assured, any poisonous snake spotted in yard will be shot on sight! In the past, we have used shovels/hoes to kill snakes, but after dh's experience we will not get that close to one.

To the poster that commented about moccasins in NC rivers, last summer I had a water moccasin swim between my son and I while we were swimming in the river (we were about five feet apart). My dbil reached down from the dock and pulled ds out of the river immediately and I had to wait until the snake swam away from the dock before I could get out. I remember the terror I felt very vividly and have been cautious about swimming in the river ever since.
