Day 5 (part 2) - Monday, November 15, 2004:
CAST OF CHARACTERS:
MOM - 57 year old somewhat disney nut.
ME - 34 year old DISNEY NUT who has had to wait one full year for her Disney fix.
TODAY'S AGENDA:
1. Animal Kingdom - done
2. Lunch at AK - done
3. Epcot and Dinner at Garden Grill
We made it back to BW by 4. We were tired but not overly tired. We decided to do laundry (my shirt certainly needed it) so I took our laundry down to 1 turned the corner and all the machines were open. Loaded in two loads (including towels from room) and began laundry (no coins needed as its free to those staying there - yep another free item - wow what a day).
I then went back upstairs to take a bath and get ready for dinner. 1/2 hour later mom put clothes in dryer. I went to go check on them about 5:00 and the dryer was drying them but it was slow going so I restarted the machine and came back down another 20 minutes later. The clothes were still a bit damp but took them out as we needed to leave. Mom and I placed them around the room to dry and headed off to the dock to the take the boat to Epcot.
As we walked past Canada, Off Kilter was playing so we stopped and watched them for a bit. Mom has never seen Journey into Immagination since they changed it so we went on that as I knew there wouldn't be a line. Needless to say, mom won't ever be going back on it again (we both liked the original). We then walked over to Honey, I shrunk the audience and watched that (we always get a laugh on this one too). At this point we needed to check in at Garden Grill as it was 7:00. We were told that there would be a few minute wait (2 minutes at best) and were lead to our table.
They change the menu here every so many months and it just wasn't as good as the last time we ate here. We had whole grain bread (not very tasty) with house salad and ranch dressing (okay, but not as good as dinner at LTT). Then they brought out the skillet. They also had pork, ham, fish and flank steak (all basically tasted the same as LTT but flank steak had an asian taste to it). I used to love the mashed potato's here but that is out now they have scalloped pot. (wasn't crazy about them). They had a medley of steamed veggies, stuffing, mac and cheese. In the meantime we were licked by Pluto, Chip and Dale visited at the same time and played games with us and then Farmer Mickey made an appearance and we wished him well on his upcoming birthday (2 or 3 days later). Afterward they served Apple Crisp with Vanilla ice cream (same dessert at LTT but called Apple Cobbler there). The food was good but I liked what they had in Dec. 2002 better.
The past 3 times I visited this rest. it hasn't been full which is why I think they change the menu to see if anything else will work. I think that these venues need to change the characters up instead. Most places you meet either Mickey or Minnie and then there is always Chip and Dale, Pluto and Goofy. I don't understand why they can't throw in others like Donald, Daisy, the villians, Alice in Wonderland, etc. People will like the food but they really want variety in characters. Okay off of soapbox now.
We finished, paid $55 and headed to ride SSE again and then Test Track. Mom rode once with me and then I continued to ride it alone once more. We booked it through the WS as we wanted to be on the Friendship boats by the time that Illuminations began and almost made. We were just reaching England when Ill. began so no one was on the boat and we got to watch most of it as we were pulling away from the Inter. Gateway. The good news here was since F&W festival ended, the normal crowd was now in Epcot and you didn't have to play dodge the groups when walking through the World Showcase.
Got back to BW by end of Illuminations and went to the room. I decided to take a late night swim as we were heading off late tomorrow to MGM. Mom stayed in the room and folded all the clothes/towels and made phone calls.
I went down to Luna Park and there were maybe 7 people in the pool. The pool was warming up but a little bit cool at this point. I didn't stay in it very long but decided to try out the spa (I did remember my roscea this time). I put my foot in the spa which wasn't hot but somewhere inbetween the pool and what the spa should've been but it was comfortable and soothing my sore muscles without being hot enough to turn my face purple.
You know its amazing what you learn. There was a couple in early 60's from Canada in the spa. Nice couple who gets to travel alot and we talked about various places. The kids from the pool eventually caused havic for us in the spa but it was a funny story as the youngest was quite the character. Turns out that he is one of 5 children from Boston and he is an attention hog but is very funny and not afraid of anything (sister, brother, mother, threats, nothing). His mom came over and began telling us stories about him and the other kids (he was adopted). The kids were going in between the pool and spa. When they were in the pool she stated that this was going to be there last vacation at Disney. Her husband is terminal (kids don't know it) and he will probably be gone within next two years and she is having to sell her DVC there after that vacation. I really hated to hear that for all of them because it will be hard enough to adjust after the death but to have 5 kids to deal with (God bless them all and help them all through it). It certainly brought back reality for that bit of time.
Well the family went back up to their room and went swimming a bit longer and tried to think happy thoughts then went back upstairs to wash and rest.
