Day 2 (part 3) - Friday, November 12, 2004:
CAST OF CHARACTERS:
MOM - 57 year old somewhat disney nut.
ME - 34 year old DISNEY NUT who has had to wait one full year for her Disney fix.
SIDENOTE: for some strange reason this trip, kids and their parents stuck out a bit more than normal than any other trip enjoyed in the past. Examples will eventually be provided but it made me wonder what type of parent I would be.
Okay back to Coronado Springs. When I was sliding down the poolslide, their were parents of young twin boys who were trying to talk these kids into going down the slide. Needless to say, the kids weren't falling for the fun but the parents tried endlessly to get them to go and then finally gave up (the rest of us had to continue climbing the stairway past them to get to the top of the slide). My parents were the type who would throw you in the pool, they didn't reason with children, they would just throw you in and should you begin to drown (even with a lifevest on) someone would jump in and save your but. There was no reasoning but apparently now there is everywhere. This is a theme we experienced throughout the trip.
Next little item at the pool. When I went to leave the area and begin the walk back to my room, I witnesses two paents fighting with their maybe 6 year old boy. He decided to throw a tantrum and ran away from them. They headed toward the pool instead of going after their kid. I finished drying myself off, put my shoes on and began leaving the pool area. There is a small walkway to the pool area and the little boy was sitting on the steps crying and hyperventilating. As I approached him (at least 3 to 5 minutes after witnessing the incident with his parents) I asked him if he was alright (he was hyperventilating to the point where his face was bright red). He shook his head as yes. I sat on the step a bit away from him and told him that he needed to catch his breath because he was making himself sick and that he needed to go back to his parents. He stated that he was mad because his mom promised him that he could go down the slide and that she would be waiting at the bottom for him and then she changed her mind because she didn't want to get wet. Long story short, no one came looking for this kid during the 10 minutes that I was there talking to him (and I know from where we were sitting that they couldn't watch him from that vantage point). He had calmed down and I told him that he needed to go back and find his parents and talk to them which he headed in that direction. I don't know the kid or the parents or the circumstances but it seemed cruel to promise a kid that, bring him to the pool with the big slide and then tell him you don't want to get wet. What fun I'm having leaving the pool area.
Went back to the room without incident. Mom was there and asked if I was about to bath (of course I am, do you think I really want to look and smell this way for the rest of the night???). Yes, why do you ask? Well mom needs to go dig in her luggage in the car and wants to know what we'll be doing the rest of the night (even though I've already told her what I would like to do at least 3 times but I'll state it again). Anyway, I bath and wash hair and mom still isn't back in the room yet. Another 20 minutes go by and she still isn't back. I then realize that my mother is lost. Sidenote: I have my dad's instincts, he isn't directionally challenged, my mother is completely directionally challenged. I stop blow drying my hair, get dressed and am about to begin a party search when my mother finally found her way back to the room. Amazingly, she was only lost for 45 minutes. She went to the wrong parking lot and forgot the room number to boot. I warned her to take the resort map before she left but as usual I'm her child so she tunes me out and I end up having to repeat myself at least 3 times over. She then mentioned that another couple out in the parking lot were lost as well, yes the blind leading the blind.
Finally, we are ready to leave. We decide to drive over to PORS to watch Bob Jackson's show (we briefly saw him back in 12/02 but resort was too crowded to stay). As it wasn't time for his show to start, we decided to walk the resort (it's been a decade since mom stayed here last). We decided to take the boatride to DTD which of course was pleasant. Sidenote: last year the last boat returned to PORS from DTD at 9:15, this night they were running the boats until 11:00 p.m. When we arrived at DTD there were a large crowd of people waiting to take the boat back to PORS/FQ and OKW. We decided to do a bit of shopping. We walked around for about an hour and then checked back on the line waiting to go back to PORS (yep still a long wait). So we took the bus back to PO. We got back there at about 9:45 and Bob's first show was just ending and the lounge was empting out. We were hungry and decided to order a couple of pina coloda's, shrimp cocktail and beef nachos (about $23 or $25 total). Thanks to the CM for getting in our order at 9:59 when the kitchen closes at 10:00.
Bob's next show began a little after 10 with about half the crowd that was there before. We were having a great time. First time that I've ever heard of a song called Sara, sitting and shifting and vice versa. It has a lot of different verses and when people are tired and have a few drinks the song comes out differently. We couldn't stop laughing. It was a blast. We stayed until about 11:30 and as usual all good things must come to an end. Back to the room to sleep and dream about tomorrow.
