Year's Supply of Diapers?

If you have coupons now and the store you shop at regularly has them on sale, go for it. Just tape your receipt to the box. You can always exchange later on. I did the same thing with both kids. Both of mine did best in Pampers or Luvs. DS #2 was OK in huggies as an infant but not once he was rolling around (he viewed rolling as a "mode of transportation").

I had to laugh at this thread.

Earlier this year I had 2 boys, ages 2 & 3, in the same size diapers. Target put the large boxes of them on clearance when the style changed. I bought 400 diapers.

Within 2 weeks My oldest finally was completely potty trained...and then, out of nowhere my 2 year old also decided to only use the potty. No more diapers, and I had well over 300 left.

I just gave them to a social worker I know to bring to the women's shelter. I guess the investment was worth finally being done with diapers. Whoo Hooo!

My son could only wear Huggies for Boys.....I don't even think they sell them this way anymore.......He would soak ever other kind of diaper there was till he was about 6 months old....

I didn't recall seeing this anywhere, you can join pampers mailing list from their site www.pampers.com. I would assume that huggies, and luvs might have something similar to this. I know that I use a lot of coupons, wipe and diapers coupons add up.

This isn't about diapers, but I know that we always tried to buy ahead on clothes also, and right now alot of places have great buys on winter clothes, you might be able to get some outfits really cheap. Sears also has a kidadvantage club. These things help me so I thougt I would pass it along.

I would suggest maybe getting a sams or costco membership. They have pampers and huggies and wipes. The costco brand of wipes were my favorite wipes and I was a wipe snob before I tried them. They are soft and come in easy soft pouches with a plastic top tab so you can open and close easily. You get 100's of wipes for $11 or $12. The boxes of diapers are about $30 and amount varies by size. Costco would sometimes mail coupons good for a certain week and would have coupons for diapers or wipes.

Now that's a lesson new moms learn fast: store brand diapers may be good quality, but off-brand wipes are too thin to be good for anything! Stick to Pampers or Huggies wipes. No substitutions! If you already have some store-brand wipes, they're okay for the first few weeks when the poops are literally a teaspoon-ful, or put them in the kitchen for wiping fingers and faces after meals. But forget those skimpy little thin wipes for cleaning a real diaper mess!

I've used all kinds of wipes without a problem. In fact, Costco's brand wipes are my favorite, although I also liked Sam's and BJ's brand too. None of those are at all skimpy. I'm sure there are some skimpy generics out there, but I've been lucky enough not to run across them.

My kids, on the other hand, were still wearing size 1s when they were six months old. If the diapers are already in the house, I wouldn't exchange them; neither would I buy more of that size. If you exchange them now, you're just exchanging one guess for another. Wait until you see "what kind of baby" you have, then exchange for what you know will work.

Wow, I've never known anyone who's kids were in size 1 that long. You must have had petite babies! I only suggested exchanging/returning them because alot of stores are so strict about their return policy.

:cool1: :thumbsup2 I was working at Toys R Us before dd12 was born, I bought up all the damaged diaper packs, if they had been ripped open and 1 diaper was missing or a new brand that didnt' last to long....we also stocked up at Sam's club for wipes and diapers, we used that brand and huggies.........I have a picture of her closet and it's packed full of diapers, wipes and dresses............ :woohoo: :woohoo: it was so nice just to go to the closet and get a new pack, your on the right track. congrats!!!

Either buy giftcards or start a separate stash of the money. It's not a good thing to buy too many in advance. You never know what you will need. And you may get a lot for shower gifts....

I would definately go with the suggestion of buying gift cards instead. Several things can throw you off if you are buying a certain brand of diapers.

My son is allergic to several brands, so we had to experiement with several different types before we found something that not only worked for him, but didn't make him break out. Then once we found something that worked, if the manufacturer changes something it can force us to start the whole procedure over again.

Babies usually stay in stage 3's for a very long time.

Stage 1 -- I say you're good with the amount you have.

Newborn - depdning on the size of your baby. My first was 9 lbs 13 oz, 23 inches long and he was too big for newborn!!!

Stage 2 -- about 250 again.

Stage 3 -- months and months and months long.

I bought all but 6 packages of diapers for my son for his entire diaper wearing years before he was ever born! I guess you could say I guess pretty good, when I ran out of the 3's that is when I bought 6 more packs before I used the 4's. I do have one set of 5's left that I never opened it. I only got it because they changed the amount of diapers in the packages as I was prebuying and wanted more. I easily could have used them one time instead of 4's just didn't think potty training would go so quick!

Anyways, I had one package of newborn (could have used another), then I had 4-6 packages of size 1 (qty of 54ish, can't remember exact 3's, the size priced around $9-$10 not on sale), size 2's 6 pks, size 3's I had a ton, probably atleast 10-20, then size 4's had about 10 or so. I bought whatever was on sale or I had a coupon for. I never once had a problem with one leaking or a rash or anything of the sort. I did think some felt more cardboardy then the others but my son didn't seem to mind at all. I am all for you buying while on sale! I loved never having to go and buy diapers! Bought wipes ahead of time too! And formula, he breastfed for a while, then on to formula, when that ran out then it was milk. Oh, and I only bought the free formula with coupons, honestly the brand did not matter with that either. I just did all of one, then another.

We didn't spend an extra dime for the longest time once son came along. Oh, and made all his baby food, SO CHEAP and so much better for him. The first ingredient in most baby food is water! that just blows my mind!

I found at the particular time I was purchasing diapers that with coupons and shopping at walmart I could never get the price to be cheaper at sams, costco or bjs (they take coupons). So just make sure you really do the math. This was about 3 years ago.

Thanks for all the advice. I just wanted to mention that I'm reading everything and taking note ;)

Target brand is particularly thin. Wipes, that is. Their diapers weren't as good as other store brands, but they were acceptable.

If you do stock up make sure you save your receipts. Toys R Us wil not take any diaper returns without one.

I stocked up and spend over $100 after my son was born. I got all different sizes. My son is now 6 months old and wears a size 4. The same size as my 18mo :confused3

He skipped size 3 and I had to return everything I bought.

Right now TRU is having a sale and you can buy 2 cases for 29.99. I got 232 size 4's for that price.

For whipes I only buy Costco ones.

we3disneygo,

My moms works for TRU and make out good. I have 4 cases of size 5 pampers I paid $6 a case for. I also had about 15 Jumbo bags of Huggiies that I paid between $1 and $3 for.

These had all been discountinued or the changes packaging.

I am confused by the idea that baby's skip a size. If size 3 is 16-28 lbs, how does a baby skip that size?

If you're interested in saving money, you might want to think about using cloth diapers instead. You can buy either plain square or rectangular ones (or make your own) or buy the shaped and fitted ones that have elastic at the legs. Both have their own advantages. The plain rectangles can be folded in different ways for babies of different shapes and sizes, and dry much faster when washed. They also make great cleaning rags when the baby is no longer needing diapers.

The fitted diapers come in several different sizes, more like disposables, so you will need to buy new ones as your baby grows. They also take longer to dry when you wash them because of the thicker layers. But they are less likely to leak at the leg openings thanks to the elastic.

I also never bought the disposable wipes - I just picked up a package or two of inexpensive facecloths. I'd dampen them with a little water before wiping baby clean, and then toss them in the diaper pail with the diapers to wash later. If I was going out, I'd dampen several cloths and put them in a zip-lock bag, then add another zip-lock bag for transporting any used cloths back.
