year usage

haven't been looking at dvc points use and forgot how they actually work. If i am planning a trip summer of 2022, and my use year is december, what years will be available to me to use? 2021, 2022 and 2023? or no because I haven't received my 2022 years points till december and it is only july 2022 yet. It seems confusing and hope you guys are able to clarify this up for me.
i am thinking i can bank 2021 into 2022 and use 2023? but i haven't gotten those points technically, right?
