Tomorrow is our first wedding anniversary :bride: and DH and I have been saving our wedding cake (okay the piece that the bakery saved for us) in the back of the freezer for a year now. How am I supposed to defrost the cake? I'm thinking its probably not going to taste great but I still want to try it, just for traditions sake.

Did you actually eat your year old wedding cake? Any advise on how to defrost it?

WE did. I just sat it out on the counter. It was horrible. :rotfl:

Just set it on the counter - but keep it covered. Probably won't be the best but it's fun to try.:) Congrats on your 1st anniversary.

Just pull it out today, it will be thawed by tomorrow. I thought mine would be horrible but it was really good.

Left over wedding cake is like left over graduation cake. Eat it straight from the freezer.

Our cake was fine it was the frosting that was yucky.

I agree with the PP, the frosting is gross.

I frosted mine out over a couple of days. I put it in a cake cover thing (with room to breathe), took it out of the foil and stuff it was packed in the freezer with, and let it defrost in the cake tray, in the refrigerator (like i said, over a few days). It was really not that good....lol. DH wouldnt even take a bite- haha.

Ours was disgusting. :scared1: Hope yours is better - or at least gives you fun memories!

We sat ours out on the counter to thaw out a little bit. Took one bite and threw it in the trash. It was nasty! Where did that tradition come from anyway???

after one year we took our wedding cake out of the freezer, each took a bite - ewww! nasty stuff!

We tried ours. Vacuum sealed it. Took up a ton of room in our freezer for a year. It tasted like crap. Huge waste of time.

Maybe next year for our tenth anniversary we'll just punch each other in the arm. It will be more enjoyable tradition to start.

I thawed mine in the refrigerator the day before. Set it out on the counter when we got ready to go out for dinner. Mine was a great pound cake so it stood up well to the freezing. My mom wrapped mine--I think it was hermetically sealed.:lmao: That may have let it stay fresh. We had a Precious Moments bride/groom topper. My mom gave us the 1 year anniversary figure. I set that on top of the cake and took pictures. Whether the cake is tasty or not, you can at least take a bite.

And Happy Anniversary!

Just pull it out today, it will be thawed by tomorrow. I thought mine would be horrible but it was really good.

Mine was ok too. Frosting was fine. I defrosted mine over a fewdays in the fridge. Maybe it all depends on the type of cake. Ours was pound cakey and held up well.

My 10th wedding anniversary was this past February and my top layer is still in my grandparents big freezer. It still looks pretty but I can only imagine what it will be like when we finally do try to eat it. Scary:scared1:

our 1st anniversary isn't until April. DH has been trying to get me to throw out the cake in our freezer since we got back from our honeymoon! I am starting to think he's right, especially after reading everyone else's experiences, LOL. I can only imagine that it's going to smell and taste like freezer, eew.
Plus we'll be away on our 1 yr anniversary, so isn't it a moot point?

Our oldest daughter got married 6 years ago and we froze the top layer according the "cake lady" directions. She told us to first put it in the freezer and freeze solid (about 2 days). Then we wrapped the entire cake in Saran Wrap, then in aluminum foil and then put into 2 plastic bags.

When getting it out (1 year later) we unwrapped the cake and thawed it on the counter - it tasted great! You were supposed to unwrap it so that it is able to thaw without ruining the frosting!

We ate ours and it was still Yummy! I had wrapped it very well, 4 layers of wrap and jsut sat it in the refrig over night.

Enjoy!

My MIL had super wrapped up and sealled ours. We thawed it in the fridge for a couple days. It tasted just as good as the day we bought it!! Yummo!:thumbsup2
