Year of a Million letdowns?

Being at Disney and seeing my DS4 meet his fave characters is magic enough for me. We are going mid October and while it would be great to win a DVC membership or a Golden Fastpass I am just happy that I am getting a vacation with my family.
I agree with this, I Just hope it doesn't generate more late Oct. crowds for us.

I think its just a different type of promotion and I am going to take a wait and see attitude. I have read the information and a few things are still a bit vague to me. Sure we are going to Disney because we love it, we didn't know about the promotion so it is already a bonus for us to have a chance to win. For those who book the trip to have a chance to win they may feel differently.

Since we are in the parks during the promotion and I imagine there will be many promo's and commercials therefore it will likely be on our minds more than it would otherwise be. I can see that my kids especially will be hoping to win. During other promotions everyone was involved or could be, EMH's, special shows etc this seems different.

I have read the rules a couple times and still don't have it completely worked out. I know I am a geek but this stuff interests me:) It does seem that they will select the "prize batch" based the entry location. So if the "prize batch" is MK specific then they will choose an entry location of the MK, likewise AK etc. If the selection criteria is mail in then it looks like it will be a prize that does not depend on being in a park or at WDW that day. It also says that the potential winner will be screened to see if they are eligible and then able to redeem so maybe people are going to be chosen, screened and then awarded prizes.

This will be interesting, say a couple arrives at said location at said time and the prize is a trip, first screening could be country of residence (eligibilty) and second is can you travel at xxx time (acceptance), if so you win if not on to the next family?? OTOH, lets say four families arrive at said location at said time, all four are screened, eligibility then acceptance, ok we are all excited it is DVC, is it a cruise, yippe its the golden fastpass.

While personally I don't feel this way but you can't help but wonder during the screening what the prize is, is it a the after hours party, DVC, a cruise or the golden fastpass??

For the typical diser - probably not a big deal but for the family of 4 who took this vacation based on the promotions it may well be.

FWIW - we start or vaca on the 29th but had planned on the MK for the 1st. If I decide to bring my laptop I will definatly report in, its 50/50 on the laptop right now but that's another post:)

Don't get me wrong, I would be ecstatic to win something. But I would also be so thrilled to see someone else win and be there to watch their reaction. pixiedust:

I think it is wonderful, can't wait for someone to win something. I will be thrilled for them and could care less if I don't win anything. Let the contest being. :cool1:

If they're going to choose people out of the crowds, no way they'll ever pick me out since I am single. They are far more likely to choose a couple or a family. And, a pretty good case can be made that a couple or a family deserves a "wish" far more than I do.

I won't expect it.

And if you are taking the vacation because you are looking to win something, you're not going to have a very good vacation. It's supposed to happen when you DON'T expect it.

And there isn't anything wrong with Disney shelling out money for promotions. They aren't doing this to be nice. They want bodies in the parks spending cash.

We do not have children, and I think it puts us at a disadvantage.
I'm just gonna enjoy my vacation, and if it happens I'll be happily surprised.

DH and I are missing YOAMD by two days! We leave WDW on 9/28. I would expect many of the prizes will go to kids or families with kids...but you never know! :wizard:

I have not read everything and do not know all the info can someone fill me in? do you have a chance to win only by sending a post card or if your just in the park not expecting it like in line for a ride or something can you win even thou you didnt send anything in? help a confused woman out

I booked my trip at DLR before I even knew about the promotion. Me and my boyfriend are going in October because we wanted to go on a trip for our 1-yr anniversary  , he picked LA, but since it's not THAT far from Disney (at least in my eyes) I suggested we hit up both (and since I booked the trip, we are staying near Disney)...

IF we win a prize it will be just be a bonus, I am happy enough just going on a trip with him. I would honestly be so excited for a person that won that was standing next to me!...but that's just me... :teeth:

i don't really "Expect" to win anything when i go on my next vacation. i'm just going to have a good time, like i always do. if i do happen to "win" anything, that's just an added bonus!

i already love going to Disney as it is. i won't be disappointed at any point in time while i'm there.

We're planning on coming early, doing the rope drop and looking as cute a family as possible, with Disney ears, and I'm thinking of making custome T-shirts that match and say something like "Make my Disney Wish come true! :cheer2: :cheer2: " What do you think? Maybe ALIEN GREEN T-shirts? :disrocks:

From your comment, I am sorta worried about the promotion now. Sounds like you are expecting something from dressing and being "cute."

And can someone tell me what "looking as cute a family as possible" has to do with winning anything? :confused3 Are the winners picked by cute handmade t-shirts or cute disney outfits or what?

Oh, and if someone can be so kind as to send me a link with all the details (haven't read all the tiny little details yet) about this new promotion, I'd really appreciate it.

FLAME SUIT ON!

I have never been more disappointed in people than after reading this thread.

Who says anyone one of us "deserves" a wish. It is done at random, no matter how you compute it. Everyone complaining about not getting something since you booked to visit during that timeframe but didn't even know it, is one very selfish person.

DISNEY is doing this as a promotion to get people to come to Disney and possibly winning something.

Everyone is so focused on not telling their children because they don't want them to be disappointed if they don't win. Well you don't always win in life either. So I think that it would be a good lesson and might teach children a thing or two. Not keep them in the dark. Not everyone can win.

You can't keep them sheltered from everything.

I am sitting here writing this getting very upset with people, now if you don't win and you see someone else win, you wouldn't be happy for that person!!!! That is just terrible. What happened to people?

Walt would be turning in his grave to hear people talk like this. When I travel to Disney on Dec. 01-04 for the christmas festivities (not the promo) if I happen to see someone win, I will run the other way because I don't want to see all of you with scowls on your faces because "It wasn't me and my family".

Shame on those!

FLAME SUIT OFF.

Have a nice weekend to all.

May the person standing next to you win the grand prize! Let us know how happy you are for them!

If you read the rules you will see you have as good a chance to win as anyone else.

my DD high school band there next year in April...and if anyone on their team wins I will be elated beyond belief

IMO just a wonderful perk for being in the world

I can guarantee you if someone next to me wins a major prize I would be thrilled.

I agree this thread is a pretty sad. Maybe all the poor losers need to just stay home this year, I would hate to see all this whining; that way Disney will get the message.

I think before everyone complains about it not being fair, or trying to sway the chances of winning, you should read the rules. Anything else is kinda foolish.

"How to win the DVC Membership"

"How to be one of the lucky 800 people that day to win a pin and lanyard"

Just Kidding people, lighten up!!! You act like questioning Disney motives is stomping on Walt's grave. If you don't challenge Disney to keep reaching for Walt's dream, the next thing you know a guy like Michael Eisner will be running Disney again.

Now back to regular scheduled programing....

I CAN'T WAIT TO GO DROP MY 5 GRAND AT DISNEY IN DECEMBER (Seriously)!!!!! - Can I be back in the "A" crowd now?

If your down there 12/1-12/10, I'll be the one wearing "Can I Sleep at Cindy's Tonight?" t-shirt. I'll let you know how it goes....wait, darn that doesn't start until January.

;)

They are not choosing people but locations and times so you have as good a chance as anyone else.

I can see your point. Truly, I understand where you are coming from. Maybe what you are saying is if some visit Disney hoping to win and they don't, they are let down.

Me, and I believe many others, go to Disney for that "Disney magic" that always exists. Just being in Disney is beautiful....sure, I would love to spend the night in the castle, or stay in MK after the park closes to everybody else, but I am thankful just being there.

Hi,
I had heard that they are going to extend this YOAMD promotion until the end of December 2007. Granted I read it on another message board. Anyone know if this true?

Yes, the rules say the promo will run until Dec. 2007.

I understand that some of the trips (cruises, excursions, etc.) have limited dates. If your family can't be away for 15 days or can't go on a cruise on the dates the boat sails then you are out of luck. And I agree that it is standard "contest" legal mumbo jumbo. But it is sad that a family who doesn't have much flexibility as far as travel dates would have to give up a prize and have NOTHING. That is where this contest is a bit different - some contests offer a prize (a car, a trip, whatever) OR cash that is approximately the same amount as the value of the prize.

We could swing an unplanned 4 day trip to a US Disney park pretty easily, but a 15 day trip to multiple countries would be impossible. I hope the people who win the big prizes with tricky logistics are actually able to use the prize. Imagine how disappointed you would be to have a big prize slip through your fingers just because the dates weren't workable!

I was talking to DH about this, and he agrees that seeing other people win is not as much fun as winning yourself, no matter what spin you put on it. ;)
