We are currently booked at POR. We have stayed there before and liked it so selected it again. We generally stay in mods due to price.

However, with discounts, the cost at WL is definitely in our budget and if we stretch, YC could be as well. We have stayed at WL years ago and loved it. It's beautiful, love how close it is to MK.

We have never stayed at YC but the pool looks so neat. We have never stayed anywhere on the boardwalk as a family (I stayed at Swan a number of times when I was working).

So I'd love some opinions! I am fairly certain we think the upgrade from POR to WL (given the price) is worth it for our family. What about WL vs YC? They both seem like such neat places to stay. Any opinions??

We chose to do a split stay last year after many debates between DH and myself. I won!!! And we would do it again in a heartbeat!
POR is our all-time favorite resort but wanted to try something new so off to BC for a few days. Our itenary was scheduled for a lot of busyness the first 6 days with a lot of down time the last 4 days. I am so glad we did that! Checking into the POR was a nightmare with the fridge issues last year and garden grocer on their way with a delivery. My wee one needed her milk kept cold and a morning/evening walk to bell hop wasn't my idea of vacation. After 2 days of talks with management, lack of housekeeping(at all), KTW cards stopped working, musty room and lack of southern hospitality(as we were accustomed to on previous trips) the vacation took a turn for the better and we focused on all of our fun ADR's and hopping parks to parks. Our final night at POR we ventured over to Boma at AKL and enjoyed a CM farewell to a cook. This was a nice treat as they danced and played instruments like we have never witnessed before!
The next morning all packed up and a quick call to bell hop to take care of our bags to BC for us and we were off to parks. I did online check-in and was told a quick text would inform us when the room was ready. We headed there early and grabbed our swimsuits out of our backpack which we toted with us and enjoyed SAB as we waited. My family-DH, DD 14, DD 11, DS 4, DD 1 & myself felt truly on vacation at this resort! The scents piped into the lobby-WOW!! The cleanliness and upkeep of a deluxe is always a step above the mod but this was amazing. Our balcony overlooked the quiet pool and marina which was nice in the AM with coffee and a peaceful awakening. The pool...sand bottom, fun slide, kiddie area that wasn't populated at all, tucked away private hot tub, and the sand pails with lunch for kiddie meals. FUN http://www.wdwinfo.com/images/smilies/beach.gif:beach:
At night we enjoyed a dessert to go at Beaches and Cream after a stroll back from Epcot(our favorite park) and sat on the beach to watch boats come in or the fireworks from Illuminations.
My kiddos are begging that this year's vacation will be there too....who knowshttp://www.wdwinfo.com/images/smilies/rolleye11.gif

We haven't stayed at the YC, but we have stayed at the BC and WL and my choice would be the WL. We enjoyed our BC stay and I'm glad we tried it, but we like the MK area and while SAB was nice, we weren't wow'd by it (we actually prefer the WL pool, as well as others, to SAB). We also think the CS options at the BC/YC are too limited (for us). With that said, the YC is a beautiful resort and if you will be spending a lot of time at Epcot and/or DHS, the YC would be more convenient. Good luck.

I did like the proximity of WL to MK via the boat but disagree on the pool. We stated there on our honeymoon and the wilderness feel was kind of rustic and what we are accustomed to camping. This was nice and not a bad thing. The BC/YC resorts felt like a seaside retreat. Find out what feel you would like to call it vacation? Will you have down time to really enjoy the resort or just a few moments here and there? Do you wish to be closer to one park over the other? Those were our main questions.

I stayed at WL and BWI on my honeymoon last summer.

The WL was absolutely stunning, but I feel that the BWI's location on crescent lake was untouchable. Therefore I would suggest YC (I had a look around there when I was over at Beaches & Cream and it was a beautiful resort also) simply because it's a fantastic location, with so much to do within walking distance.

I also prefer the dining options in the Epcot and DHS area to those in the Magic Kingdom area, so this also has to be taken into consideration. But I still think the location is just too good to turn down at YC.

Thank you all for your comments! I'm wondering which resort would require the least amount of walking. My hubby has arthritis in his knees so we try to limit walking to save his knees for the parks!

Do people actually walk from YC to DHS in the heat of the summer? Is it a super long walk from YC to future world? I'm wondering if the convenience would be outweighed by us not wanting to walk that far to get to the park.

We did not walk from BC to DHS but did to Epcot. The stroll to Epcot was fine. My DH has same issue. POR is a large resort which WIL and YC are all indoors and much smaller.

I would give a new resort a try and stay at the YC. Stormalong Bay is a great pool. The location is awesome between 2 theme parks with boats and access to all the other resorts in the Epcot area. The rooms are a little bigger than the WL rooms as well.

Also, with the YC the boat dock is directly out back so if there are mobility issues I would choose to ride the boat to Epcot and to DHS. Many people do walk to both, but DHS is a long walk in the heat of summer and, although Epcot is close, you will walk lots from the International gateway onwards. Why not pamper your tootsies until you get there with a nice ride?

Enjoy your trip either way. WL and the YC are both great choices!

We've stayed at POR, WL and BC (close enough to YC :)
My personal recommendation would be WL. We were booked for a week this summer at POR over the 4th, but as soon as the discounts became available, I moved us to Courtyard View at WL for the same price as what my non-discounted POR Garden room was costing me.

For the least amount of walking you'll want WL. YC/BC rooms can be a very far and circuitous route from the lobby. The "food court" is non-existent there, and we found the offerings at the small shop to be tasty, but much more limited than at WL. I love POR, but when I can stay at WL for the same price, and then throw in a better view, there is no comparison.

The walk from YC to Future World is quite long. Even from the BC end it is a decent walk just to the International Gateway, and then you still have to get through Britain, Canada, and the rest of that end of WS to reach Future World. While it certainly is enjoyable, it is not what I would call short.

It is a pretty long walk from YC to DHS, and would be a tough one in the heat of the summer. The busing situation at YC/BC was rather annoying when we stayed there. There were stops at Swan/Dolphin, Boardwalk, and then of course each side of YC/BC. It was comparable to staying at a moderate in that regard. While Stormalong Bay is great, we personally love staying on Bay Lake. We've always enjoyed the pool at WL and never found it to be too crowded. We like the boat option to MK and even the option to take a boat to Contemporary and then monorail it over to Epcot. Obviously I'm a little biased to WL but we've stayed at every Deluxe area and truly WL is our favorite.

We will be staying at the WL for the first time in April, so I can’t comment on that yet (although it is a gorgeous resort).

YC is one of our favorites! It’s much quieter than its sister resort, the Beach Club, but you do get to share Stormalong Bay which is great. We love the YC due to its proximity to Epcot and DHS ( you can either take the friendship boats or walk to either park). If you’re going to be spending a lot of time at either one of those parks, I’d highly recommend the YC.

Enjoy your trip!
