Okay, I havent seen anything about when the renovations at the YC are going to be done...or there progress this far.

We are going over christmas for a couple of nights and just want to make sure it will be a "silent night" ;)

Anybody know when they are going to finish this???
What floors are done???

--->Should I go somewhere else?

Thanks!
Edward

Hi Edward,

I was just there last week and it appeared that all of the rooms on the first floor were being closed off and worked on. From what I heard, the 5th floor Concierge was done as was the third floor where I was staying.

I don't know about the second floor, but I do know for certain that the 4th floor was not renovated yet because I was almost assigned to one of those rooms. I asked if I could have a room that was less "smoky" smelling and they moved me to the 3rd floor.

Part of the building occupied by Hurricane Hannah's is also being worked on as well as part of the building structure surrounding Stormalong Bay. However, none of this work seemed to bother anyone, the pool was just as busy and I'm a light sleeper and did not hear too much construction noise in my room.

I wouldn't worry about it, have a great trip! Let me know if you have any other questions!

I was on the 5th floor last week and there was a block of about ten rooms that were still being finished. Our room was far away, so we heard nothing, and the workers were very polite and careful to try and keep out of our way as we passed them during the day. The renovated rooms are gorgeous!

okay, i have a water view room booked.
what requests should i put in?

I want to be non smoking
I want the daybed (do they still have this in all the rooms?)
I dont want to look at any trees ;)

Do they still have mini bars?

In another words...what would you want!? :p

Thanks!

Hi Edward,

Not all of the rooms have the daybed, so if this is your preference, make sure to let them know!

Non-smoking is pretty easy to accomodate but when I book the water-view room category, I make sure to specify "Lakeside view" versus plain old h2o view which sometimes gets you a partial glimpse of the quiet pool around the back side of the hotel.

Most of the trees on the waterview side only go to the 2nd or 3rd floor height, so you might be safe by asking for a 4th floor room if this is your highest priority.

Keep in mind that the more preferences you have, the harder it might be to accomodate your wishes. Generally, I find that they do the best they can with what they have to work with, but there are limits at certain times of the month.

Another fun thing to do is to just take the "zen style" approach and let whatever happens happen! When it's vacation, I try to de-stress and just relax and enjoy.

Hope this helps!

Does anyone know if the newly renovated YC rooms have this new AC sensor that regulates room temp. that I keep reading about?

I just returned from YC concierge. The air conditioner controls were still manual. I was in room 5223 which had a view of SAB and the Boardwalk. The new rooms are very nice and the staff were great. They were still working on some of the 5th floor rooms. I could see the painters and wallpaper persons still working and we could smell fresh paint on the way to our room.

The renovated rooms on the 3rd floor also still have the manual AC Control. I was in AKL Concierge on this same trip and experienced the automatic thermostat for the first time, it's a little different.

What is different in the renovated YC rooms are the elimination of the 2nd phone in the bathroom as well as the TV speaker over the sink area. In it's place they built an additional tile shelf above the faucet area in the same material as the sink counters which runs the entire length of the counter. Additionally, they've added an additional 9 inch deep shelf area just below the sink counters for you to store toiletries or any other necessary bathroom items you may have brought with you and it also runs the entire length of the counter.

I didn't need to use this new feature as there were only two of us in the room, however, I can see where this space would be extremely useful or handy if there were 4-5 people occupying the room. The new "tall" dresser only has 4 drawers instead of the old one with 5 but the drawers were still deep and very practical.

As a point of comparison, this was the first time I stayed at the AKL and I discovered that their bathroom sink area already had the additional shelving feature above and below the sinks. they also still had the second phone extension in the bathroom...never used it though, but it was there.

In addition, the in-room safe located in the closet at AKL was twice as large as those found in the YC/BC.

I believe someone reported these changes in an earlier thread maybe about a month ago, so I apologize in advance if this information is rendundant to anyone. It's just that it's easier to write about the changes now that I have experienced the changes first hand.

And shame on the guest who told me that the 5th floor was pretty much done already, I guess I assumed a bit too much.

Oh well, have a great time!

Wendell
