Yay! I have awesome news!

I don't know if you guys remember, but I'm now attending the count Career and Technical Vocational Institute our high school works with. (We just call it vo-tech). I'm going for Health Occupations, a program for 2 years. By the time I graduate high school, I'll also be certified to be a nurse's assistant. (CNA)

When we met with the teachers, the teachers pretty much tried to discourage me from doing this program because 1) I have my knee replaced. 2) I have a slight suppressed immune system.

Fast forward to today. In the 4 days we've been attending school, the teachers have totally turned around and did a 180. Due to state guidlines changing, we had to switch my schedule around. My main teacher, the one who tried to discourage me, says she's willing to work with me in any way possible. She told this to my, my guidance counselor, and my mom while we were discussing schedule changes. She sees how bad I want to do this, and that nothing is going to stop me from trying. She said she realizes now that she had the wrong impression of me, and that she knows I'm going to be able to do this and go far.

When she told me this, I think I was on cloud nine. It makes me want to work even harder now. I've been in such a good mood, haahah! So yeah, just thought I'd let you know what was going on.

That sounds really interesting! So what is a typical day like there, what kind of things do you learn?

The state guidelines now mandate you have to take introduction classes, so now I'm taking the introductory classes. I think it's just Anatomy and Physiology, and then Honors American Issues. I take PM session now, we go out to the hospitals and do clinicals and stuff. It's very cool.

You are doing just about the same thing that I am doing. I took a pre-test to see if I passed. If you pass you get an application to the Tech Center School Of Practical Nursing. They take 25 students total out of 6 different schools around. About 130 students took the test and 21 of us passed. This program is only one year, which is senior year. Like how when you graduate high school you will be a CNA, I will be a LPN. It's exciting isn't it? I have been in the program for a total of 9 days so far with 8 tests so far. We went the first day and had a 50 question anatomy test the next day.

I'm sure you will do great in the program. It's something you love and willing to work hard for it. Make sure you keep us updated on how youre doing!

Lucky! I'd rather be an LPN than a CNA anyday! I'm doing it so I can get a head start for nursing school, is that what you're doing? I want to be able to work while going to nursing school, and maybe even get an internship or something. I figure it may not mean much (I want to go for my BSN and OCN), but it's there to "protect" me. Like, I won't be starting nursing school blind-eyed.
