Yavn Speaks- 8/06

WDW VMK Closing...

The only part of this that surpises me is how long it took to close. I'm happy for the WDWers who get about 2 months warning, versus the 2 weeks DLRers got. I hope you all can get your last card sets. Good luck!

I do think this spells bad news for VMK. I think it's the second Death Knell. At best I expect VMK to become a pay-to-play site. At worst I expect it to be just shut off one day with nary a word from Yavn and crew... As was already posted, there are few-to-no links to VMK on Disney's webpages. I expect either "end" before '08.

Turkey Cart

Eh. Blech. :confused3
Looks silly, really. I agree it would be better if it was small and something you could put on a table as a "plate" of food - but I it's going to be a full sized cart. I just keep getting freaked out at the size that turkey must have been...

Aloha Shirt / Baseball

Neat!
I'd like it better if they released multiple colors. Red is not one of my favorites (would prefer same design/patter in green or blue). Also it would be neat to see a room full of Tiki themed people with a rainbow of colors.

So baseball is coming back... In September? Hmm... Uh, ok. Does that mean the chearleader outfit will return for the girls (I never understood what cheerleaders had to do with baseball, but that's what the girls could buy in place of the blue baseball suit)? Or will they make the blue baseball costume omni-gendered? Or perhaps they'll sell the already omni-gendered red costume? Hmm... Or maybe we'll get a different color. I doubt it, but that'd be nice.

Trading Card Game

Well, the picture looks pretty (thanks to Bug for posting the large picture, I couldn't get it to come up on VMK)... until I play, I'll withhold judgement... It could be interesting... but I won't get my hopes up. :upsidedow

Speaking of cards though... I agree with what others have said. I've always been of the mind that VMK should sell packs of cards. I think a 100 card set, all with codes. 15 Rare items, never released before new things exclusive to this set (The alternate Sparrow Costume, Green Inferno, Magic Carpet, Fab Five Costumes, Glass Slippers, Knight Armor, etc.). 25 Uncommons items, new items and maybe some re-release of old rare items from in-park quests and/or in-game stuff (Mansion Clocks, Mighty Eye pins, Princess Hat, Baige Explorer costume, etc.). 60 Common items. These would be a mix of new items and re-releases of cheaper things (Halloween costumes, Pink Heartless Hampers, Cactus Chairs, Orange "Santa" Halloween hats, etc.). Of course, all virtual items would be in-game tradable. Each pack of 10-12 cards should sell for $3-$5. One card in each pack is a random "rare" card. Two cards per pack should be random "uncommons". These packs would be for sale at all the parks, Disney stores, on-line, etc. I'd totally buy a case.

Ahhhh... A boy can dream...

What I think about the turkey leg cart is.. Gross. Have you ever had a turkey leg? first it's delicious and then after about five minutes and noticing you still have a whole other side to rip off of the bone you kinda think.. oh.
Didn't yavn say something about flying carpet magic and then CHANGED the subject over to the stupid turkey leg? all yavn cares about is that stupid cart (he's keep on talking about it) and isn't paying attention to the more awesome things (like flying carpet magic). is anybody with me on this?

I really like your trading card suggestion.

But, at this point, I will not be spending anymore money on anything VMK, because I truly see this going by the wayside within a year.

I can see them making it pay to play though, because it would cut down on mules for both scamming purposes as well as mules for collecting items.
Of course, I would be leery about paying some $10 a month and then having the plug pulled. JMO! :hippie:

I like your card idea Goofy, very cool. As for girls cheerleader .. it is still available .. so I hope girls get baseball outfit too. :)

I will not pay to play VMK. I can't pay to play VMK. I can't afford it. There are other things I have to pay for before buying game time. Unless it was really, really cheap.
Plus, I would lose my enjoyment in playing since I'll feel like I have to play so my money doesn't go to waste. As it is now, I can stop when I get bored and come back whenever I want.

I also think that VMK central in WDW closing is a bad omen. Not surprising though after DLR closing. I just wish I had thought sooner and I could have sent 7 quests sets with my best friend since she's there right now. :(

I just keep getting freaked out at the size that turkey must have been...

:rotfl: :rotfl2: :rotfl: :rotfl2:

I like the other new stuff coming out. I'm also waiting to see what baseball stuff will be out. Someone was trying to trade me a red baseball hat last night. Of course he was wanting lots for it. I said no. Who knows if it will be back out or not.:confused3

Do you play Magic: The Gathering or Yu Gi Oh or the Pokemon card game? You sure seem to understand a lot about how they market those things.

My middle boy use to play those games and I remember how excited he would be when he got a "foil" card in his pack of magic cards. But I agree with Goofybob I think Disney is missing big time on this. There is a market for it and it would give VMK exposure. With the VMK centrals gone there is not much to promote the game. Many people love collector cards. Even beanie babies had trading cards during the midst of the craze. I think it was like 1 in every million was signed by the creator of ty beanie babies. With 3 of us here that play we certainly would buy the packs. Boys have been trying to collect the cards that are out there. We also would pay to play VMK if it was a reasonable yearly fee. I would limit the boys to 1 character each if we pay to play.

Bug

Thanks bytheblood, Pooh, Mint and Bug. I've wanted this sort of thing since I first started playing VMK. I'm sure it'll never happen, but yeah it would be swell.... I do agree with you Blood, that I'd be concerned the game would go away, but I'd still buy the cards. They'll be "collectibles" on their own... And I love Disney collectibles.

Do you play Magic: The Gathering or Yu Gi Oh or the Pokemon card game? You sure seem to understand a lot about how they market those things.
Yeah Mint, I used to be a MtG player. Still have all my old cards (thousands of them, going as far back as Revised/Third Edition and Arabian Nights on up through Fifth Dawn). I totally enjoy the game, would still play if my old play groups hadn't moved away/stopped playing.... I always thought Wizards of the Coast had a great method for giving out cards with the 1 rare/2 uncommon per pack deal. Enough of a "guarantee" to get something good to make each pack worthwhile, and yet, with the randomness you still had to buy lots of packs to get a whole set (and in that game you often wanted four of each good card for a good playable deck so you REALLY had to buy a lot of cards... Oh so many Samite Healers and Disenchant cards... lol)

Great... Now I want to play MTG again... I'll have to bust out my cards and make a new deck tonight... you know, for old time's sake. :rotfl:

Edit
Oh and PS... As for the Pay to Play - I'm not sure that'd I'd bother to pay to play VMK itself. You see with buying packs of cards, at least I'm getting the cards. I don't know that I'd be down with paying to play an online game. I don't pay for any others at this time, and as much as I love the people in the game, I just don't know that the game is entertaining enough... plus there are many issues/bugs in the game ... I dunno... I might try it to see, but I dunno...

I wouldn't pay to play VMK. If they do make it a pay to play I will find a better FREE game.

The Whole Trading Card game would be AWESOME! I would love to do that. Whenever We went to disney world me and my brothers would do the quests and get cards then we'd trade because some of us did quests that the others did not do or got extras. ( But we won't be able to do that ever again... :sad1: :sad1: ) But making it a trading card game would make VMK Central going away not as bad.

The New stuff is cool but the turkey cart is kinda strange lol

is it just me or is yavn a bit over-possesed about this turkey leg cart? Did he say that HE personally created it... i forgot lol. Is it just me or is that turkey cart kinda.... spooky. Honestly if i saw that in the parks and I was hungry... I would seriously go "AH!!!!". Hmm maybe not but ya never know:)

Gaming cards - YUCK!

As a rabid card collector (I have the beanie baby cards mentioned earlier, lol) if they release cards, they should be exactly the way they are now. All gaming cards, with only 3 exceptions (Magic, Pokemon, Yu-Gi-Oh!) bomb horribly. And I mean horribly. There have been over 200 different gaming card systems release in the last 5 years alone, only the three mentioned above have done anything in the market. almost all of the others can be found for about $2 per 36 pack box. Even the 2 "collectible" gaming card systems are really, just more collectible cards (Star Trek and Star Wars) I know of ZERO people who play those games at all.

Plus: All Disney related cards and gaming card systems must go through Upper Deck per their 10 year agreement with Disney 2 years (3 years?) ago. The VMK cards can be "exceptioned" because they are promotional material, not sold card sets/systems. Upper Deck would be responsible for developing, marketting and selling any new "sold" cards.

Well I thought I would go on what little we had and try to get more out of the tiny picture than Yavn had intended and decided to share with everyone. I'd like you all to share your thoughts on the matter

TCG.jpg

First: Let's look at the cards, to the right we see some sort of stand with a green mickey head and lights, it almost looks like an item that would be used for a race, any ideas? Then to our right we see what seems like a red Stitch hat. This brings up another question, will these cards be released as things in the game? Will they be released as maybe prizes for winning? To get into more detail on the card we see at the top the title of the item and the border of the Mickey racing sign is gray while the Stitch hat has pink. Does this have to do with that the Mickey racing may be a furnishing and thats why it is gray while the stitch hat is a clothing item to make it pink? Or do they have a different category. Then we see a description at the bottom of the card and is this about the item, or an effect the card has?

Second: Both on the cards and at the bottom of the picture we see the 4 park logos. Does this mean that we will have items from all 4 parks? Will we be seeing any new virtual parks besides VMK in the future where you could perhaps win these cards. And i'll bring up again what the I button on the esplanade says.. if they said it there it can probably still happen.

Third: On the bottom we see green text saying: Choose a number on your card!, it looks like each park logo has its own number on the card. Then we also see a "?", "Menu" buttons and i can not make out the first one on the left, can anyone?

Why are people mad about having the flip hat out. thats kind of selfish that people don't want other new players to get the flip hat. its good bc now no new players will be begging for the flip hat.

i cant believe WDW vmk closed.

i'm a bit sad but i definitely saw it coming considering DLR vmk central closed down a couple months before. I definitely couldn't see vmk being around in the parks forever.. so i think after two year of in the works, i don't think vmk needs the central anymore considering the high levels of people already playing. You might disagree, but hey even though the centrals are out that doesn't mean no more vmk... heck, they're might still be other items in the parks (related to vmk) that might even be more fun then quests! Well, i don't know if this makes sense but yeah.
