Can I sell wine, in a closed bottle, at a yard sale? I live in Florida. I have a few bottles of Frank Sinatra Champagne and some vintage wine. This is my first yard sale.

Thanks! :goodvibes

After doing a quick google search, it looks like you have to have a liscense to sell wine (or any alcohol). So you could get into trouble for selling wine at a garage sale if you get caught.

It is valuable? I would not buy wine at a yard sale because I couldn't be sure it was stored properly and wasn't ruined.

If it worth something, a dealer in your area may want to buy it form you.

You need a license to sell any alcoholic beverage. There are also tax implications if you get caught..state implications.
You have a bottle of Sinatra Champagne? The bottle alone is a collector's item. That was part of a series produced by Korbel in very limited numbers. I have heard that Sinatra actually designed the bottle. You might want to check it's value.

I doubt you would have a problem. Unlikely anybody would turn you in. However, I am sure there are some serious legal issues that would block the sale of wine at a yard sale.

It would be more fun to just drink it if you wanted rid of it ;)

Realistically, neither is going to be drinkable at this point, so you would be selling a collectable item, not wine. May not be legal in your state, but if you can find a buyer, sell it in my opinion.

A quick search of Ebay finds the "Buy It now" price for an empty Frank Sinatra Champagne bottle to be $65 and a full bottle to be $99 with a disclaimer that the contents are not intended for consumption. So the value is in the bottle.

As was stated you need a license from your local ABC office to sell/resell alcoholic beverages. Drink it. Dump it or Give it away.

They have to say that. It is against Ebay policy to sell any food or drink. That said I know next to nothing about wine/champagne storage or how long it keeps.

I was not aware of that, and doing a quick search on Ebay, it certainly isn't enforced. I found soup, salami, jerky, tuna and lobster tail for sale.

If you're selling it purely as a collectors item, you're not selling it as an alcoholic beverage. So you should be able to get away with it.

There's a lot of listings of collector items that contain alcoholic contents, but are probably not consumable. So that's how they do it on ebay.

I think I may have been wrong that you can not sell any food then. I know it used to be prohibited.

But from the guidelines for alcohol.
eBay doesn't allow the sale of alcoholic beverages on its U.S. website, except for pre-approved sales of wine. You can find more information about selling wine on eBay below. We also allow the sale of some collectible containers. Members outside the U.S. aren't allowed to sell alcohol to members residing in the U.S.

Thank you all!

I have two bottles of the Frank Sinatra champagne. I will try and sell those on Ebay. The bottles are so pretty. :goodvibes

I shouldn't have said vintage, I don't think. I don't know anything about wine. The wine is Kendall-Jackson 1999 Vinters Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon. I'm going to look it up.

Again, thanks for all your help. :wave2:
