Has anyone heard about what this place is going to be liked? It's currently under construction in AK and says "Air conditioning, fine dining, and spirits".

Ok...guess I answered my own question. I found this online...it also mentions a new restaurant at DTD in 2008.

T-Rex is a unique concept that features dining and retail in an interactive prehistoric environment. The concept is built around water, fire and ice -- guests visiting T-Rex will be greeted with life size animatronic dinosaurs that live among cascading waterfalls, bubbling geysers, a fossil dig site and much more. Locations are planned domestically and internationally, the first of which is slated to open this spring in The Legends mall in Kansas City, Kansas; with another opening in Downtown Disney® (near Orlando) in early 2008.

In addition to the T-Rex concept, Landry's has acquired the majority interest in Schussler Creative's new Asian themed eatery (which is expected to open by summer 2007) inside Disney's Animal Kingdom® Theme Park. This Asian-themed restaurant with retail is reminiscent of the western Himalayan foothills in India and Nepal, featuring a rural village called Anandapur in a jungle with a tiny town-like mass at its center. Asia will offer full service table dining, as well as quick service food. This Asian-Fusion concept will feature Asian decor, complete with Asian antiques, as well as a retail component that will offer Asian goods ranging from Sushi plates to chopsticks and fine teapots.

So basically, it'll be just like Rainforest Cafe, but with an Asian tilt. :tilt:

I read where it will be Asian type food.

Which is a really ridiculous statement. Have they seen how big Asia is? Doesn't narrow it down that much. I'm hoping it will have an Asian Indian leaning, considering where it is. I'm a bit annoyed that it isn't on the DDP, it is in a park after all, especially because it's in a park that doesn't have any DDP TS'.

That description is from a press release from 2/06, so things could have changed, but it says Asian-fusion. Which means its likely to have influences from various Asian countries, and could possibly even include non-Asian influences.

Still no definite opening as off last night...I called to make my ADRs for end of Aug and the CM said they are not taking them yet and she could not offer any details at all about the food. I'm also curious about it being Asian-fusion....sounds interesting and I'm up to try it!!!! What would really be awesome is if they served Mongolian BBQ..I haven't had decent Mongolian BBQ since I left Japan 16 years ago. Good MBBQ is hard to come by in Upstate NY!!

I'm glad they're putting in another TS. We have a RC 10 minutes from our house, so it's nothing new for us. We always do CS at AK, so this will be a nice change. :thumbsup2

Are we just assuming this or do we know this for a fact? :confused3

I have my fingers crossed that it will be DDP! Just for something different in AK.

1) All Landry restaurants at WDW are not on the DDP.
2) WDW does not reimburse enough to make it worth Landry's effort.
3) In fact many non-Disney restaurants are not on DDP.
4) And, new restaurants are not owned by Disney.
5) So, why not just go ahead and pay for the meal?

Regarding Yak and Yeti, if they intended to make an "Indian" style restaurant (which is what I assumed given the location in Adnapur) why not give it a more authentic name? Hope the food won't be too terrible. One would think they'd try for some authenticity given what the restaurants in the World Showcase do.

I don't think it is supposed to be Indian. It is listed as pan-Asian or Asian-fusion. I assume that means Chinese and Thai, mostly, with maybe an Indian or Mongolian BBQ item thrown in.

I believe the name Yak & Yeti is supposed to denote Tibetan/Mongolian and tie in the Himilayan/Everest connection.

OT: The best Indian food I've found at WDW is actually at the ABC Commissary.

But none of the Landry restaurants are inside of a theme park.

Aren't all of the TS restaurants that are inside the park on the DDP? My understanding is that several of the WS restaurants in EPCOT are not owned & operated by Disney and yet they are on the DDP. (Maybe that's wrong - I honestly don't know).

I would think Disney would get many guest complaints if the only TS restaurant inside a major theme park were not included in the DDP!

I'm waiting for the official info before I start worrying.

1) I can only go on what I have heard from someone at Joe's Crab.
2) It is a Landry's restaurant and she is working on the AK eatery.
3) Of course, things are always open to change.
