"Yak and Yeti" Restaurant Name

For those who have been pondering why Disney would give such an unappetizing name to their new table service restaurant in Animal Kingdom, I may have come across the reason. Some people who work in my firm have been vacationing in Asia, including a trip to Everest Base Camp. We've been receiving email updates of their interesting adventures. Well, today our update has them returning to Katmandu and hanging out by the pool at their (apparently very popular and well accomodated) hotel in order to recover from altitude sickness. The name of the hotel housing many such base camp tourists?

Yak and Yeti.

Coincidence?

It's a beautiful resort. The wife and I are planning a vacation there near the middle of next year. Funny thing is, I found the resort while looking for info as to when the AK restaurant will finally open. Funny how those things work out, huh?

You know, I did the same thing, I was searching YAk and Yeti online and found that too.

Considering Disney Imagineers went over their to research for Exp. Everest, I seriously doubt it was a coincidence.

It isn't a coincidence, it is named after that place.

What they didn't take into account was the WAY different American connotation for yak

I never knew about the hotel but I'm not surprised. Disney Imagineering goes out of their way to ensure accuracy. I never even thought about "that" meaning for yak! I always just figured it meant the animal yak, that is native to that part of the world. I also thought it was sort of a play on words, since the restaurant will have TS and CS and essentially be two in one, and it sort of sounds like Yin/Yang.
