yahoo messenger question

question---if I added a contact but now no longer want that contact ever to contact me.....can I just click on the contact and hit delete? will that just do it? that person will never be able to contact me? or pop up ("online), etc?
I have a feeling no............will I have to just change my whole yahoo name (identity?)

You can make it to where you are invisable to that person

i haven't used Yahoo IM in a while, but if i recall correctly, you have to block that person before you delete them in order to keep them from seeing you while you're online. in other words, deleting them takes them off your list, but doesn't take you off theirs. but if you block them first, they can't contact you. or, you can leave them on the list, and choose to be "permanently offline" to them, so that they can never see you when you sign on.

If you just delete someone from your contact list-you remain in theirs-and they can still see you when you are online-unless you use a stealth setting -then you remain in their list and they simply never see you online.
And using that option-if the person sends you an "offline" message it will still pop up. If you want to ensure they can not see you logged in and you never get messages from them do the following
in your messenger client-at the top pull down the Messenger menu, then select preferences-about half way down click on ignore list-then add the person to your ignore list. They will not be able to see you online and you will not see messages from them. If you use the same ID for email-you will still recieve email from them=to block the email address open your yahoo mail web interface-onthe right select options-then mail options-go to spam-and enter the persons email address in the blocked email field.
