Hi there,
Just canceled my ressie at ohanas for my after wedding dinner, and made it for the yachtsman steakhouse.

So, my question is do you guys have reviews or suggestions about this place, please tell me I made a good choice.:earsgirl: :earsgirl:

If you are looking for red meat, then you have made the best choice in WDW. I totally agree with the comment above.
We ate there last February and were quite pleased. My husband had a very large steak (T-bone, I think) and I had a filet. Cooked exactly the way we ordered and the portions were huge. In addition, the salads were great as well.

Ohanas is nice but an after wedding dinner it is the Yachtsman steakhouse is the best choice. It isn't as loud and the food i delicious. I had the filet mingon (sp) and it was the most tender piece of steak I have had...the atmosphere alone is real nice. Have a great time and happy wedding, :D

Good move!! Yachtsman is the much better choice for an after wedding dinner.
I've eaten there # of times. All of the steak is quite good, as is the prime rib. My favorite is the Bourbon crusted NY Strip.
They have a nice wine list and a selection of 30+ beers as well.

Good to hear. We are trying it for the first time soon.

We just ate there this week. It was great. It may have just moved ahead of my best ranking over California Grill. We ate there also this week. I found the Yachtsman to be more quite. It seems the California Grill has become a little too noisy for me. The food was great at both places, as was the service and the presentation, but Yachtsman was mush more quite. About 1/2 way through our meal a family sat near us with two little girls about 3 and 7 years old. They were little angels and quite as they should be at a eating place like the Yachtsman. It cost us $140 with the tip included. I don't drink so the price was kept down a little.

We are going to try this restuarant before our fireworks illuminations cruise in November - however, we have a large family group going and 3 kids under the age of 3 that sometimes do not cooperate in restuarants. Is going to this restuarant not such a good idea?

We really want to try it because we LOVE prime rib!!

Let me know what you think - honestly!!

Thanks,
Lisa

You are free to eat wherever you want and understand this is only my opinion, I am not in any way trying to tell you what to do. If it was me , I would'nt bring children that young to the yachtmans. It tends to be a quieter rest. with an older crowd. I hope this helps you some.:D

I would not take kids this restaurant that have any kind of problems eating out. Like I said in the previous post we had two little girls sitting next to us for about 1/2 the meal, they were never heard. I have to tell you in all candor that this restaurant is not for kids. This is a place where adults go to have a fine dinning experience. There are a few like this at WDW, very few. this is not a family restaurant by any stretch. You are saying ahead of time that the children with you do not always behave, then you should never go to the Yahtsman with them. There are baby sitting services available at WDW.

I seem to have a problem with children in restaurants! I've posted a few stories on the subject.
We have only been to the Yachtsman once. We were seated in a strange spot, kind of near the entrance against the back wall. There was a padded bench along the wall with a small table and a chair across from the table. It seemed like a busy intersection but we settled in, looking forward to a nice dinner. The restaurant was crowded and loud but we know that's what you have to expect at a DW restaurant.
What we didn't expect was the other end of the bench I was sitting on would be used as a time-out area for misbehaving children! A mother and son came and plopped down next to me. She proceeded to scold him until he cried. Then she had to comfort him for a while before returning to her table, of course.
After some time went by, I kind of gave her a "Are you crazy?" look and she smiled at me apologetically, like she had no choice but to be doing what she was doing. It was really bizarre. They sat with us for some time, seems like an hour but I know it wasn't THAT long.

The debate about children in restaurants is an exercise in futility. The parenting skills of too many parents leave much to be desired and dining in fine restaurants does nothing to improve them.

Our dining experience was tainted by the table we were given, the noise level of the room, and the nerve and rudeness of the mother who joined us!

The steaks may have been excellent, I honestly don't remember. We have stayed away from the Yachtsman since that night and have enjoyed many great meals at Flying Fish and Spoodles. We have learned to change our eating schedule so we have dinner much later when we're at DW.

The Yachtsman gets rave reviews on these boards and I'm sure your celebration will be wonderful!

Congratulations!

Lisa,

I am guessing your Priority Seating is early in the evening. And you don't mention what day of the week, or if your visit is the over-crowded NJ Week (Early November). That aside here is my suggestion.

Regardless of when your PS is scheduled, plan on arriving at 5:30pm as soon as YSH opens. Call the podium at YSH (407-934-3356) anytime after 1:30pm but before 4:30pm and speak to one of the seating staff. Tell them you have a PS, and your family is having dinner prior to a IllumiNations Cruise from Bayside Marina. Tell them you have a few small children and you don't want to disturb the other diners. Ask them if you arrive at 5:30, can you be seated in the back area, near the fireplace. This should not be a problem, since most who arrive early request to be seated in the routunda, near the windows. It is usually difficult to seat the back area when there are so many empty tables up front.
This way, you can get situated before it gets crowded, you can enjoy a nice meal (they have a great Kid's Menu) and you could be done with dinner and gone before the 7pm crunch.
Then you have some time to walk around and work off some of your meal before you have to arrive and check-in for your cruise.

It's Disney, most guests accept the fact that there will be children around!

Good Luck!

Crazy Hakim: Thank you for your words of wisdom!! We have a PS on Thursday, November 7th at 5:00 PM or 5:30 PM. (I thought it was at 5:00 but it may be at 5:30 - it is whenever the restaurant opens.

We usually request a corner spot in ANY restaurant we go to as to not disturb others eating. We are taking two 2 1/2 year olds and an 8 month old - they are not 'bad' kids, but they get a little impatient sitting for two hours - for the most part they are good. We also don't seat them in their highchairs / booster seats until their meal comes so they are not confined to their seats the whole time.

If we do decide to go I hope we don't get any crude looks from others dining there about taking kids to a DW restaurant.

Lisa

My DW and myself have ate at almost every restaurant in WDW including Yachtsman. We enjoyed our dinner there, the food was great, service wonderful, but we were not impressed by the ambiance. I guess we were expecting more based upon the other places we had eaten in WDW. I guess I was expecting more of the traditional steakhouse look. Don't get me wrong the place is very nice and does fit the Yacht Club theme but if I was eating after my dinner and V&A was too expensive for you I would choose Flying Fish or Narcoossee's more a romantic dinner. Our favorite (after V&A) is California Grille but I agree this place is loud. We have a 2 yr old DS and we make late PS's so he sleeps through dinner and does not disturb the other guests. You will not be upset with your choice but I just wanted to share my opinion. Have a great dinner and congratulations.

I appreciate that you posted a question about taking your children to the Yachtsman Steakhouse. That's very considerate of you.
My opinion is that it probably doesn't really matter what my opinion is. But, here's my opinion!

I don't label any children as "bad" and I don't blame children for misbehaving in restaurants. It's the parent's fault!

"We also don't seat them in their highchairs / booster seats until their meal comes so they are not confined to their seats the whole time."
Maybe I don't understand what you mean. They aren't confined to their seats. Where do they go?

"If we do decide to go I hope we don't get any crude looks from others dining there about taking kids to a DW restaurant."

The only time I would make a face of any kind at a parent in a DW restaurant would be if their children were misbehaving and bothering me and other diners.
There are many restaurants to choose from in DW. The Yachtsman is an expensive restaurant, it is FINE dining.

In my opinion, it is no different than fine dining anywhere else.

I would not be pleased to go to an expensive restaurant in my hometown and have my experience ruined by children running aound, or crying, or parents yelling at crying children, or children banging their silverware on their plates over and over and over again while the parents talk louder and louder to be heard over the clamor.
Disney World is for families, that's a given. I have vacationed there many many times with young children, my own and others.
I was very grateful for the babysitters at the resorts and for the babysitting clubs, but when that wasn't an option we arranged more child-oriented meals.
Disney World is supposed to be fun for everyone. Children don't think fine dining is FUN and most adults appreciate eating a $30 steak and drinking a $12 glass of wine in peace and quiet.
Just my humble opinion, of course! ;)

This is a restaurant at the place that is for families. No where does it say that this restaurant isn't a place for kids. It's not like it's V&A. No kid will ever be perfect no matter what place you take them to. Regardless if it is Mcdonalds or burger king or YS, you will have those kids that are angels and those that may be tired and want to get out of there. If you want a no kid atmosphere then I suggest you go to a restaurant that is adults only, or eat in your room. If they didn't want kids to dine there, then they wouldn't have a childs menu.

In another post on a subject about being tired of dealing with children, the person posts " There is a Disney is for children attitude out there". It appears that attitude has reared its head here. The point here is you don't go into a restaurant at WDW where fine dinning is taking place knowing that you are going in there with children that are going to act up.

Montessori--you're my kind of girl! And Kid At Heart: maybe you SHOULD stick to McDonalds, unless you're feeding your youngsters at 5-6 PM and no later. Years ago, when Disneyland was new, you would NEVER see a child at a restaurant or "dance area" after the sun went down. I am a nursery school teacher of 2 year olds and I know how a child acts when they are overtired. It's not a pleasant sight. I would never infringe my overtired children on others after a certain hour in certain restaurants.
Yachtsmans Steakhouse is that kind of restaurant. We DID take our 12 year old there and he was fine, but after an hour, he had enough and wanted to go back in our room and in his sweats. I don't think we have enough consideration for adults anymore. Children are the light of my eye, but they belong in their pjs after a certain hour after traipsing through WDW for 7 hours straight. We, as parents and caregivers, set the limits, and see to it that our children are well cared for and rested for another day at the most wonderful place on earth!! Enough said...and I'm sure I'll get hell for this too!
All the best, Wilma:wave:

Pay no attention to that, last time I was there there were kids running around everywhere. A couple of them even bumped into our table. Some were yelling, some were crying, there were all kinds of kids there. Don't fret about taking children to YSH.
