Yachtsman: Yeah or Nay?

Yachtsman on DxDP: Yay or Nay?

  • Yeah! Both, steak and non-steaks were great

  • Only go for steaks

  • Only go for non-steaks

  • Nay! Go somewhere else

I have seen pictures of the steaks at YS and they don't look great. It seems it's just a steak on a plate, with maybe a side. How are the non-steak entrees? I'm thinking my DH may go for a steak, but I may go for lamb, seafood or fish.

I voted nay, since I don't think Yachtsman is a very impressive signature in terms of food or atmosphere. The steak is simply served with potato and sauce, but for something so plain I could go to better places at home. And their non-steak selection is rather small, but if a specific dish appeals to you then it might be worth trying.

Honestly, I'm considering Yachtsman for our next trip - we've been there twice and never been blown away, but I'm willing to give it another chance. This time I don't want to get steak.

By the way, not to get totally off-topic, but I read your reviews of LC. Very interesting. I know some do not find the new menu appealing, but I find that kind of menu more appealing than a traditional steakhouse - more choices and more interesting preparations. I currently have a lunch and a dinner ADR at LC, and probably will not keep both because we probably won't get hoppers and without hoppers we would not be able to eat at Epcot on our DHS day. Anyways, thanks for posting the pics and reviews of LC.:thumbsup2

I said Nay...if you're on the dining plan, there are better signatures. If OOP, I'm not sure...

I hope it helped, even if you don't end up eating dinner there. I'm not the biggest steak fan in the world, so Le Cellier's smaller selection of steaks doesn't upset me that much, and Yachtsman's assortment of steak doesn't really entice me to go there.

That said, there are some items on the current online Yachtsman menu I would be willing to try, such as the scallop appetizer and chicken with duck confit and quail egg.

Here's the thing: for just steaks, Shula's is miles better.

However, outside of Shula's, Yachtsman probably has the best ribeye on property. I think the real winner at Yachtsman is in the appetizers, though. They have some great flavors packed into those few selections.

I might even go as far as to recommend that you just go belly to the bar at the Crew's Cup Lounge next door and order a few appetizers to share.

I'm more in the "Meh" category so I didn't vote.

However, the chocolate caramel dessert at the Yachtsman is one of the best desserts on property. :)

We went for the first time last trip and have no plans to go back. A big let down (especially for a Signature restaurant).

When the question is Yachtsman, the answer is always Yea.

But then we always order steak at a steakhouse. Just like we always get seafood at a seafood place.

If you aren't going to get steak for your meal, then consider a different restaurant. Not that YSH does other things badly, its just not their forte.

A lot of people seem to prefer the steak offerings at California Grill, Flying Fish, Jiko, etc. So I would say relatively speaking Yachtsman is better for steaks than for other things, but that doesn't mean Yachtsman has the best filet or strip steak on the DDP.

I will agree with a pp and say that in WDW, Shula's is the best steak. But with that I enjoy Yachtsman. When I go to a place like Shula's, Le'Cellier or Yachtsman I Only want one thing from a steak house, BEEF. I'm not interested if it has Seared Gooseberry Cod, Roasted Duck Breast and Leg Confit or Potato Leek and Goat Cheese Quiche, SHOW ME THE BEEF. Knock it's horns off and slap 12 oz's of medium (or more) on my plate and I am in all my glory. :rotfl:

I have been there 2 times and going back in May. I have always had great steak and service when I was there. My mom tried something different the last time we went (I can't remember what) but she did enjoy it. I say go and make you own opinion.

I'm going to have to say Yea, I had the best Lamb ragout and salad with beets and fried goat cheese. My DH was very pleased with his steak. We don't do dinning plan but find the price comparable to Le Cellier but thought it was mile better in food and service.

Great to hear they can cook other stuff besides steaks.

I'm leaning towards keeping my ADR. My goal is to eat at all the Signatures.

That reminds me of William Macy in Happy, Texas: "Give me the meanest steak you got! Rare, and I mean rare! Just de-horn it, wipe its butt and send it in." :rotfl:
I tend to prefer food that's more nuanced, but I can keep an open mind.

Yeah, it's this sort of experience that has me doubting my ADR here. For some, it's definitely missing the wow factor and for some it was terrible,

*That* sounds good.

Yeah, we're on the DxDP. We're also staying at the YC, so there's a convenience factor involved in just staying at the resort one night.

Yay!
EVERYTHING was great!
:thumbsup2

The apps is what got me interested in the first place. Glad to hear that at least *that* part of the meal will likely be decent.

Shula's IS better-----
Don't doubt it. Maybe the following trip will venture off in the land of no DxDP and try Shula's and bluezoo.
