A group of 5 of us went to Yachtsman Steakhouse to celebrate a birthday and though we had a good time, for the price we paid, it really wasn't worth it. I can say two nights prior I went with a friend to Round Up BBQ at the Studios and though its a completely different restaurant, that was a much better experience!

To start off with, one person in our group who ordered the French onion soup (or as he called it, the "super salty soup" lol) received it a full 10 minutes before the rest of the table received our appetizers. He politely waited for the rest of the table to receive our appetizers, but after about 7 minutes or so, we told him he should just go ahead and start. The rest of us received our appetizers all at the same time (I got the lobster bisque with was soooooo good with those onion rolls!), but it was just odd we all didn't receive our entrees at least somewhat around the same time.

Then we received our entrees, and the clear winner was the pork chop- it was so good! It comes with this feta spoonbread that was also really good! I unfortunately got the New York strip, medium rare, and it wasn't good at all! For $59, I expected something I didn't have to chew and chew and chew on- it was so tough!, though the loaded baked potato that came with it was good.

The awkward part was the round table we sat at wobbled really badly. Watching the 5 wine glasses on the table wobble each time someone tried to cut into their food became funny after a while (if you've ever seen the Lisa from Temecula SNL skit, it was kind of like that). The manager of the restaurant came to our table and asked how everything was, and we mentioned the wobbly table, but he apologized and quickly moved on to the next table. I think he was just making his rounds and didn't want honest feedback; just wanted to show he was there.

Then onto the desserts. I LOVE a good smoked old fashioned cocktail, and I noticed throughout the evening that I would smell a smoky smell occassionally through the restaurant. It made me want a smoked old fashioned so bad, but I didn't see that anywhere on the cocktail menu. The mystery was solved when I ordered the creme brulee and it came covered in a smoked bell glass; they smoke their creme brulee! It was so odd- it didn't really add anything to the flavor of the dessert; just made for an interesting presentation and reveal. The othere desserts at the table, the carrot cake and chocolate cake, were alright, but not $15 each worth of alright.

Our server was nice enough, but you could tell he was overwhelmed and basically did his spiel of what he recommends for each course of the menu without really interacting too much. I think he was just too busy. Even our server at the Round Up BBQ, Liz from Long Beach, CA, at least engaged with us and gave us the lay of the land so to speak in a conversational manner, and that's in a place where you really don't have to order anything- they just bring it all!

Overall, I don't see how they justify the price of the Yachtsman, especially with so many other great steakhouses and restaurants around. :(

Blame it on free dining! Well, at least partially. Restaurants will buy cheaper cuts of meat because of the free dinning promotion. The chefs are under pressure to cut their budgets. Though I do feel that overall, the quality of dining at Disney has not returned to how it was pre-covid.

I don’t think Disney pressures the Food and Bev department to cut their budget during the free dining period.. Mgmt knows well in advance when they will announce marketing such as this and the various food divisions are too large to change specifications. JMO

They absolutely do. That’s why you often see menu changes before free dining starts. They do know it’s coming and it is planned for, that is correct.

We had one of our best dining experiences at Yachtsman a couple of months ago. The prime rib was excellent, and the French onion soup was outstanding. The garlic spread for the rolls was incredible too. We did have an AP discount of 35% if I remember correctly, so it was easier to justify the costs.

We dined at the Yachtsman way back in 2014 & had an amazing experience with great food.
Family members dined there last christmas & they were underwhelmed with the experience. They had a slow service as well with some appetizers arriving at the table 5minutes before others. The said the waiter they had was slow & they had to keep gesturing to him constantly for drink re-fills. They all said the steak was ok but they have had better at non signature places. To one extent my BIL stated the Brisket at the Polite Pig was better than what he had there.

Unacceptable for a "high end" restaurant. We had one real good experience there and one not so good. My daughter ordered a prime rib medium. The whole face of the piece was gray which is odd, then she cut into it and it was raw. We told the waiter it wasn't cooked right and he tried to tell her that she didn't order it right. I was nice and said no she ordered the steak the way she wanted but it didn't come out like that. It's one of those moments you wish you could go back in time to lol. I would have nicely tore into him, a prime rib should never be gray across the whole face if you order it medium. They took the same piece and cooked it more, making the face more well done, tough, and dried out. I would expect that quality from Applebees, not a "high end" steakhouse.

I wouldn’t even expect that at Applebees!

that you it isn't me! I don't know what is going on but it is going down and it's going down FAST! are people not eating at signatures as much cause of the price. I assume that is a yes cause getting ADR's at any sign is pretty easy anymore compared to years ago when I would have to choose what I booked in a certain order to not loose out on some of the sign places we love.

They are deff not being allowed to pull ingredients from outside sources like they used to. It's deff all in house now. Every cut of meat is looking same at all the places. I should have taken pics of all our meals last trip we ate at Flying fish, Jiko, Citricos, Topalino and yachtsman to name a few and steaks were all identical cuts.

All in all sign's have gone down the hill. Your last flying fish meal before the cruise with my parents after my dad and myself both got the strip which used to be the best on property I felt was cheap looking like really cheap looking. I said on another post my dad threw me a look and my wife looked at it and goes. . . "really". when we left my wife goes. . . done. I follow up and say then which sign's from past 2 trips would you go back to. . . she said none. I kinda agree. we have eaten at the sign's for 25 plus years but since covid it's been going down. in the past yah you catch an off meal here and there but not like its been going and we are talking big money anymore especially without tables in wonderland but prices have always been higher than other places in the parks obviously but the prices are now really really high which is totally fine if the quality is there.

so if I was going back this week and had to pick places to eat my list is really small. . .

morimoto is still good.
polite pig is always consistent.
il mulino is still consistent.
boat house of fine for what it is.
topalino is solid.

narcoossee's. . . totally forgot. still in. I got the strip second to last trip. . . was really good. wife's meal was good. we used to always say this was the most consistent place on property. with I thought was odd this strip was so good vs flying fish strip to compare.

flying fish would be ok for me but my wife would say no even though the snapper (which she always gets) is still perfect but she feels the cost vs quality is out.

jiko would be out. I say this with a heavy food heart. lol
citricos out
yachtsman out

that is all I can think of right now

Forget climate change. I blame the strange weather patterns on Free Dining. :)
