Yachtsman Steakhouse

My family really enjoys it. We usually have dinner there once every trip. Both DH & DS13 are HUGE meat eaters & always look forward to it. DD16 & I are not such big meat lovers, but always greatly enjoy our dinners there as well.

The atmosphere is perfect for a quiet meal. Dress is "dressy casual" or better. My family usually wears our matching Disney polos with black shorts...sometimes we girls wear black capris.

Our meals tend to be longer there...about two hours. Sometimes our server will ask us at the beginning if we have any place to be or not and if we want a "quicker or longer-paced" meal.

We're going back this June & will be in WDW during Father's Day. I was going to book The Yachtsman, but DH said it's been awhile since we've gone to Shula's, so I booked that instead.

Although we are in the minority here on the DIS we will not return to YSH. We do not like the food. We have tried 3 times and never again.
It is a beautiful restuarnt, with great servers, but we didn't enjoy our dinners. I was very disappointed.

So how does Shula's compare? We are thinking of booking one of them for our 20th anniversary trip! It's just DH and me. We won't be in a rush that evening. Looking for a nice place where you can still be casual. Our 15th anniversary trip we ate at Cali Grille. It was lovely but this time we want to stay close to the hotel and have a delicious relaxing meal. Thought walking over to Yachtsman would be great.

Sounds like you really gave them several times to get it right. What was the main complaint about the food? Was it not prepared properly or just not good?

We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner at Shula's (only dined there once, back in 2007). I think you would have a great anniversary dinner at the Yachtsman.

Thanks Daisy! I have a few days before I can book it but I think that is the direction I'm leaning right now. Thanks!

Sorry but no good review here either..for a 2 credit ts i did not think it was worth it..The steaks were ok but I'd have a Flo's Filet any day at LongHorn before i'd eat here again..And take my advice on this one..When u see seafood salad on the menu for appetizer(stay far far far away from it) It was not what i expected and tasted so gross..that turned me off from the start.

We had a very enjoyable meal with our family of 7 last November. No one had any complaints.

Yachtsman Steakhouse used to be high on our list, but it has become hit or miss as far as quality of food goes in recent years. Prices went up significantly, which is fine if the quality of the food is worth it, but portion seemed to get smaller and the quality isn't as consistent as it used to be (a friend recently sent her steak back twice). I know many of you rate a restaurant according to table service credits, but you might also look at the prices and make a real world comparison. I don't mind paying top dollar for any meal as long as it's a top dollar meal.

We had a fabulous dinner there in March. I made it into a surprise party for my stepson and his girlfriends birthdays. I had special ordered a cake from the bakery. They really were great from start to finish! They gave us an excellent window table. Our server was top notch and never left us hanging. The food was great and everyone in our party of 4 was happy with it. They even cut our cake, served us, and boxed up the rest for travel. We will be back for sure!

How is Yachtsman? What is the atmosphere like?

We used to go there each trip but then got so steaks so bad we changed to Le Cellier and now they have went to 2 Ts and they not that good there so last trip we tired Kona's Cafe and it was so good we ate there twice:cool1:

atmosphere at Yachtsman is good it was the food not so good as had been, another good one is Grand Floridan Cafe or the Wave:thumbsup2

We tried Yachtsman for the first time this past December and we loved it.....the filet was awesome :thumbsup2. We thought the atmosphere was very nice....we had a table by the window that looked out toward SAB, which was very pretty all lit up :). We will definitely have Yachtsman on our list for future trips :goodvibes.

The atmosphere is very nice, the food is hit or miss. Just like most of the restaurants at WDW, it's not as good as it once was, but you can still enjoy the meal. Re the dress--it's just the standard Disney dress code for signature restaurants--no cutoffs, swimwear, tank tops for men, or ripped clothes. While the atmosphere leans toward upscale, you will see people in park clothes there. :earsboy:

Go to Shulas. All of the Swan/Dolphin upscale restaurants are better than Disneys (except V&A), especially for adult only meals.

We used to enjoy it quite a bit. Went in November and wasn't that impressed. Food wasn't as it used to be, the potatoes we had were cold (hard cold, not just cold- yuck). Service couldn't of been better though. We told them it was our anniversary and requested a 'quiet' area. We were seated between two tables of six, 2 adults, 4 smallish kids. Obviously, both families were on the dining plan, who would ever PAY for all the food their kids didn't eat? Nothing like having a child stand next to you and stare and talk to you while you're trying to eat. Yea, not the child's fault, the parent's fault. For the amount of money we paid, should of been better. Time to try somewhere else. Disappointing.

I would have said to the parent, excuse me but I prefer to eat without having someone stand by my table and stare.

Sometimes you just have to do it. Also when I ask for a certain type of table and I am taken to something not even close I simply tell them this is not going to work but I am willing to wait.

Lousy experience there a few weeks back from bad service to awful meals x 7..very disappointing:sad2:

I gave it a 5 on a scale of 1-10, and that was more for the dinner rolls, desserts & adult beverages. The steaks were disappointingly mediocre...have had better sirloins from the grocery store and grilled in the back yard. We've been to nearly 60 of Disney's restaurants and have had better steaks at most of their non-signature places at 1/2 the cost (or 1/2 the credits if you're on dining plan.)

Ambiance is a joke in there...tables are 18" apart so you're within easy talking distance of everyone around you. i.e., not a romantic place to be at all.

I'd try Shula's too. Though I've been to Shula's in a different city and thought they were overpriced (good steak, but overpriced.)
