DH and I are thinking of trying the Yachtsman this trip. How is the food? Can you order the Australian Wagyu on the dining plan? If you love Yachtsman what is your favorite thing on the menu?

We're thinking of maybe doing the DxDDP for a night (separate reservation) and thinking we might go to the Yachtsman.

The menu does change periodically, when we were there in Jan the Australian Wagyu was not on the menu. If it is, you can order it with the DDP

We have been to Yachtsman twice, once in Sept and then this past Jan. Sept was perfect! Jan was still very very good, but the mushrooms were way too salty. :scared: However, the root vegetables were fantastic.

I had the cowboy ribeye and hunny had the porterhouse. Both excellant cuts of meat and prepared perfectly.

I love the Yachtsman, the filet is awesome but my fav is the onion pull apart rolls with fresh roasted garlic.

DH doesnt really care for the Yachtsman, he has had better steaks at Jiko and Flying Fish

Yes, you can get the Wagyu on the dining plan.

Whether you want to or not is another question.

We ate there in last December. The restaurant didn't impress us. Atmosphere was elegant, but nothing special. Service was good. The food......eh. My wife's filet was excellent. That was the extent of excellence. The sides were very disappointing. Even the truffle oil added to the mashed that came with the Wagyu couldn't elevate them past average at best. Oh, back to that Wagyu. Worst piece of meat I ever had. I'm hoping I just caught them on a bad night and got the worst butchered piece of beef in the history of steakhouses. But even if that is a possibility, I wouldn't risk ordering that steak again. Yes, I know the marbelization and fat content is supposed to be high, that is what makes the meat so tender and flavorful. And I will say this......what I could eat of my steak was wonderful. It was essentially an intense strip flavor with the tenderness of a filet. Good stuff. That said, the piece of meat I was served had a huge seam running through the middle of it that made the whole steak hard to eat, and on top of that there was a good half inch slab of pure, inedible fat along one side of the steak. We're not talking marbelized meat, this was F...A...T fat. Of the 10 oz I was served I had to have left 3 oz of fat on the plate.

Like I said, I was probably the unlucky recipient of a poorly buthcered piece of meat, but for a steakhouse of this level that is inexcusable.

We have eaten there 2 years in a row and have had great food and service both times. We have tried the filet, ribeye with horseradish mashed potatoes and the NY strips. For apps the chilled seafood platter, cheese plate, farmers salad and veal sweet breads. I am looking forward to going this year as well.

We've eaten here quite a few times and we have enjoyed the filet but any other pieces of beef have had the same strips of fat running through them that DisneyKidds mentions. I love steak fat, my favorite part of it actually, but these strips are tough, so tough my steak knife can't cut through them. I've done the New York and the Ribeye and have had this experience. So although I'm not a huge fan of filets (less flavor) I get them here now because at least I can cut them.

I love the desserts at Yachtsman, I think they are the best in all of Disney's signatures.

Service here has always been very good.

I have never been but my Parents love it here. Dad loves the Filet .

My wife and I really enjoy the Yachtsman. She always gets the fillet and has never been disappointed. I always get the chicken and it has always been good, although I preferred the risotto that they used to serve with it over the root vegetables that they serve now. We usually get a salad and those have always been pretty good. The sides have been disappointing though, not bad, just nothing special. There dessert selection doesn't do anything for me, but I have had the sorbet and it was good, but a little melted.

I don't recall seeing Wagyu on the menu in the past two times that we have been (Oct and Jan).

DH and I love the Yachtsman! We both get the porterhouse which is huge and so delicious. We also love the onion pull apart bread. We are going back in June if we can get an ADR. DH is not a big Disney nut like me but he agreed to let us go back in June as long as he can eat dinner at Yachtsman and breakfast at Crystal Palace. I hope I don't have any problems with the ADR's.

Any report on the Yachtsman Key Lime Pie? I am collecting dessert data! :goodvibes

We have dined at the Yachtsman Steakhouse many times and have never been disappointed. The food is good and the service is excellent.

Currently Waygu is not on the menu. They have a great selection of hand cut steaks.

I absolutely loved the key lime pie, normally a favorite dessert of mine, it was particularly good there. Not too heavy, not too tart. Just right.

Another disappointing Disney restaurant for us. I don't know why but we've never been satisfied on the three occassions we've been.

The first time we had a server who was so awful that the manager changed him. The next time we were left waiting for a long time between courses and the last time we had cold food.

That's the three strikes rule for us. No more.

We were just at the Yachtsman steakhouse for our 20th anniversary dinner on 2-11-09. I think we were the first ones seated for dinner. They sat us right in front of the window looking out over the pool which was nice. They knew it was our anniversary and could not have been nicer. They had special menus for us printed at the top with Happy 20th anniversary and our names. Our server could not have been nicer, he was just great very attentive, but not intrusive. I loved the bread with the baked garlic to spread on it!! It was delicious. I had the filet which was very very good. My husband had the NY sirlion which he said was a little tough! But he must have liked it ok as he ate it all!! I loved the atmosphere of the resteraunt and it is just beautiful with all the wood and all. We were on the DP so dessert was included, but before we could pick dessert our server brought out the mini wedding cake I had ordered ahead of time as a surprise for my husband. They did a nice job on this cake and he took it back to the kitchen and had it cut in half and we each were served half. It was chocolate cake with chocolate mousse filling and white buttercream frosting. It was absolutely delicious, one of the best cakes I have had. (And I make cakes myself). Thanks Tink901 for your help with that. I think I may have seen your husband on the way out, but not sure so I did not say anything!! Anyway it was one of the best meals we had on our trip and I would not hesitate to go back here again. And for the cakes well as I said exceptional. And the service like I said was exceptional as well, I wish I could remember the servers name, he was so good and could not thank us enough when we were leaving! After our great dinner we went on an Illuminations cruise with some other people from the Dis we all met there and had a great time, except for my garlic breath!!! LOL......:lmao:

Glad you enjoyed your dinner and cake. You could have approached him he's used to it, since you were there on a Wednesday I'm sure you saw him. Glad you had a great trip!!!

I'm sad to report the Waygu steak last month was not good. Well, what was edible was good, but there was so much gristle and unedible parts that I was very disappointed.

DH and I went on our 11th Anniversary in December 2007. We had the Chateaubriand for Two and LOVED it. I also really enjoyed the onion rolls and my Lobster Bisque soup appetizer.

I pre-ordered a special cake so we did not have dessert there.

Melissa

PS. ACK I just looked on allears and I don't see the Chateaubriand for two on the menu anymore.

We're regular patrons of YSH - 2-3 times per year - and have never been disappointed there. We've got a couple of favorite servers there, Oscar and Yun, who we have gotten to know pretty well. They complement the great food, with great service.
