Yachtsman Steakhouse with kids?

Has anyone out there brought young children to Yachtsman Steakhouse? If so, how was it? Did your kids like it? Did you get a lot of dirty looks from other diners for brining in young children?

We have a 4 and 6 year old and I was interested in hearing other people’s stories before I decide about bringing our kids with us to this restaurant.

Thanks

Well my child is 13 but when we were there last year there were plenty of kids and really no one paid attention as long as they were behaved. We did eat kind of earlier in the evening around 6pm. If they like what's on the kids menu you should be fine.

If your kids can sit quietly for a long time, then you should be okay.

DH, DD13, DS10, & I ate there last August (got an ADR there in less than two weeks :cool1:) and we had a nice, leisurely meal that lasted just under two hours.

*Note that when we were being seated, our waiter asked us if we wanted a "slow-paced" dinner, or a "quicker" one. We told him we'd be be fine with the leisurely paced version.

As long as you don't flirt with the waiter while your husband is engrossed in his blackberry, thereby allowing your youngest to run around the restaurant dragging his blankie behind him and your older one to crawl under the tables, you should be fine. ;)

I actually saw that exact scenario there in December...but by and large most kids there are fine. Just be prepared for a long meal, and an atmosphere that really and truly isn't that kid friendly--there's not a lot to hold their interest, unless they really like looking at raw meat.

Its Disney! Take the kids wherever you want to eat and trust me, no one will give you dirty looks unless the kids are acting wild and you are ignoring them...that happened to me last month at Flying Fish...the table next to us had 4 boys and they were acting like wild animals, rolling on the floor, yelling and screaming, running around the restaurant, bumping waiters, bumping DH's chair, standing next to our table just staring at us....I complained to the waiter and he said the waiter for that table has already spoken to them but the 4 adults at the table did absolutely nothing to control the boys.

I finally had to mouth off to them and shortly after they did leave.

To me Yachtsman is one of the quietest signatures at WDW, the atmosphere is very subdued there and there isn't much to hold the interest of the younger diners, nothing to look at, no interesting decor, etc. If your children are used to sitting through long meals, you will enjoy your dinner there.

We took DD and DS (4.5 and 2.5 at the time) to Yachtsman and we had no problems. They both behaved very well, but they are used to eating out and we don't bring anything to entertain them when we go out to dinner, no DS, no videos, no books, etc. Also we told them they could have the dessert where you paint a white chocolate puzzle, so they behaved extra well.

We took our 4yoDD and 6yoDS to Yachtsmans in January with no problems.

My most favorite meal of all time is the Yachtsman Steak House at Disney World with just my husband and me. That was at our table. At other tables, there were kids but they were not a bother at all.

My advice to you to help you decide to bring your kids or not is to simply ask yourself if your kids can handle it. It would be probably close to two hours for the kids to sit and either entertain themselves or have you do it without involving the other tables (trying to get the people next to you to play peek-a-boo is not allowed). If they and you can do that, don't worry about it.

I wouldn't have hesitated taking my son at your childrens' ages. He would take along a comic book (or five) and read those when he wasn't eating. Now, I wouldn't haven't have taken our friends' kids who could barely sit still for five minutes.

Point is - they are YOUR kids. You know them best.
