Ok...big question....

Would you pick Yachtsman steakhouse or Shulas?

Yachtsman- we can get 20% off using the Disney Dining card.

Shulas- We're hoping to get a great rate at the Dolphin or Swan so that would be convenient AND we could have free childcare while just the adults eat. (don't have to pay for the 3 kids to eat!)

So...what you would pick?

This has always been a big debate on this forum. Our family gives a huge thumbs-up to YS. Every appy, entree, dessert has always been delicious. For the kids, they have this cool puzzle cookie that you paint using edible paints and a brush. That was always a great ending to the meal for our children.

Weve never been to Shulas, but I have to agree with what disneysue said..from our bread with butter & garlic, to the salad, to the meat, potatoes, spinach, and dessert, everything in our meal at YSH was pefect!

We love Yachtsmans, the food and service are excellent. Havent been to Shula's yet. If only they would take our DDE card.

Thank you for your responses!! All in favor of Yachtsman, it seems.

Grumpy- we are also spoiled by the DDE card. We won't let it make all our decisions for us, but sometimes it is the tiebreaker.

CamColt- reading the list of your likes makes me want to try it even more! Thank you!

disneysue- I didn't know about the cookie. I made a note in my file. I know my kids would love that.

Have a magical night!

I've dined at both places. For a long time I was avoiding the YSH, it had REALLY taken a tumble in quality. I ate there last month and was pleasantly surprised. It was back to the quality of food and almost the quality of service that they offered seven or eight years ago.

YSH is far less expensive than Shula's. IMHO the portions at Shula's are ridiculously large, with a high price tag. One dinner entree is more than enough to feed the average couple between them, if you add a side. You end up paying either a plate splitting charge or for an extra meal that you really don't need.

The portions at YSH are also generous, the last time we ate there, DS and I split an appetizer and entree, and neither had room for dessert. No extra plate charge there, and they were happy to do it for us.

I think that dinner at the YSH without the kids (put them in the kids club at the BC for two hours) will end up costing the same as dinnre at Shula's. And I much prefer the atmosphere at YSH. Hope this all makes sense.

Beth,

another vote for Yachtsman. Sandcastle club is a great place for kids. My son loves it there. I'm not sure of the price but I believe it's about $12 an hour per kid (that includes their dinner.)

Such a decision! These are two of my favorite restaurants. For overall quality of steak you can't beat Shula's and the portions are HUGE. I think the atmosphere at YSH is lighter and there are more choices available. I've got PS at YSH for 9/5/04 (our almost 6 month anniversary).

The Yachtsman Steakhouse was absolutely the best meal of our last trip in July. They served my 3 year old his food immediately before the others (every parent of a young child knows this is important) without even being asked to. My DH and I split an appetizer and they plated it on two separate plates before bringing it out again without being asked to. The food was delicious from beginning to end. The service was excellent. And my DH said that whoever invented the chocolate puzzle with paints was a genius. Usually by dessert time kids are ready to go but this kept the 3 year old busy while we enjoyed a leisurely dessert.

I think there is no comparison. The quality of the beef alone would be reason enough to go out to Shula's. YSH when you price it out is just as pricey for less.

If you haven't been to Shula's you need to try and then choose between the two.

My DH and I are Shula's fans. We also love football, so it's fitting. He bought a "dressy" Patriots button down to wear there during our trips in August and October, and he's asked for a gift certificate (aka "cash") from my parents for his birthday present to use at Shula's.

The quality of the food is outstanding; we make this a must-do every trip.

Haven't tried Shula's, but if you go to YSH, try the dessert sampler. OMG it was good :faint:
