Just wondering which you would choose. Yachtsman Steakhouse or Artist Point? DW loves her fillets and we both love our wine. We ate at Yachtsman during our last trip and vowed to return this trip but we are staying at WL this time. Should we make the trip downstairs or over to YC?

I rank them about the same. If I were staying at WL I'd go to AP; if I were staying at YC I'd go to Yachtsman. These are both toward the bottom of my list in ranking the signatures--good enough for dining if convenient but not good enough to hassle traveling to them.

I agree with Pakey and maitland.
But Artist Point IS at the bottom of my signature list.
So if you have a car and can get to YSH easily enough, I'd go there for the steak and wine.

If you've never tried either I would go with YS, although I am a fan of AP.

Artist Point is actually our favorite for many sentimental reasons, but I recognize that it has had some decline in recent years. It was long our anniversary dinner every May (10 years - 7 with the same server). We skipped May this year and held out for the Copper River Salmon in June. The decline hasn't so been the quality so much as portion size, menu options and cost. When our fav server when to Grand Floridian Cafe that stung a bit too. The Portabello soup has always been consistently great. I like the portion size Sweet Potato Hazelnut Gratin side, but preferred when you could just have it with your entree. They used to be better about letting you pick and choose what you wanted mixing the menu.

We haven't been to YS - hoping to this summer, but I would expect it to be excellent.

I'm sorry to hear Artist Point has declined. It has been a few years since we've eaten at either but I much prefer Artist Point. I think it is cozier and a nice, relaxed place to get a great meal (at least when I ate there). The service was also excellent.

Have fun making your decision.

I have eaten at both many times (and ate at both on my recent trip in Oct 2010). Both are fine signature restaurants, but (like others have said) they are not at the top of my favorite signature restaurants list. I always like the convenience of going to a signature restaurant at the resort I am staying at, so if you are staying at WL and have never been to AP, I would give that a try over YS for this trip.

Ok, so it sounds like these are at the bottom of the signature list. What is at the top that we should replace these two with?

My husband and I loved them both. We always do an "adult" meal when we go to Disney. We loved both places. But, if I were you and staying at WL - I would do Artist POint due to the convenience. I am all about "efficiency" at Disney and if you don't have a car - getting to YS would be a pain. But, if you want other choices - we have had great meals at Narcooses and California Grill - which would be be convenient by boat from WL - right? Those might be some easy alternatives.

I think both have their strong points.

Artist Point seems more intimate (i.e. more spread out), has better views if you can sit near the windows, and at least offers a wine flight for a set price if you want it.

Yachtsmen has nicer bread, a good steak selection, and better desserts.

I would still choose AP if I had to choose 1 of them though

That is a tough choice considering that we love both restaurants the same. But I do have to agree with the other PPs that since you are staying at WL, you should definitely go to AP. Both restaurants have great food and service and wonderful atmosphere. Have a great trip.

I didn't realize that you were staying at WL - I would definitely give AP a try. When I said decline - I'm not sure its something that someone who hasn't been going there on a regular basis would even notice, but I can see where some people who are familar with AP would notice. I still love it and will be there for Copper River Salmon season again this summer. Not to mention the soup!

The top of my list really does have to go California Grill. We've consistently had excellent meals and service there.

We tried Cali Grill last visit and other than the fireworks view, did not think it was anything to write home about. We have decided to give AP a try. Thanks for all the help!

We very much enjoyed Artist Point. It isn't on the top of our favorites list in the sense that we don't make the trip over when we're not staying at Wilderness Lodge (we don't rent a car and it can be a pain to get to on Disney transport), but I'm very happy we tried it on our stay there. The salmon was excellent, as was the sweet potato side, and DH enjoyed his buffalo (strip loin, I think) so much that I didn't even get a taste.

Yachtsman is our least favorite signature overall, not because it was bad but because it is just a nice steakhouse, not really any different from places that we can go here at home. The food was good but not outstanding, and none of us feel any overwhelming desire to return.
