Yachtsman....kids?

Of course! This is Disney and kids are welcome at all restaurants except Victoria and Albert's, where the age limit is 10. Lots of kids would love a good steak. Enjoy.

Thanks! I figured that disney thought it was acceptable, but not sure how other patrons felt about it. I was also thinking this might be a night timet to drop the kids at a kids club and have a date night.

I never know what people mean by "acceptable" - is it "will they allow us in with kids" or "will people look at us funny because we have kids with us?"

At a Disney-owned restaurant that takes the dining plan, probably neither applies. Yachtsman allows children and has a children's menu. (You will find more families with young kids in the signature restaurants in the earlier dinner hours)

There are a lot of kids at Disney and they are everywhere (except V&A's).

That said, you know your kids. Would they be able to sit (somewhat) quietly and not bother other patrons during an extended meal? Normally signature meals take a bit more time then you might spend at other restaurants. Would the kids be able to handle this? Would you be willing to excuse yourself if your children start to misbehave and ruin the atmosphere and take them out until the calm down?

Children are welcome at signature restaurants, as long as their behavior doesn't negatively affect the other diners.

I'd appreciate it if your kids didn't crawl under my table while we're eating, but otherwise I think it's fine.:earsboy:

We ate at the Yachtsman Steakhouse last October with our friends and their 2 yr old and a 4 yr old. We made ADRs for their opening at 5:30 PM. Our waiter was great. He came to our table and took our drink orders and we asked him take the kids dinner order. The kids meals arrived at the table by 5:40. They also provided crayons and special placemats for the kids to draw on. We didn't get appetizers and asked if our meals could be served a a quicker pace. We also got dessert and we were done by 6:30 PM. After dinner we took the boat and were at DHS by 7:00 PM to see Fantasmic!

We went to The Yachtsman for the first time last August. There were a lot more kids and it was much more boisterous :rolleyes1 there than I would have expected for a signature. It wasn't a problem, just more families than I thought. So you would be fine, I'm sure.

I dined there with my husband and 4 kids (13,8,5, and 3 at the time) and didn't feel out of place at all. The only thing about signatures is that the meals tend to take longer and some kids could get a little stir-crazy. Mine were happy eating and coloring (and playing with a few toy cars on the placemat.) It was a very enjoyable meal and we are going back in a month.

Really? Some people are so unreasonable! :thumbsup2

My kids are generally very good a restaurants. I've never had to pick them up and leave....and believe me i would if i had too.

Our kids will be 12 and 9 for our trip in Sept. We are on Dlx dining and will be eating at:

Yachtsman Steakhouse, Calf. Grill (twice) & Flying Fish. They actually choice them to eat at this trip. They are very well behaved in restuarants and I too would take them out if they were not. They really enjoyed Calf Grill our last trip in Dec 08 and our waiter was fabulous with them, there were many families eating there.

We have dined at Yachtsman Steakhouse every year since they opened, it has always been loud, wood floors and there have always been children seated at at least 90% of the tables. If you want a romantic dinner I'd go elsewhere.

You kiddos are pretty close to my kiddos ages, within about a year of each kid.

That said - I think if you can get a reservation within the first 30-45 minutes of dinner dining reservations, it should be ok. The reason why I say this is because the signatures can take anywhere from 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 hours, closer to the 2+ hour mark for just adults. So, if you show up at 6pm, you may not leave until 8pm or later. And as you go further past the opening mark and your waiter has more patrons, the slower and longer it will take for your kids to get their meal.

I can tell you that my hubby and I went to Flying Fish this past November for our 10th Anniversary and we were lucky enough that my just older sister took my 2 kids, then 7 and 5, to Beaches and Cream while hubby and I had dinner. Our ressies started at 6:15pm, no kids. We finished at near 8:45pm, or maybe closer to 9pm. My sis just called us as she was taking the kids around the boardwalk to see were we were at for dinner so she could plan more - we were in early stages of dessert and stuffed, so we left after she called within 10 minutes or so.

I think if we had had a ressie b4 6pm, especially closer to 5pm, we could have made it within 90-120 minutes. Honestly though, I can't see getting out of a signature in under 90 minutes and that's pushing it...jmho...

If you think your kids are ready for that, then you're set to go.

Our kids were boarder line even 8 months ago. But, we took them to a Simply Fondue place last month and that meal took around 2 hours. They got bored after about 90 minutes, but the dessert fondue brought them back to life, lol. At the time, DD was 8 yrs to the day and DS was 5 3/4 yrs.

If this is a "romantic" dinner for you and hubby, honestly, I would book them into one of the Disney Club night care places for the 2-3 hours. Your kids are both old enough for it and almost all the signature rests have the clubs near them. They are exceptional for kids and my kids have tried them 3x so far and complained every single time we picked them up!! (once, we only took them downstairs to the Wilderness Lodge Cub's Den and DH and I ordered room service upstairs and had a night in, and they were still mad that we picked them up only 2 hours later, lol) Plus, they include dinner for your kids. We "softened" the experience each time with our kids by bringing home leftovers, esp 1/2 or more of the desserts, lol, and they loved it!

Where are you thinking of going?? My kids are now begging to go to Flying Fish this next trip, :lmao: , and we may take them there, but we may have them try out the Beach Club night childcare to try out Narcosse our trip in Dec. ;)

Thanks for the info on the kids clubs childcare, we've never done it before but are considering it this time. I think they would have a blast and i feel more comfortable with those than an in room babysitting service. But we aren't sure yet. These are my ressies so far.

Tues: Whispering Canyon Cafe Dinner 8:05PM OR Yachtsman at 6:55 (the reason i booked both is there is some confusion about chef mickey's for the next day. Online says lunch has no characters, live person says yes there are characters....i want characters, so i'm going to call again tomorrow to verify). So if Chef Mickeys' lunch has characters we will do WCC. If no we will do yachtsman this day.

Wed: MK Day: Chef Mickey's Lunch 1:15PM or WCC for dinner (depending on the CM's verdict)

Thur: Epcot: Biergarten Dinner 7:35PM

Fri: AK Day: Tusker House Breakfast 8:20AM

AK Day: Sanaa Dinner 6:45PM

Sat: FREE DAY, no plans, no ressies...hit the pool, catch up at a park, go shopping, counter service meals...not be tied to a schedule.

Sun: FREE DAY

Mon: HS Day: Sci-Fi Lunch

if we don't do yachtsman, we have one more TS to book. Any suggestions?
