Yachtsman- how to dress?

:D Was hoping someone could answer a question I have about the Yachtsman. We'll be dining there while on our upcoming trip in 2 weeks. Originally, this restaurant was not on our list of places to eat, but as it turns out, friends of ours are traveling to WDW at the same time as DH and I, and they have invited us to dine with them at this restaurant. I got an email from this friend confirming the time and also she said, "no tank tops"...not a problem for me, but is this the only dress code? I read somewhere "business casual" dress. How has anyone else "dressed" for dinner there? Should I plan on taking some pants and nice blouse? Or are nice shorts acceptable? Thanks in advance!

When we ate there last summer I wore capri pants and a top and DBF wore trousers, top and a jacket.

Hope this helps?

Nice shorts should be fine. When we were there, most everyone was dressed in resort casual. Most of the men were in polo shirts and khaki pants. I wore capri pants and a cotton blouse. It's great food, have fun!:)

Business casual is appropriate for this restaurant. Where I work business casual is defined as follows:

Pants
Appropriate: khakis, chinos, "Dockers" style gabardines, flannels, linen or cotton pants, dress slacks.
Inappropriate: Denim of any kind or color, capri pants, cut-offs, sweat pants, running suits, skorts, shorts, overalls, spandex, or leggings.

Shirts
Appropriate: Casual shirts with collars, golf or polo-style shirts, sweaters, turtlenecks, blouses, and knit tops.
Inappropriate: T-shirts, tank tops, crop tops, sweatshirts, sports jerseys and halter tops.

Dresses and Skirts
Appropriate: Casual dresses and skirts with stockings.
Inappropriate: Sundresses or other revealing dresses (shoulders must be covered), or anything that looks unprofessional.

Footwear
Appropriate: Loafers, flats, boots, dress sandals with back straps, leather deck shoes.
Inappropriate: Athletic shoes, "flip-flops" and sneakers.

I do think that capri's are fining for dining at most WDW restaurants. :) And stockings certainly do'nt need to be worn

We ate there on father's day and let me tell you, it was one of our best meals ever at WDW. DH splurged for the Kansas City Strip and ate every morsel (excpet for the tastes he gave all of us).

This is what we wore:
DH - Khakis, polo shirt and a business casual shoe (not sneakers).
Me - A sleeveless casual dress (came below my knees) and open toe strappy sandals
DD (11) - Ankle length jean skirt and a casual top
DS(10) - Nice shorts and a button down shirt

To my knowledge, YSH does not have a Business Casual or Resort Casual dress code. Even if it were Resort Casual you or DH could go in nice shirts.

Don't let the Dress Code Snobs tell you what to do. Use YOUR judgement and dress accordingly.

I'm assuming Shula's would be similar, but I plan on dressing very casually. I'm not sure what that would be but it definitely is not going to remotely anything "business" like. Since it's December, I will probably wear some sort of Capri pants and a little Tee. Blouses make me think of buttoned up, prim and proper, and I just wouldn't do it at Disney World.

When my DH and I ate there, we wore theme park clothes, shorts & tees. We had not planned to eat there beforehand, but did not feel out of place with our attire.

We always wear nice walking shorts and Disney T's (and sneakers) and never felt out of place. But if you want to dress "up", then certainly do so. No matter how you dress, there will likely be others dressed in similar fashion.

Quick story from Uncleromulus about dress codes. We ate at a rather "upscale" Italian restaurant last summer, and when I called, I asked if a jacket was necessary. The hostess said "Oh you'll feel very comfortable wearing a jacket at our restaurant".

Well-actually, no--I wouldn't feel comfortable, having worn a jacket and tie to work and school since 1963!! When I eat, I prefer to be casual and relaxed.
But anyway, to avoid possible embarassment, I decided to wear a jacket anyway. When we got there (on a Saturday nite) guess who was the ONLY patron with a jacket????

YSH has two requirements:
Must have something on your feet.
Men cannot enter with a Tank Top on.

Enjoy!
In addition to the Kansas City Strip, they have also recently added a Chilean Bass Dinner which has been getting rave reviews!

Wear what you want. I believe the only restaurant that has an official dress code is V&A. We wear shorts to all the restaurants in WDW. I feel we're on vacation in florida,in july, where its hot, hot, hot. I don't even pack my dress/business clothes. Tank top/tee shirt & shorts.(I bring a lite sweater, the rest. are chilly).

Shula's HAS a business casual dress code. It's in writing outside the restaurant, and they will also tell you this very clearly when you make a reservation.

This is not the case. Shula's, the CG, Citrico's all have dress codes.

Shula's is "Business casual". They will tell you this when you make a reservation, it's also on a sign outside the restaurant.

This is the official written policy on Citrico's that I received from teh AKL and Polynesian concierge teams: "Dress Code-Dressy casual Collared shirt prefered for gentlemen. No tank tops, t-shirts, cut offs or jeans."

And CG is "no tank tops for men."

Yes, some people choose to not follow their hosts requests on dress codes. To me it's as rude as smoking in someones house even though they asked you not to. If your host makes a request, you should have the courtesy to respect their wishes.

:D Thanks for all the tips on what's appropriate to wear. I think we'll remain resort casual!! I know DH won't be taking a jacket, so he was happy to hear it wasn't "required"! ;)

Now, one more quick question! Is it ok for us to drive to the Yacht Club and park in their lot while dining there? Or do we need to take Disney transportation? We'll have our own car since we are driving to WDW/Wilderness Lodge from NJ, but I thought I read somewhere that if you are not staying at that particular resort they don't look highly on non-guests parking in the lot.

Thanks again!

Yes, you can drive over and park. I would have your PS Number handy because if the resort is crowded, the guards do check PS to discourage those who park at the resort just to enter Epcot thru the International Gateway.
BTW, they do charge for valet parking if you opt for it.
