Any recent reports from the YC concierge? Are the rooms recently renovated and what about the size of rooms

We stayed at the YC concierge from December 9-15. All rooms have been renovated. Ours was comfortable with a nice view of Epcot, Stormalong Bay, and Boardwalk.
HOWEVER, we found the concierge staff to be disinterested, aloof, and extremely unhelpful. Had it not been an inconvenience to us, I would have requested to change resorts. Here are some of our complaints:

We were given misinformation twice. The first time was about the best way to get to Hoop-De-Doo Review. We were told by concierge that a cab would take us directly to Pioneer Hall and save us time. Wrong! After taking a cab, we found we had to find the bus stop, and get on a bus to Pioneer Hall. We were capable of doing that, but it was annoying that concierge wasn't aware of that.

Concierge also told us that we could use our Disney Club card to buy park hopper passes, but that we'd have to do that at guest services at the park. We waited in line over 30 minutes only to find out that Disney Club discounts are only available if tickets are ordered ahead of time. Again, I expect concierge to know these details. I would have just purchased my tickets through concierge if I had been given correct info.

The concierge lounge has posted hours, yet many times they were tearing things down 15-20 minutes ahead of time. One time my daughter wanted some chocolate chip cookies, but there were no more in the lounge. My husband asked FOUR different people if he could get some cookies. He was told they were out. Finally a fifth person went into the back and brought out plenty of chocolate chip cookies!

Also be aware that YC concierge does not have plastic water bottles that can be taken to the park.

We have stayed concierge at many hotels throughout the country including concierge at GF and Wilderness Lodge. We have never encountered such poor service and poor attitudes as we did at YC.

When we stayed concierge at WL, we were greeted by our names as we entered or left. Each morning as we waited for the elevator, we were asked, "Where are you going today? Can I make any reservations for you?"

The concierge people at the YC never spoke to us unless we greeted them first. So if service isn't important to you, the rooms are nice, the maids were terrific, and the food in the lounge was good. I LOVED that they had Krispy Kreme donuts! Yum.

Good Luck.

wow! I am so sorry that you had a bad experience at the YC concierge.
I have stayed there 4 times and have always gotten exceptionally friendly and helpful service.
I hope the next time you stay concierge (at any wdw resort) that you get great service, it really makes a difference.

sorry again,
hope you had a great time at WDW otherwise!

Laura :)

We encountered the exact same attitude from the YC concierge staff 11/26-12/03. They never looked up when we exited the elevator and seemed put out when we asked simple questions. Our take on it seemed to be that it was b/c we had our children with us; they seemed to bend over backwards to greet/help guests w/o children. By the end of our week, we would laugh about it but we saw it time and time again. I would not stay at the YC concierge with children as they just didn't seem as welcome as at other WDW hotels including those with concierge. BTW, we were so unimpressed that we wouldn't stay there w/o children either.

I posted a link to the YC renovated rooms under the post BC/ YC renovated rooms?

I stayed at the YC concierge for the first time in August 2002 and absolutely loved it.

mouseketeerwannabe - sorry your stay wasn't all you wanted.
We also did get the same info as you about the Hoop de doo and weren't thrilled with it but now we know and will look into alternate options. It definitely didn't make us like the YC concierge any less.

All4wdw- We were there with our 2 children who were 5 and 7 at the time and they were treated great. The staff at the desk always asked them what they were doing for the day in the morning, when we got back they asked what they did and what their favorite part of the day was, etc.
We also made sure that we always said hello to the staff whenever we walked by and it's seemed to warm the communication.

We found lots of goodies in the room for the kids a couple of times too. Like autographed pictures for them, snacks (yes they were the snacks available in the lounge but it was nice for them to find in the room). Checkers and chess pieces and game board to play with for our stay and we didn't ask for any of it.

They couldn't wait to get back to the room and the lounge to share their day with the staff.

Even the housekeeper knew who we were and she never saw us in our room or walk out of it. She always address us Mr & Mrs. xxx whenever we saw her. My dh and I couldn't figure out how she knew who we were.

Hope your next stay at whichever resort you choose will be a good one.

Josierac--

Wow!! You were so fortunate! It seemed to be the staff at that time as we have friends who were there in the early fall and found the staff to be as you--quite accomodating and engaging with the children. We had even talked to two couples in the lounge who were there w/o children who noticed the lack of reception by the staff for the kids. We have stayed in Poly concierge, Boardwalk concierge and regular, Contemporary concierge and never experienced anything like it. We didn't let it bother us though, as the lounge selections are great and the pool is not to be missed. Perhaps they were understaffed due to the Thanksgiving holiday or something.

all4wdw: Sorry to hear that you had the same experience with concierge attitude as we did. There were two people who helped us with all of our preplanning preparations, but they were never there during our stay. I think it makes a difference there if someone feels "connected' to you in some way. Even the lady who checked us in was off duty the rest of our time there. We are not demanding or hard to please people, so we are not easily disappointed. Even my 13 year old daugher commented on the difference.

We happened to see Phil Hartman in the lounge while we were there (he was the reader for the Candlelight Processional). Concierge were bending over backwards to make sure he was pleased.

I would never let the attitude of others dampen our fun. Like I said before, everything else was great. I guess I just expected more from the YC. I have seen others rave about their experience, so again, the individual people on duty can be the difference.

For those that don't know this, The YC and BC share the concierge staff so the cm's go back and forth between the 2. They may work a couple of days at one and the rest of the time at the other and vice versa.

Also the itinerary planners are not the people at the desk area of the concierge lounge, they are actually in a different office behind the front desk.

On my stay I made sure that I went and met with the itinerary planner I dealt with as he was wonderful and did so much for us.
We wanted to say thanks.

We stayed at the YC on the concierge floor 12/19-12/22. We also stayed on the concierge floor last December. The staff just wasn't all that great this stay. They would look down and pretend to be doing something else and not bother to say hi unless we said it first. It would take a lot of time to get the milk or bottles of water we would ask for. It just seemed like we were making them do things that they would rather not do. The mousekeeping staff was nicer than the concierge staff. We didn't really feel like we were "home" as we did last year. We still enjoyed our trip, we always do but I did change our reservations for this Feb from concierge to water view. We weren't going to pay extra for that kind of service.

I have forwarded this thread to my contact at the Yacht Club. Hopefully if the powers to be see this they will get on it for any of you that didn't have a pleasant experience.

I stayed there in Oct. - although it was "fine" , I've enjoyed other concierge floors more. The Club floor at the Contemporary was very nice and it was only 1/2 day service (no evening stuff). I also liked the Polynesian's concierge lounge (but the rooms were not as nice as the Yacht Club rooms). I liked the Contemporary room the best however. THe Swan has the best beds - concierge service very nice but not varied enough (unless they have changed it).

And I thought the "no plastic water bottles to take to the park" at the Yacht CLub concierge was rather stingycheap - for the price they charge, they should put a case of plastic water bottles in all the rooms for "free" - you can buy these things for 25 cents a piece at Staples on sale. Josierec, perhaps your contact will take note of this.

Yacht CLub did have nice housekeeping - it was the first disney hotel where we encountered "towel animals". The staff during my stay was just fine - not overly friendly but ok.

Well....I can tell you..if I encounter any of the attitudes I have read about in these posts, I am going to be very disappointed and will have something to say while I'm there. I will be giving them this website and asking them to surf over it to see what the world is saying about them :)

I've been looking foward to this stay for a long time and will certainly not put up with any rude attitudes....

David

BTW...the person that called us to help plan our trip was wonderful and I will try to stop by and say thanks during our short trip.

I got an answer from my contact at the Yacht Club

Here is what he said

Hi Josephine! Happy Holidays & Happiest New Year Wishes to you & Yours!!!

Thank You for the commentary from the boards. It is very helpful for continuous improvements. I will pass it along.

There was more but this is the only part that has to do with this thread.

Hope all is well & thank you again!

We stayed at the YC concierge back in August, shortly after they finished the renovations.

While the stay wasn't bad, it also didn't live up to my expectations. The staff was inconsistant, some were wonderful, but most were indifferent. The lounge felt stiff and formal. As the other poster mentioned, they often began clearing away the food and drinks before lunge hours ended. I had a huge cockroach in my room, had to call for robes twice before they were delivered, the power went out while I was in the shower (pitch black in a strange shower was scarey--I was afraid I would slip), there were a couple of other incidents.

Anne

So sorry to hear about the inconsistant stays at the YC concierge. Let's hope the powers that be take this to heart and make some improvements.

Consistant service is so important.
