Hi everyone. Dh and I are avid disney visitors;) and we have eaten at every "signature" restaurant on property except the yachtsman. Now it's not that I don't like steak because I love a good filet and Dh drools over a good rib-eye but it just never seemed to stick out to us. Is it worth giving up a dinner at Jiko or the filet at Cali grill once to give it a try? I am in need of an honest review/ opinions and thoughts. TIA.:goodvibes

DH and I ate here on our 11th Anniversary (December 17th). The Lobster Bisque was to DIE for and DH wished he ordered that as his appetizer (he had the Caesar Salad). We ordered the Chateaubriand for Two and it melted in our mouth's. Oh and the onion rolls here were AMAZING! They served them with roasted garlic and butter which was delicious!

We didn't order dessert as I ordered a special cake for our anniversary. We each had a few bites and that was all we could handle after a nice dinner.

We really enjoyed it!

We were in Disney in November and ate at both Jiko and Yachtsman's. I love Jiko and have eaten there several times, but I think that Yachtman's was right up there with it, although they are very different places. I like a good steak. I can't cook a great steak for the life of me so I usually order it in restaurants. The bread they bring before your meal was really good. They gave you two kinds and one was some sort of an onion type of roll/bread that was great and they served it with a roasted bulb of garlic and sweet cream butter. Yummy!! I had the Seared Maine Diver Scallops for an appetizer and they were delicious. I belive my husband had some some of tuna for an appetizer and he also loved this. We both had ribeye steaks and I can't tell you enough how great they were, delicious and cooked perfectly. I believe they came with a horseradish mashed potatoe which were also really good. We also ordered a side of creamed spinach which was amazing. The only think I was not absolutely crazy about were the desserts, but it may have been that I was just too stuffed to enjoy one. This was back when the dining plan included app., entree and dessert. When we go back to Disney both Jiko and Yachtsman's will be on our dining list.

I'm so glad to hear this..my husband and I plan an "alone" (the first one to Disney without the kids infact) in August, and we were thinking of eating here. We did eat there about 10 years ago, and it was delicious..but were wondering if it was still getting good reviews. We also had the chateaubriand back then and enjoyed it. I'm happy to hear it's as still as good as we remembered it to be.

Thanks for the reviews! This is one restaurant where we have never dined. I am looking forward to it!:goodvibes

We did this very thing last trip--went back to YSH after not having been there for about 10 years. Wonderful meal! Good service also. Only disappointment was that they did not carve at tableside the chateaubriand we ordered. Kind of took away the "special" attraction of that dish.
We're going back to YSH in May!

wow - great reviews!

It's made me want to go there when I go in September.

This is one restaraunt I hadn't really considered too much before reading this thread!

Ive dined there 4 times in the past few years and every time it has been amazing! Not only are the steaks awesome (we usually get a filet and prime rib), but the rolls with garlic, horseradish potatoes, Caesar Salad, even the creamed spincahe are all incredible. I like the food better than California Grill and I do enjoy that very much.

These might be good reasons to try it.

(oops! My pictures have never come out small like that before. I'll work on it.)

We have eaten there 5-6 times always a wonderful meal.

On a side note, unless you are on the DDP you may want to try Shulas steak house. IMO it is better.

2 cents.

DH and I have eaten there several times since 2003, and every time has been great - except once. But, that wasn't the food, it was the server. Her name was Linda, and she is not well reviewed on this board, with good reason! If you go, ask for Oscar. He is an amazing server and really adds to your dining experience.

Thanks for the heads up! A server can definitely make or break a dining experience.

You know, I've heard this before...about requesting a specific server. I've never done that..and I wonder do you ask for a specific server when you show up..or when you make your reservation? Is it awkward, or is it done all the time?..and I'm just not aware of it? I think the server makes ALL the difference in whether you enjoy a meal or not.

hi mary

i see your a disney bride!!!!!

i love yachtmans cause thats where we had our reception dinner in 1997 when we got married & agaon this december for our 10yr anniversary!!!!

So im a little partial to it

i LOVE it & the food is INCREDIBLE!!!!!!!

At WDW you ask when you show up. Most servers are glad to be personally requested--however, sometimes management isn't quite as pleased.
Most restaurants try to accomodate, but once in awhile there may be a bit of a wait if that particular server has a full compliment of tables.
We asked for a certain server at Narcoosee's once and were told we'd have to wait at least a half hour. He had 2 tables of 10 that night and wasn't supposed to be assigned any tables for 2.
They did it for us, but they weren't happy.

That's my fear, that they won't be happy with your request, and then we would have a less than satisfying experience. I do think that we will give it a try, and if it's easily accomodated fine..and if it appears to be an issue, we'll go with whoever we get(let's hope it's not the infamous Linda!):rotfl:

Along those lines, Oscar is our favorite Yachtsman server. But recently our favorite AP server, Pok, has moved to the Yachtsman so now we have a dilemma - who to ask for. :goodvibes

BTW, just to chime in with the other posts - YSH is among the top WDW restaurants on our list. We try to go there every visit (and we go to WDW 4 times a year), but sometimes we have to give equal time to our other favorites.

We had our wedding reception there 4 years ago and it was excellent. We've eaten there a few times since and except for one time when the server wasn't that good it's been fantastic. The kids really enjoyed eating there this past summer.

We've dined at YS about a half dozen times, and only once were we a bit disappointed(and that was quite a few years ago). We ate there last month and it was terrific. I think it's well worth a chance, and it may possibly become a "not-to-miss" experience for you. :earsboy:

Wow you guys are awesome. This thread got more love than I expected. :rotfl: Now I need to give it a try!!!

:beach: :bride: Hello there!! My husband and I hosted our reception at YSH for 12 people in December 2007 and I can not say enough wonderful things about this restaurant!! The food and service were amazing and we make it a point to eat here every time we visit WDW!! Mark, the General Manager, bent over backwards to make our occasion momentous!!

Whether you host a special occasion or just in for a casual dinner with friends and family, you will be treated wonderfully! Don't miss the opportunity to dine here!! It has become one of our favorites!!

Have a great day!!:fish:
