Wow that they were changing out the 2 actresses and the original Heather had no idea till she saw it announced.

Glad this baby thing is coming to a head....I am sure Adam will be around for a long time. Plotting and screaming behind closed doors.

Marcy Rylan joins Y&R as an aged Abby

The casting upheaval continues at The Young and the Restless. The top-rated CBS soap has announced that former Guiding Light star, Marcy Rylan, will take over the role of Abby Carlton this spring. The fan favorite actress will replaced Hayley Erin in the role.


Heads are rolling at The Young and the Restless. In an unexpected casting decision, the show has hired Marcy Rylan (Lizzie Spaulding) to take over the role of Abby Carlton. If the news is a surprise to viewers, it was equally surprising to Rylan -- who had no idea that she was even on Y&R's radar.


"I went in to meet with [executive producer-head writer] Maria Bell -- who is just awesome -- but I thought I was just having a general meeting. I didn’t realize there was a part to discuss, so it was a huge surprise when she brought it up. I couldn’t believe it!" Rylan told TVGuide Magazine's Michael Logan. "I went out to the parking lot and I’m like, 'Oh, my God, I think I’m going to be on Y&R!' In my mind, this was always the soap I wanted to be on. Every time I would judge the Emmys, Y&R always had the best actors. Uh… after GL of course! [Laughs]"


In recasting the role of Abby, Y&R's writers will have a little explaining to do. Currently a teenager, Abby Carlton was born on-screen in November 2000 -- meaning that the character should be 9-years-old in the real world. Rylan was also born in November -- but 20 years earlier. This will not be the first time that the show has "aged" Abby. After being away for a few months, a previously tween Abby returned to Genoa City in 2008 as a 14-year-old.


Rylan becomes the third actress in three years to play the role of Abby. Darcy Rose Byrnes appeared as Abby from 2003 through 2007, making her the longest-running Abby to date. Hayley Erin, who is currently tackling the role, joined The Young and the Restless in December 2008.


The decision to recast the role is strictly being dictated by story. Writers typically are stymied when they have to write compelling storylines for younger characters.


Rylan joins the cast of The Young and the Restless with previous experience as a recast. She appeared for three years on Guiding Light, taking over the role of Lizzie Spaulding from Crystal Hunt in 2006. In each of her three years of eligibility, Rylan was pre-nominated by her peers in Guiding Light's in-house Outstanding Supporting Actress Daytime Emmy vote.


Rylan reports to work the week of April 5, with an expected first airdate around May 10.

I agree...it they bring her into the mix they will have to age and replace all the kids. I cant see the ex Lizzy as being a teen...even 20 is hard. Maybe if i did not watch GL for 30 years than it would have worked for me....to a point.

If the keep aging everyone than how are they going to continue to call it the YOUNG and the restless...they will have to call it the OLDER and the restless

I like this Abby...she plays the rich teen drama queen perfectly.....I think they should keep her and have her next trouble be with boys and teen pregnancy.....or teens an booze story line as they started to do.

And gee ya gotta love to hate Daisy....her and Adam are cut from the same psychotic cloth. Patty well she's just gone. The actress playing both the parts is doing a great convincing job. I like that story line.

I like this Tucker so much better. And Billie is a hoot. Cane and Lily story line bores me...but Cane for me has always been a bore. Wish they would replace him with someone more convincing.

Love Chloe. Always love Jill and Phyllis, Michael never fails to make me laugh. Nicholas is always HOT! Ashley is also boring. Jack is Jack and Victor is victor and wouldnt have it any other way. Love to hate Adam and Daisy, The others I just well take as they come.

I hope they are revamping the story completely-Rumor was that Abby loses her virginity to Ryder. Marcy will look like a cougar next to Ryder! And she will look funny next to ex-step mommy Victoria! I just think it is too much-like Hope now being an older teen on B&B. It throws everything out of wack.

The actor playing Noah is older-I think 22. But he doesn't look it.

I wasn't too happy with Tucker at first-Patch has aged! But I'm loving him with Katherine! They look like mother and son.

With the recent announcement that Eden Riegel has been cast as Heather many fans are saying WTH? First off Heather has had no air time in a long time and viewers were not impressed with the character so why now a recast? A big reveal will be coming next week that viewers have been waiting for. I am hearing that it will be disclosed that Faigh is Nick and Sharon’s baby OR we will find out who Ryder and Daisy’s mother is. But would that qualify as a reveal viewers have been waiting for? Those rumors are heating up once again that Eileen Davidson has been let go by Y&R. and that her character will be written off. Could Skye’s diary be coming front and center when she told Adam that the Dr. was molesting her? I question Adam’s actions when he was on the telephone right before he left the farm for GC. Did Adam kill Skye because she knew too much?

•After learning about the plan, Billy asks Rafe to join in. Rafe agrees after realizing Adam framed his aunt
•Adam meets with some guy, whatever Adam had planned changes when he realizes the man has a son
•Phyllis asks Heather to join in on the plan, Heather remembering how Adam hurt her tells Phyllis she's in!
•Billy and Victoria have a run in at the bar, he tells her about Adam at the funeral parlor shortly after Colleen's death
•Sharon and Nick meet at the cabin [its all about the plan] Sharon tells Nick her beliefs that Faith is alive
•Adam writes a letter to Sharon, she calls asking that he meet her at the cabin. He throws the letter in the garbage
•Adam meets Sharon telling her he was about to do something horrible, he needs her to save him again
•As the ending nears, Phyllis, Heather, Rafe, Victoria, Billy, Victor, Nick, Jack, and Ashley are shown its time... Sharon tells Adam she's sorry, he is knocked out cold by someone (probably Nick or Victor) Sharon looks torn

Next - Tucker asks Katherine if she believes he is going to pull a bait and switch; Cane plans to escape if Lily's test results are bad; Michael's determined to find out what is happening to Lauren

I just saw this scene. I'm thinking Adam was planning to kill this guy or something, he looked very similar to him but when he found out that he had a little boy, he changed his mind. The question is what did Adam do for him? The man seemed very grateful!

not sure about his back, but if I remember correctly he had back problems real bad when with Heather. I think also that Heather just intercepted the delivery person.

Poor Adam, he wants to be so good but his psychosis keeps getting in the way. He was pleading his heart out to her and you could see that even with all that he has done she wanted to help him. He is like Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.

Wonder what he was going to do to that guy in the diner, kill him I guess, But why I dont know. He even told Sharon that he was about to do something terrible today and he doesn't want to be like that.

I believe he wants to be good.....but his mental illness what ever it is wont let him. I like Adam, even after all he has done wrong, I still like him....and hate him just as much.

Cane and Lily story line is still BOOOOOOOORING!

Did anyone notice how baby Faith was STARING at Sharon when she was talking to Ashley today...oh my, Faith is just so adorable.

I only wish everyone would come together like they did today and knock out Daisy. She is the next one we need to "take out and down"!!!!!

Or something shady like that. That he wasn't visiting Hope's grave.

I think he was going to kill that guy. Changed his mind when he saw the kid.

.....lurker.....have good info so here I am!......
I think Adam sold an organ, maybe a kidney to the man maybe when visiting Hope's grave or maybe when...as prev poster said....he had back pain? Could have planned it out for awhile. Anyway, maybe his dna would match the mystery man at diner after organ transplant. I think he was going to kill the man and steal his identity but couldn't when he saw his son.
