missyc, what does that mean, yep, here we go?

I'm sorry but windows are very important to keeping the structural intergrity of your home. If winds enter your house during a hurricane, it could help blow your roof off. It's a serious concern. I'm sure you are aware of this being in Sarasota.

I'm sorry if you thought I said something offensive, but I bring EVERYTHING inside, not just for my home's safety, but the safety of my neighbors' homes.

I don't understand why we would throw furniture into the pool. However we brought ours into the lanai and secured it against the house and then tied it down securely. Everybody here brought in anything loose including garbage cans. It's not a rule but it's just common sense. The others are right. Think how you would feel if your trampoline hit another person (unlikely that someone would be out in the storm but you never know) or damaged someone else's property. Tie it down please.

The weight of the pool water keeps the furniture from flying around, and there's no way for the wind to get "underneath" it. (A pint is a pound the world around; imagine how much weight is holding down submerged funiture sunk in a pool.) It's POSSIBLE that a direct hit by a tornado would send the furniture flying, but you'd lessening the possibility of damage.

Oh come on...it is not rude or a personal attack to suggest that someone tie or dismantle their trampoline in a hurricane. It could definitely damage someone else's property, which could be a big headache for the OP as well as the victim.

Oh...speaking from someone who had to dismantle a trampoline and board up our house and two elderly relatives' homes...I would be angry if one of my neighbors didn't take the time to do it and their flying property damaged my home.

I think she means that people will come here to vent, and maybe hope for a little sympathy, and instead get posts about how it's their own damn fault and they should have known better. It's the nature of the beast, especially with all the former DBers hanging around. ;)

Bwahhahaaaa.

I meant that this was going to turn ugly. Seems that no thread goes too far before it happens.

Of course I agree that the trampoline should have been tied down. And the OP probably realizes it too now. There are ways to say that without getting ugly. I could just sense that it was coming!!

This made me LOL! :duck:

Turned ugly? Where? How? You may be reading something into these messages. From what I see, people are offering suggestions for how to avoid damage to her home in the future and avoid liability for damage to other's homes. There's nothing ugly about providing sound advice.

On our drive back to the Orlando Airport after Charley, we saw trampolines in ponds, fields and just plain places without any homes around. Even ones with the sides on them. Seems they must fly like frisbees.

Hmmmmm................Maybe

Actually, Dr. Quack, your post was fine. Friendly advice, not at all accusatory (?sp). I could just see her getting attacked soon, know what I mean? Maybe it was me.

I've observed some threads turn ugly, and you are right, this one could go "ugly" if people become accusatory, like you said. Given the number of hurricanes this year, I'd think people are just very concerned. Watching the news and weather on TV, the devastation from these storms is awful. I am glad this trampoline did as little damage as it did. Hopefully, for everyone this is a lesson learned. I know in future storms I'll be pulling our patio furniture into the house, basement or utility room. (Yes, that's a D'oh for me.)

I don't see why she would have to put the trampoline away. When the eye of the storm passes over, you can get some good jumping in before the winds pick up again. The same goes for the gas grill. All that jumping can work up quite an appetite. How are you supposed to fire it up and cook up a bunch of hot dogs if it's in the damn pool!?

Thanks for the belly laugh!

Well, I am glad to report that we were only suppose to get 15 inches of rain. My power was flickering when I typed and who knows what happened.

I did NOT think the wind would be that bad to pick up the trampoline, if I had of, I, myself, would have taken it down.

:D

As long as no one was hurt, that's the important thing.

But did you put the grill in the pool??

I dont have a pool:D But now thanks to Ivan, the pond below us can be used as a pool.::yes::

Our trampoline enclosure came with instructions (yes, I actually read instructions!) that said to tie the trampoline down at THREE points because high winds could cause it to become airborne. We tied ours Wednesday and the storm started rolling through Wed p.m. Thankfully, we had never had a problem in the past w/ the winds but we didn't want to take a chance this time.

Cati: It sounds like you live in a rural area, so get some of the metal fence poles that are easy to pound into the ground and then tie off the trampoline. Ours didn't budge and we had 60+mph wind gusts and live on a mountain where it was probably even stronger winds.

Marlasmom,

If you throw it into the pool it will sink to the bottom and then not be able to get tossed around by the wind. Some people don't have the room or inclination to either bring it inside, or take the time to tie it down, so throwing it into the pool is a good alternative for them.

I don't have a pool, so mine comes inside. :)

Hope your faring OK in your part of Florida, you've been through enough already this year!

Anne

Get out, NO WAY?!? You don't have a pool in that fancy spread of yours?!?

Oh well, you can always walk over to one of the WDW Resorts for a dip in theirs...assuming they are allowing pool hopping at that time.
