I bought my DS some disposible cameras for our trip.. Will the Xray machine at the airport ruin them ?? I have heard it ruins film. and not sure if that is true

It depends on the film speed. The effects of x ray are cumulative so take the cameras with you but send them to be developed while you are away.

Don't put them in your luggage.

I wouldn't send them through--put them into a plastic Zip-Lock and hand them to the acreening agent for a hand check.

I had 400 speed film disposable cameras for our trip a couple weeks ago. We let them through the security check for carry on during both our trip there and the return. I picked up our developed film yesterday and the photos were fine. My experience has been that you don't want to put film in checked bags, but otherwise it's fine.

If the film speed is 400 or less (most disposable cameras fall in this range), one or two trips through the scanner won't harm the unexposed film - and once pictures have been taken, no problem.

i have never had a problem, ps i find that disposable cameras take the best pics, i love them

The xray machines that are used for checked luggage will fog film to the point of ruining the pictures. Never put film or disposable cameras in checked luggage.

The xray machines used for carry-on luggage are less powerful. The screening agents at TSA checkpoints will try to get you to put film and disposable cameras through the scanner. However, you're better off with hand checks.

To see what fogged film does to pictures, see http://www.kodak.com/global/en/service/tib/tib5201.shtml

Ideally, buy your film or disposable cameras at your destination, and have the film processed before your flight home.

Or get a digital camera.
