Just read this from the Disney Blog today "Watch out for xPass, a new form of Fastpass that will also work for dining reservations."

Perhaps this will be the best of both worlds. Reservations for planners and X-Passes held out for those that don't plan but want to decide the day of!
Hopefully it's true! In my excitement reading this I realized that The Disney Blog that I linked to wasn't Disney Parks blog.
