With only a little over 3 months to go, everything is pretty much sold out for Xmas week but I would still like to take a stab at getting down there using points as it is one of the few times my kids are off. When I call, there are always a smattering of rooms available at different resorts and room types for different days. If I wanted to try to piece together some sort of reserveration for Xmas week, what is the best strategy to do so?

Can be painfull-we have done it this late, but usually rented somebody's ressie and grabbed a few cash rooms direct from WDW to add where needed Good luck.

Practice packing, unpacking and repacking because that's probably what you will have to do.

Unless you can get a Disney Collection reservation using your points, but it is going to use a lot of points.

Not sure of how this strategy helps (or what it even means), but thanks for the input.

I am not familar with how this works, what it costs or if there is any more/less availability but I will look into to it. Thanks.

I think the packing/unpacking/repacking was in reference to what you will have to do over and over if you split up your trip too much between too many resorts.

I'd try to stick to resorts that offer at least 2 consecutive nights (preferably more) and then try to plan my days in the parks that are close to those resorts. For example, if I was at BWV, switching to BLT and then to AKV, I would plan an Epcot or DHS day, then an MK day and then AK since you will be heading into those directions regardless.

Good luck!

Try to get as many nights as possible at SSR and then waitlist for anytime you did not get. Since it is the biggest resort you are most likely to get a room there than anywhere else. If you are not willing to move as needed than plan for using points next year and reserve in January.

Plus SSR has no booking categories. It is all one. That means if anything at all opens up, you might be able to get it. At AKV, you have five different categories, OKW you have two, BLT you have three, BWV you have three. VWL and BCV there are only one, but they are smaller resorts and probably have longer waitlists.

The Disney Collection is possible as long as you aren't in the last four months of your Use Year. And you wouldn't be able to use those points for DVC resorts if something came up. And you'd have to pay the $95 fee. But it uses a lot of points and you aren't staying in a DVC resort.

This is what I did last year. Our contract came through the beginning of November so I was on the phone trying to get rooms immediately. I ended up getting SSR for a couple nights, waitlisting a couple nights, SSR for 3 nights.... Then I kept calling and asking about it. As one waitlist came through, I'd call and check availability and add a waitlist for a couple more nights on the end. I managed to get 19 nights over Christmas and New Year's in a studio. We didn't have to move once. We also had a cash reservation at the All-Star Music (we made those long before we decided to try to buy into DVC) that we kept until we had every night at SSR.

Oh I get it now. Yeah, I agree but I don't mind split stays.

Yeah I could not even believe that we were able to do it! My DDs (18mo and 4)were laughing at how excited I got every time a waitlist or phone call came through :lmao:
