On our last visit at Xmas time we spent the better part of the day going from resort to resort looking at the different Xmas decorations. We did not visit OKW. Now that we are buying into OKW I wish we had. What are they like at OKW around the holidays?....smjj

We were only at OKW on a Sunday afternoon in December to drop off a Christmas tree, but we did not see many Christmas decorations. The community room next to the check-in had some decorations, but what was very nice is that there was a barbershop quartet singing. That was a nice touch, for the life of me, I cannot remember if they were holiday songs, I did enjoy the music.

The other fun part about OKW(my home resort since 1994) is the decorations members bring and use at their"homes". You'll see patios and windows with lots of lights and even x-mas trees in the windows. It is a little bit more homey than other resorts.

The Christmas decorations at OKW are subtle and tropical (yep, goes with the theme). They are garland type things around the polls on the bridge etc, and inside the HH. Not a lot of them. If you want great Holiday decor, the WL can't be beat. Y&B clubs have nice displays, as do the other resorts that have more of a Lobby.

Subtle is exactly the word I was going to use to describe the Christmas decorations at OKW! One year at an OKW annual meeting, a member observed (in a not so nice tone) that OKW had no Christmas decorations. We were back at the resort right after the meeting & looked around - we saw lots of green garland, pointsettias, a few Christmas trees in the lobby, etc. I suspect thismember didn't think it was as nice as other resorts.

I think the fact that the Christmas decorations at OKW are mostly those from members decorating their "homes" is kind of neat. In keeping with the whole condo, home-away-from-home thing. After all, no one comes in and decorates my home for Christmas. I do it myself. On an editorial note, I noted that on this last visit to OKW, DH and I very quickly fell into the habit of talking about "left it at home" or "should go back home and get ready for dinner" when talking about our unit at OKW, whereas on pre-DVC trips, it's been "should go back to the hotel..." Any other DVCers notice how quickly they change those words?

On our very fist trip, before we were members, we started doing this! :p

I wanna go HOME!

The lobby and Turtle Krawl area are all decorated in the tropical Christmas theme as mentioned above. The pool dolphins sport Santa hats and even the bridge has wreaths hung on them. It's true that poinsettias planted all around the entrance may not hit you in the face as "Christmas" but they are specially planted. "Understated" always seems to be OKW's theme.

Of course, Disney can't decorate each individual building at OKW. But the members give it their best shot -- I agree that the lights on the balconies give the resort a magical glow at night.

We always decorate our balcony while staying at OKW in early December. I get a little bit more elaborate each year.

Hey! How about we organize a group of "DIS Carolers" to go from condo to condo?!? Now THAT would make it feel like "community!" ...I'll bring the hot cider and cookies! :)

I'm in! We plan to decorate with lights this year too. I even have some "Mickey" Christmas lights!
