XM/Sirius Renewal

It's that time of year again. Time to fight with the Customer Service Dept at Sirius before renewing my service. Usually I start with a several hundred dollar bill and have to negotiate my way down to something reasonable.

Does anyone have any advice as to how to make this a less painful process??

I would certainly appreciate any input. Also what's the best deal you've gotten lately?

Just tell them you are cancelling service. Immediately they'll ask you if there is something that will make you stay. Tell them the regular price is too much for your budget. Tell them you'd be willing to pay about $5 a month, do they have a plan like that? (There is a plan they offer of $25 for five months + fees). They should offer one to you....

Good luck. I just cancelled on one of our cars and they offered the deal to me. I declined because I knew it wasn't being used much (son uses iPod through speakers). I am about a week away of going through this for my car!

Just cancel and you will start getting requests from them in the mail. If you call and reactivate your account you can get 6 months for $24.99 or something like that. We cancelled ours about 2 years ago and we still get the notice in the mail asking us to reactivate our account.

Btw, only authorize a one time payment to be taken from ur card. If you authorize them to keep ur card info on file they will automatically charge ur account the full amount on the 7th month, etc and you will have to call them and try to get your price down again. Since they don't have your card info on file they will start calling you as you near the end of the 6 month period so they don't lose you as a customer. (We did this at least 4 times in a row). They nvr wanted to give us the 6 months for less than $25. So we just told them that we weren't interested in renewing again. We would than get the notices in the mail for under $25 and we would call them back with the info from the notice....

Thank you to all. I just got $25/6 months without taxes and fees. I appreciate your help!!

Just cancel and move on to something else, like Pandora. :) I know, you have it in your car and it's easy. Really though, I think Sirius' days are numbered. Car manufacturers are already starting to put in Pandora and other streaming services into the vehicles. If you have a smartphone, there really is no need for Sirius.

I disagree. I have a smartphone but don't use Pandora for long drives. I do use my Sirius. I don't like Pandora on my phone at all, partly because I have limited data, my Sirius is free. A few years ago Sirius had an offer for "lifetime" membership, we paid $500 and I have Sirius forever. Even if I had to pay for my Sirius I would still chose that over Pandora on my smartphone.

Pandora is just one example. There are many other services out there. Slacker, Tune In, etc. Or, if you have a large CD collection you can set up your own server.

I'm glad you enjoy the service. I liked it when I had it too when I had it, but the fact of the matter is that with other services available at 75% less than the price of Sirius/XM, Sirius/XM is not going to survive unless they are going to have to lower their price and greatly reduce their celebrity programming. Another option for them would be to go to strictly Internet streaming. But right now with having to keep offering people $5 a month, they will not be able to pay their overhead costs.

My mom's free trail was recently up. They kept calling and calling and sending offers in mail. They eventually offered $4/mo. She has no interest in it, but I don't see why you wouldn't get a great offer too if you hold off long enough.

Ugh, I hate having to call them. Sirius and the cable company....two places I dread having to call, because they both have the worst customer service ever! Glad you were able to get a deal!
