Hi there,

We currently have Verizon Fios service. Lately we have been having terrible service issues. I am not sure if it is related to the strike but our internet has gone out 4 times in the last week - they sent a guy out to fix it and it went down again this morning. Everytime it goes down I have to call to get it reset, and they make me wait in customer service hell for over an hour.

So, all of that is to say that I want to switch back to XFinity because I never have these type of issues with them. We live in a town with several service providers so I generally switch anyway every time the contract is up.

I have noticed that we rarely watch cable these days so I was going to get one of their basic internet services with limited channels. Can anyone tell me what their experience with this type of package is?

One of the things I did recently was purchase a HD antenna, run a cable to a window and put it outside to see just what I could get.. ~60 channels.. some are so clear, you would think it was cable.. If your going to get a basic package.. you might as well just use over air HD.. of course, they might then charge you MORE for internet since you don't have a TV package.. so I guess it just depends on the cost.

As for Xfinity internet, its fast but it cuts out from time to time on me. I have to reset the modem at least once a week. Plus they cap your internet.. and if you go over, you pay extra.. I typically pay an extra $50 per month due to the amount of data we tend to use.. UGH!

I have been happy with the Comcast internet. I pay $39.95 per month for just internet. Don't let them charge you more for internet only. They tried to pull that stunt on me when I canceled cable. I said fine if you are going to charge more for internet only just cancel that too. A supervisor was able to "find" me a package for $39.95 a month. The price hasn't changed in the last 7 or 8 years.

I have never heard there was a cap on your Xfinity data. What is the cap? How would you even know how much data you use? Either we don't have that here, or we have never gone over.

I know when we had AT&T there wasn't a cap that I knew of.. but to be honest, AT&T sucked for me.. real bad in my area.. just terribly slow. It would drop to a crawl of under 1m download at times during the day.. not an option for me..

I have Xfinity Internet Xtreme 105 - I believe this is the TOP of the Line product for Xfinity home internet at least in my area (Atlanta).

Xfinity gives me 300GB per month..which is MORE than enough for MOST folks..
Xfinity sends me a text and email when I get close to that number... also get pop ups on my browser..
They charge and extra $10 for every 50g... so we basically double our allotment every month.. 500GB to 600GB
Here is a snippet from my bill (last month).
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Additional XFINITY Internet Services
$50.00
  • Additional Usage @ $10/50GB
    $50.00
    03/01 - 03/31

Total Additional XFINITY Internet Services $50.00

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Also here is a snippet from my Xfinity account page telling me where I am at this month:
    Home Internet Usage
    Used 225GB of 300GB

Typically I start getting emails and text at mid month..

I work from home and have a VPN connected all day back to my office. That accounts for some but the biggest portion of this is from the kids playing games online.. downloading games, watching YouTube.. and their smartphones are always connected steaming something... its like turning the water facet on and leaving it on ALL DAY LONG!!! ugh :( I am almost at a point where I will have to start turning the internet off (unplug box) on the 15th of each month and say.. WERE OUT>> a few of that might slow them down some.

We have Xfinity for Internet and do not have a data cap. Some parts of the country do, but the list is very small.

When I tried to switch to only Internet, it was nearly $80. So we have the package for $110. Between Netflix and Hulu, and having poor he reception- I stuck with the cable. I hardly ever watch tv.

Wow, that's a great rate. We are currently shopping around for just internet since ours is going up to about $80 with AT&T. Do you know what speed you've been receiving at that rate? Right now Comcast has a pretty good deal in our area for their Blast level, but it only will last for a year. Right now we only have AT&T and Comcast available to us.
