We have the Nintendo Wii and Nintendo Ds, but my son has begged for the Xbox for several years. I've always felt like the Wii was enough and we're deeply invested in Wii games. Now he's getting his sisters somewhat interested in one. Any advice on the Xbox? Which one would I want? Any good prices? Thanks for any advice you can offer me. My son is 15.

I wouldn't get the arcade. It does not come with a hard which is pretty much necessary especially with a 15 yr old.

Walmart that came with my paper today advertised the elite with 2 games and a $50 gc for $299. I'm not sure of the sale dates though.

That's a pretty good deal at Walmart. I wouldn't go with the Arcade, either, you need a hard drive. There are some deals floating around for Xboxes with a 20gb hard drive, they're phasing them out. I think buy.com had one for around $199 and I think it had 2 games and 2 controllers, IIRC.

Keep your eyes peeled:

I checked these sites daily:

I did pick up the arcade (know I will add a hard drive in the future from Ebay) when they had a deal on Amazon. It was the 360 Arcade for $199 with free Rock Band set. Since Dd has asked for Rock Band a couple of times but I didnt want to put the $$$ into it before I was happy to get if as a set for $199. Amazon is no tax for me and the shipping was free. I had a MWF credit of $20 from pre buying the game in November and it took that $20 off also (on the Band part when it showed my invoice broken out)

So the arcade version, rock band, shipped without leaving the house for $179 is good for me.

Thanks all for the suggestions! I'm going to check them out. Still not sure if I'm giving in, but thinking about it. It's a big purchase but I don't know what else he wants.

My DS also wants a Xbox (not the arcade version) ~ we also have a Wii, DS, GameCube - I talked to my ex (my kids dad) he mentioned getting a Xbox or PS3 for his house (he lives 2 min. *by car* from us) I suggested he go with the Xbox.

We are the same way. We have all the Nintendo stuff and DS14 wants an Xbox 360. I have looked around and finally got the new package for $399 with the 250 hard drive, an extra wireless controller and the new Modern Warfare game. I figured the extra controller and game were over $100 so I got a machine with more memory for the price of the Elite one.

This is his main Christmas present.

DH loves the Modern Warfare game, your son should be really happy with his gift!

Oh! I just thought of this! For all of you who are getting the XBox for your kids or hubbies, if you have another family member i.e. grandma, aunt, who doesn't know what to get your son/hubby, buy.com and amazon.com have xbox live gold memberships for about $40 shipped. It's $7.99/mo otherwise, so it's a big savings.

I looked online at our Walmart sales ad and it doesn't show this special. maybe it's not offered here. It does sound pretty good.

This sale paper is dated for dec 13th to dec 19th so perhaps it just isn't available to see online yet. Its worth waiting an rechecking. BTW the games it comes with are PURE and Lego Batman.

We have the Wii also I think we got it in Dec 06 (if it wasnt out then the Dec 07) DH had done the same thing asking/begging that we get the XBox360 as well, I kept telling him we didnt need it for the money. I got him one Nov of this past year for his birthday (made for a very happy husband) It did have a price decrease in Oct which was awesome since I already knew I was gonna buy it. Also they had a $50 rebate that was not advertised on the Elite so I got it for $250 after the rebate!!! :0) Amazon also had a ton of great deals at the time to get the Elite with 2 newer games for $299 also a great deal... so I would say check to see if any rebates are out there and check Amazon.
I would go with the Elite or Pro because someone told me that they are backwards compabitable where the Acarde isnt and I know for us we do occasion buy some older games if they look like we would enjoy them and they are cheaper if they have them just for the original Xbox.
Oh and even I have noticed that some game are better to play on the 360 than on the Wii... like Resident Evil and the Need for Speed games much easier to do with a controller rather than the way you have to play them with the Wii remote.
Hope this helps.:goodvibes

Get the insurance if you can. We love our X-Box but have had to replace it every year. We haven't gotten the red eye of death but the video failed once and the drive failed the second time.

We would keep buying them even without the insurance though. We just LOVE the X-Box.

the only time to buy an arcade 360 is if it's a killer deal, i got my extra 360 for 199 at walmart with a 100$ gift card making it pretty much 100$ but that was a very special deal and hubby had to wait in line for it and they only had 10...
