XBOX 360 Vent if considering purchasing, pls read!

We do not own an xbox but if they are sending out different systems to you than the one you sent in why does it take even 10 days?????

It should be immediate turn around, they receive the system and immediately send you out a new one being you are not getting your system back anyway. makes no sense that it even takes 10 days!

thanks for posting this thread OP makes me appreciate our Wii and nintendo CS even more.

As a previous poster said, standard UPS shipping is 2-3 days each way. Toss in a weekend or two and you're at 10 days easily.

They're not going to ship the replacement unit out until they have received the broken unit and verified that the problem is indeed covered under the extended warranty.

:laughing:Awww yes the RING O' Death .... we had it and they fixed it , (2 week turn around) then one night IT RETURNED ......the RING O'DEATH reared its oh so ugly head again . We sent it back ...... 7 days later a box comes only this time it is not my sons Xbox ! bawwhwhwhhwhahahaa:confused:

We call ... they tell us no it CAN NOT be !!! You must have your own...... We do not mix them up........ fast forward 3 weeks..... the dreaded phone call it is not my sons XBOX please return it .....the real owner misses it .......

Fast Forward 3-5 days later a BRAND SPANKING STILL got the NEW BABY smell on it XBOX comes :wizard:

No fussing just asking what happen got me that new box and now here we are a couple of years later and it sits in the spare bedroom .In it's place in my sons room is the XBox ELITE !!!! <insert angles singing here>.

Thats my XBox story :lmao: they will take care of you sometimes it takes a little while . I was very lucky as this was not the case of my Nephews RING O' DEATH !!!! He waited almost 3 months for his to return home only to have it go out again within the month . Then again with the back and forth , but it did get fixed

Wow. I have had my 360 and have had no problems. My cousin has one, and had the RROD. It was taken care of immediatly. Are your kids constantly leaving the units on when not in use? Idk I'm not going to get into it, but judging by your post, I can tell you probably weren't the calmest person to talk to on the phone. If I was on the opposite end of a rather rude irate customer, I wouldn't bend over for them. What do I honestly care if I'm Microsoft that you won't spend what $100 bucks on my products this year? Your post isn't going to stop myself or anyone else on this board from going out and buying any Microsoft product this X-Mas season. Maybe it's a blessing your 360 has been broken and your kids can go outside and play and get some exercise, like I did when I was a kid.

OK, I am one of those folks that have lived in a cave since XBOX 360 came out.:rotfl: We have had the original XBOX for about 7 years now with no problems. I just bought an XBOX 360 bundle from Sam's so can I expect the Red Ring of Death to occur on this one, or have they corrected the problem since they discovered it? What is it, exactly? How long do you think it will take for this to occur?

Mine is less than a year old, no RRoD here. My niece has a first gen unit and uses the towel trick to keep it going, it Red Rings every few days. Hers is totally out of warranty.

Microsoft has updated the chip set on the system 3 times now. The latest iteration of the hardware has pretty much squashed the RRoD issue. In fact, when I got mine I made triple sure I had the most recent chip set before opening it. :-) I'd feel comfortable with a current generation unit.

I game *very* heavily, every day for almost 250 days according to my gamerdna.com blog and no hiccups. I'm more concerned about a hard drive or DVD Drive failure (which will also throw red lights in the 'ring of light').

It seems like a lot of current consumer electronics have their own niggles. My year old Receiver, which the manufacturer stupidly placed the HDMI card right above a amp heat sink has the HDMI card burning out. If I have anything on at more than quiet volume levels, the video/audio cut out over HDMI. Which in turn kills my entire system since I'm 100% HDMI for my interconnects. Lots and lots of posts on the net about my particular model with this issue.

I'm so glad I read this thread! DS's have been begging for an Xbox 360 for nearly 2 years now..this was the year we were considering getting it for them...NOT anymore!

We have NEVER had ANY ISSUES WHATSOEVER with 3 Playstations..all 3 work great and always have! I'm sticking with Sony & Nintendo :thumbsup2

We have gotten the Red Rings of Death 3 times now. The last time we had this happen was about a year ago. One of the things that we learned it that sometimes the RRoD can happen because the box over heats. So we bought a cooler and made sure that the box had plenty of space around it. So far so good, but you know now that I have said this it's gonna die again!

WE have the COOLER!!!! :confused3

I'm not sure who you've talked to that said you have to 'wait' for a mailing label...both times my son has needed to return his console the shipping label is e-mailed to me within 30 minutes of the call to Support.

We have had nothing but EXCELLENT customer service from XBox on this. My son got the RR of Death three weeks before Christmas the year before last, and they had another console to him in 10 days.

Its absolutely NORMAL for them to send a different console. Its a faster system than having you wait for the repair on your original one. You don't need to register the new console; they should automatically do it for you (as they did for me)

Just 6 weeks ago, my son got a different error message (E74, I believe...another fatal hardware error that is also covered under the extended warranty). It took all of 10 minutes for them to agree to replace the console again. The shipping label was again e-mailed, and we had the new console very quickly.

They DO send a card out for a free month of XBox Live. No, they don't automatically add it to your account...that's true. But the card they send allows you to add it at any time yourself.

????OP here, I asked for a Print out label online, BUT they said that it would have to be mailed as the console they sent us was not our original (they replaced it) and thus not registered to our name and no ID is known?????. Well, all I know is I have not gotten label YET......
I am going to keep this thread alive and will let you guys all know the time elapse for the latest XBOX360 drama at our home :rolleyes1
(By the way, E74 is the latest Xbox360 fatal that they KNEW about, which is why it was acknowledged for replacement so quickly.)

I just wish that they would speed up the process....I have been told that they do nothing about complaint letters and as a matter of Fact refused to provide an address to me to send one too......Not very customer friendly...

so, we have a XBOX360 BOYCOTT at my house for now!

Very odd...

The very first time they replaced my son's console for the RRofD, I waited because they actually sent a box with packing material and labels for the return.

The second time, though, for the E74 error, they just e-mailed me the shipping label.

Both times, though, it was VERY quick. For the first replacement I had the box in my hands on day 2.

well my 360 got the rrod and i did a little research on youtube.......and waahlaa fixed it myself in 2 hrs........check out gamerguy51 on youtube....he has some videos to walk you through the fix.....

wow sorry about the long turn around time..

we had had the xbox 360 for many years and only have had the ring of death once.. Turn around time wasnt bad either for us..

My husbands xbox just got the "red rings" about 2 weeks ago, it took no time to get it repaired 10 days MAX. We did not even speak to anyone, we did everything online. We printed our shipping label and took packed it up (no faceplate, memory, wires). About 10 days later, it was here :thumbsup2 new faceplate and 1 month free xbox live card. We had a great experience. This was very recent, so I don't know if they improved their customer service greatly or just some people have bad experiences?? I am sorry that some of you have had those.

This is just one of the many reasons I own a PS3 instead of a 360....:confused3 Plus I get a Blueray player for free!! Check out the new 120gb slim ones, pretty cheap now and no red ring of death.

Keep in mind though if you FIX the ROD yourself you void the warrenty..
Also I was told by xbox that if you add one of the cooler fans you VOID the warrenty as well.. We had ROD 4 times 2 different machines.. annoying!
So if you are using the fan I wouldn't tell them that.

we had the red ring of death last november on our XB360. If I remember correctly, we were able to print out the return label at home, so we didn't need to wait for them to send it to us. I did have to pay for a box to have it shipped from the UPS store. Since it happened right around THanksgiving, I figured that we wouldn't get it back until after New Years because of the holiday rush...but I was wrong. We had it back in less than two weeks, and haven't had a problem since. And BTW, it is normal for them to just give you back a refurbished one instead of your own, at least that is what they told us to expect.

Sorry you had a bad experience.

understandable. I would expect that they do not count week ends in that 10 days. Sorry just think that 10 days is alot if you are getting back just any refurb unit, especially when the red ring problem is not the owner's fault but the units.

I am by no means saying mircosoft is a bad company or not to get an xbox. It does help others with a heads up when people post threads like this. thank you OP and others for posting your expierences good and bad.

My son has always had the fan on his, and using it in no way voided the warranty. It is a genuine XBox accessory approved by Microsoft, so perhaps an aftermarket fan is what would void the warranty...but using an approved accessory should not.

UPDATED!!!!

Well, we got a NEW 2009 XBOX 360 BACK from Microsoft!
Turn around time THIS time WAS faster........still not buying anything else though..:lmao:
