My son sent his XBox 360 in for the repair due to the unit being inoperable. While the service was quite fast(about 2 1/2 weeks), it is strange that he received a replacement unit instead of the original. Has anyone else had this happen?

Well if they don't want to "Deal" with the issue they often just replace it.And currently they are doing that as a result of so many issues with the 360. We had ours have a problem and they fixed it. 2 weeks later they called to say they were extending our waranty for another 2 years!:cool1:
So if you unit was newer- they would have just replaced it. our hard drive got fried- so they were able to just replace it.

My son is on his THIRD X Box. Microsoft is having a terrible reliability problem with these units.

They have extended warranties TWICE. The original warranty was 90 days, and it is now 3 years.

Most likely, they get a defective unit, repair it & put it on the shelf, while sending a previously refurbished unit back to the consumer. It's (IMHO) the quickest way to get a replacement back.

My son has not gotten the same unit back, but has gotten a unit back within 10 days both times.

My husband had the same experience. They told him that they did not send back the original since they send back a remanufactured one instead. He told them that he sent them a brand new one and expected the same in return. After feuding with X-Box for about 6 months they finally sent him a brand new one in a sealed box and paid to have the other one sent back to them. Good Luck with them. Their customer service is terrible and if you look at where you send it for repair it is on the border of Texas. If you want a new one just keep communications open!

The test yield on the factory floor is less than 50% and even then they are not catching all the problems because most of the issues center around design flaws concerning cooling and cleanliness.

We just sent ours (I use that word loosely...since they do not send OURS back) back for the third time in 2 months. It was 6 months old when it broke.

First return (our 2nd unit) they sent us a refurb that was broken when we recieved it! WTH?!? :confused3

2nd return (our 3rd unit) they sent us a unit that lasted about a week and would shut itsef down after about 10 minutes of play. (DH had to get his MS rep <he's in the IT field> involved to finally get one shipped. We waited 2-3 weeks before they ever shipped the new one after they got ours...)

We just mailed off the 3rd unit yesterday. Who knows how that will play out. :sad2:

It's getting rediculous! We've been withought a system more in the past 2 months than we've been with one. :sad2: (Although I'm not complaining....really! One less thing for the kids to argue over! LOL! And they're actually usiing the Wii and enjoying the *more kid friendly* games. :thumbsup2 DH on the other hand is SO complaining! LOL!)

Just today we fixed our XBOX live wireless hookup- it had not been working for 2 weeks. I thought DH would implode. He NEEDS his Gears of War in the evening. :rotfl2:

We had to send our first one back and got a different refurbished one almost immediately.

In my experience, it is actually fairly common for companies that have you send things in for servicing under warranty to send you back a different physical unit than the one you mailed in.

We just shipped both of our 360's out on Tuesday. :rolleyes1
Hopefully they come back fast cuz my boys are dying w/out there X-box Live. :rolleyes1

DS also sent his 1st one back. He got a new one in around a week. So far so good (2-3 weeks now).

Everyone should have 2 X360's. One for production and the other as a hot spare.:cool1:

DS is on his third one. I think he has gotten a different one each time. I am more upset about it than he seems to be.

I was curious about this, as I think they should tell you that you will be receiving a replacement unit, not your original one. Honesty would be nice.
