XBox 360 - Do all the games involve shooting someone?

As an experienced gamer, I can tell you that there are games for the Xbox 360 that aren't first-person shooters. A large number of recent and notable games for that console in particular are of the shooting genre, though. This is probably due to the fact that the demographic of people that play shooters also own 360s, so shooters sell better on that platform compared to others.

DH and I love Peggle! It's cute, fun, and challenging. It's similar in concept to Pinball. You can download a free trial on Xbox live. IGN gives it a 9.0, which is high praise for IGN. You can view the review, images, etc here: http://xbox360.ign.com/objects/142/14227821.html

You might want to browse around IGN, it's a great resource for video games. :)

We love Rock Band - also the Lego games though they do involve shooting its too collect the lego coins... and its a lot of fun

My ds15 has Xbox 360 with a subscription to "live" so he can play with his friends. He has COD and other war games because he is TOTALLY into war (as an historical interest-knows every Band of Brothers episode, watches Military Channel alot, and is getting "The Pacific" for Christmas for example), but also plays sports games and racing (he was addicted to the "Need for Speed" series for awhile). I still love Nintendo though!! :rotfl:

DH has a 360 and we have some shooting games (all ones where its not a real person more like zoombie people) but to be honest his favorite games on it are Bass Pro Shop The Strike and Need for Speed Shift.

We just go the Kinect too and love it and they are all super active and family friendly... My 5 year old niece was playing and having no problems.

If they like a certain sport try those, Rock Band, Guitar Hero, Hunting games (if you dont mind them shooting animals), if they like movies and movie trivia and if you can find it SceneIt 360 games.

Hope this helps.

I just wanted to add that while Fable 2 is one of my all-time favorite games, it is NOT appropriate for a 12 year old due to mature content. It's not the battle stuff that's a problem, it's that you can hire prostitutes which they may or may not figure out, it's not a huge part of the game, but I wouldn't want my 12 year old exposed to that. For the 17 year old, your call.

My little brother (now 25) has been playing first person shooters since he was 14 or so, it's the only kind of game he really likes, and it has not affected him negatively. He is a now successful, hard-working pharmacist that still shoots zombies and enemy soldiers on his days off.

At one point I was worried about DS16 playing all those crazy war and shooter games. One day he came in the living room smiling and said, "I just took out three zombies at once!" I didn't know whether to say congratulations or what, LOL.

Anyway, in talking to a doctor, for most teenage boys this type of game can be a healthy way to use up that surging testosterone. None of my son's friends have ever been in trouble for anything more than the occasional sarcastic comment in school or elsewhere in the community, so I don't buy that violent games make kids more violent. They play in teams over Xbox live and plan out strategies and all that.

Now, for younger kids, I would avoid the violent games. Use the rating system to judge; it will tell you what is in the game. When a game is rated M, I always ask the guys as Gamestop, and make my judgement from there. There are a few I refused to buy until he reached the age of 16.

We were of the same mindset--no guns, no gun video games. Now our DS15 is a straight A polite young man who fav video game is CAD Black OPS (which by the way, he hasn't gotten yet...driving him CRAZY, but hey, XMas is coming up)
It is all what all his friends play also straight A students in AP classes with many extra curricular activities--nice, polite young men.
DS10 is NOT allowed to play--his friends will try to get him to let them play, but he knows it is off limits.
BUT there are many, many games w/ no violence.

My two sons went together and bought an Xbox360 this past summer. They bought some type of game that is a war game and I don't like it. Guys trying to shoot each other, etc. Now they are looking the Black Op game, which sounds like a war game to me too. Are there any fun games for Xbox 360 that do not involve shooting someone?
PS: One son is 17 and one is 12
Thanks!:)

COD in my opinion would be okay for the 17yr-old - definitely not for the 12yr-old but friends are buying just that game for their DS-13 so personal choice I guess.

I would suggest Halo Wars (older game) for the 12 yr-old as this game is not mature rated but still in the realm that many teens would enjoy. Shooting aliens instead of people.

There are many non-shooting games for the Xbox...... Just depends on if your children would enjoy them.

Well, you may not really like shooters, but people like them. I play games like Black Ops, but I like to play some simple easy games too. And not all games are shooters. There are fun adventure games like Prince of Persia, and action games too. If you can't find games that arent shooters, you aren't lookinng that well! Try Lego games, or even arcade games! Arcade has Plants Vs. Zombies! And one tip is going to Gamestop for games and asking someone that works there! They know a whole lot. And get Game Informer magazine, they have reviews and previews of games.

Sure, they exist, but do teenage boys want to play them? Ds12 does play FIFA sometimes -he is very into sports. They all have xbox live, and it's a social thing. A friend of mine has a ds who sometimes has a hard time fitting in - he's not athletic, very intelligent, and way more mature than his peers. Xbox live is great for him.
