Yep, I remember them. And for the last 2 years they have been showing some of them on PBS out of Spokane (I love that channel). I remember Bing Crosby singing with David Bowie, too. I wish that would come on TV as I would like to record that one.

My Dad was a tenor. We always watched good musical shows on TV and listened to good music on records when I was a kid. My Dad had a wonderful record of George Beverly Shea (?) singing that he played over and over and I loved it too. Boy, I wish I had the records he had back then now.

I agree with mtblujeans - keep on eye on PBS as the holidays get closer - there will probably be some old and new Christmas specials. I confess to liking the old Lawrence Welk Christmas shows too. Most of his stuff is just pure nostalgia for me, but I'm a sucker for any Christmas show.

I do! I do!..... do you all remember PERRY COMO"S Christmas specials??

It wasn't Christmas until The Santa rode in on the Norelco Electric shaver...and Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer came on!!

Bing, Perry, Andy.. and Dean Martin too!

ok.. I grew up on a farm in Illinois and in the wintertime when my dad was not in the fields and not on the township snowplow he would watch a little tv.. He never missed Lawrence Welk....he loved the Irish guy.. Joe Feeney? and the piano playing girl.. JoAnn? and the guy who used to tap.. it makes me smile even now to think of my dad relaxing for a few minutes in his chair.

oh how my dad wanted me to play the accordian!! could not manage it.. but I do know how to POLKA!!

Oh MamaJoan--I totally agree with you. Then in the 60's there were the Charlie Brown specials, The Grinch was an annual Must-see as well. My dad was a fan of Perry Como and his holiday specials. And Jackie Gleason, Red Skelton, all of their variety shows had wonderful Christmas shows we tuned into.
Around our area they play It's a Wonderful Life a few times, and our family has made that a tradition to watch. DS, 17 and DD, 14 love it.

Yes, I also loved the Andy Williams, Bing Crosby, Perry Como shows. They really got me in the Christmas spirit.

I remember! Also, the King Family specials.

I can't say I was a huge fan, I was only a little child, but I do remember. :)

I remember the King Family too...I was also young but I thought it was so cool that the whole family could perform like that! Then the one daughter got to play Robbie's wife on My Three Sons.

I do. We have tickets to Andy's Christmas show in Branson, MO next month. I can't wait. My kids said "who?" but I thought it was something we'd enjoy as a family.

I miss all those old time variety type Christmas shows. PBS is great about digging out all those oldies - keep your eye on it.:D

I too remember all those shows you mention. As for Andy Williams....you know it's not the holiday season yet till you hear 'It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year'!:D

mamajoan-

the piano playing girl on Welk was JoAnn Castle. The tap dancer was Arthur Duncan.

Wunnerful, a-wunnerful-uh!:D

Yep, I really miss those shows too... I remember getting goose-bumps as a kid every time the "The following is a CBS special presentation..." clip would play before "A Charlie Brown Christmas" would air.

Yes, I remember all those shows and really do miss them. Also, I loved the NORELCO commercial and miss that one, too! I also remember the Osmond family used to have a Christmas special as well.

Do any of you guys know where you could buy some of the old christmas movies, musicals, and tv shows on dvd? I'd really like to have them.

LOL! I remember the Norelco floating heads! One show I really enjoyed (especially the Christmas show) was the Mitch Miller Hour. Loved those sing-a-longs.

Sandy

I used to have such a crush on Nathaniel Crosby! I just thought he was so cute! Wonder how old I was then ..... ??? I just loved those Christmas shows!
