X-Ray machines now at Universal

Hopefully that speeds up the bag check. Be nice if WDW adopts the practice too.

I'm glad to read about this

Having peace of mind while at the darkside is great

Yep, this is a good thing........

Can't see why anyone wouldn't be pleased by this.

"Pleased" isn't quite the right word. Glad that things will be more efficient, and hopefully more effective. But even though such measures are necessary, I abhor the fact that human society has evolved this way and hope that they're just temporary, even if it takes decades, long past my lifetime, to evolve to the point that they're no longer needed.

Gary, you choose your words.......I'll choose mine.

I don't rely on perfect grammar for posts on the dis.

It wasn't about grammar, nor intended as a criticism, and I'm sorry if it came across that way. It's just a comment about society today.

Life will never go back to the "old way"

Be prepared for things like this happening more in the future

This is the society we have to live in
And it will get more complicated as the years go on

Our next generation will accept ramped up security as they will be raised with it and accept it

I do like the new security that UO has started
I want to be in a park that is attempting to prevent harm to anyone

UO is still at the size where they can implement the entrance screening

Disney is huge and has many different properties involved when vacationing there
I can not imagine them having the metal detectors at all their park entrances
That would be a massive undertaking

Is this just for those coming in through the parking garage? What about onsite resort guests?

That is a good question, as I haven't used the boats in ages. I typically go to the parks like an every day guest, or if I stay on property I just walk there, which in both cases one way, or another you do go through a security check point.

However, I just checked online and on touringplans' blog, they say they are currently working on permits to install metal detectors in the boat dock areas. Do not know how much of a reliable source they are when it comes to that sort of information, however, due to how secure they've been trying to make things in CityWalk/Universal and using common sense, I would imagine it is happening, if it hasn't happened yet.

I do not know how much "faster" things will be, as last time I went through security it looked just about the same. However, it will be more efficient in the sense that it's going through a machine in one motion and not relying on people to check and double check while fumbling through all your stuff.

What about the boats though?
Last October they had checks at the boat dock for those at the hotel

All bags checked before you got on the boat
I was checked each time if I had a bag or purse of any type

Lanyards don't count ...... Lol

That is the only check

For using the boats after midnight
From city walk to hotel, hotel cards have to be shown

No metal detectors if that is what you were wondering about on what I read
Mainly for those coming in from city walk

At the RPR boat docks your bags are checked and there is a person with a hand scanner that scans around your body real quick. If you walk the path to city walk/parks you go thru metal detector and your bags are checked. Guessing it's the same for the parking lots bc I've never been there

This just solidifies that I won't be carrying a bag for my day trip to universal. I'm all for bag search and stuff but x-ray just seems excessive to me. That of course is just my personal opinion and I will follow the rules of the establishments I want to visit or not go.

I never carry a bag, I'm more concerned with the line(s) the searches create.

While walking the path up to citiwalk/parks we walked straight up to the table. Places our phones in a bowl on the table and I carried a Vera Bradley wristlet, so I just opened it real fast for them to peek. The days we had a string backpack it took all of 10-20 seconds for them to look. And you just walk they the metal detector arch next to the table. Never once did we have to wait. Always walked right up and we were the only ones there. At the boat dock we might have waited a minute for one of two people in front of us to have their bag checked. I bet the parking lot line is very busy but not the other stops. Really wish I would have taken a picture of it so you could all see what it's like. Just wanted to add there isn't an X-ray machine that checks your bags like they do at the airport. Just someone peeking in looking for guns/weapons
