Hi,

I'm heading to Orlando with my family in a couple of weeks and we're staying at the Wyndham Palace. We've been a little unsettled by the reports other people have written and would love to hear from anyone who's been recently. We're staying in a suite which i think is in the small tower.

Thanks

:cheer2:

My wife and I have stayed at the Wyndham 3 times. Based on our experience the 1st two stays, we couldn't have been happier. The hotel is clean and spacious and met all of our needs. It was our favorite Orlando-area hotel.

After our last stay, however, I doubt we'll ever return. Well, I should amend that; they sent us a certificate for a free stay in the future. We'll likely use that and never return after that.

To me the Wyndham is like flying a discount airline. If everything goes fine, then it is a wonderful experience. When there are problems, though, everything falls apart and good luck getting someone at Wyndham to care enough to actually help.

In our case, we had made very particular reservations due to some needs we had. I paid extra for the accomodations in light of that, and had specific written confirmation. On the day of our arrival, we called and confirmed our reservations and accomodations. All was well except they didn't have our Wyndham By Request number on our folio. A minor bump, but a sign of things to come.

When we arrived, all the rooms of the type we reserved were gone. They could put us in a much smaller room without other needed elements and without any compensation for the higher rate paid. When I asked to speak with a manager, he never materialized, but a room suddenly appeared. Unfortunately, when my wife went to that room while I parked the car, she walked in on another couple in bed. Very embarassing.

Return to the front desk. Stand in line 30 minutes. Explain the situation. No apology and they put us in another room that once again doesn't match up with our reservation and is not even a standard room at the property. (And, it had someone else's prearranged room service in it.) I asked to speak with the manager. Finally, he calls on the phone and tells me that I'm being difficult and will take what I'm given or he will call the police and have me escorted off the property and arrested. (On what charge, I have no idea.)

Since we'd already be trying to check in for over 2 hours, we took what they gave us and that was the beginning of a rough multiple night stay at the property.

There were other annoyances--such as the fact that each day our room keys stopped working, so every day we had to go back to the lobby and wait 30 minutes or more to get new keys whenever we wanted to go back into our room.

When it was all over, I wrote a letter to the corporate Wyndham offices and got a full refund for our stay. But the trip overall made for a much less than desired Christmas vacation.

So, my advice and experience with the Wyndham is that when things go OK or you have no particular needs, they are fine. Beyond that, good luck.

Oh my goodness! What a truly awful experience! You certainly deserved a full refund and a certificate for a free stay. I'm not sure I could stay even for free after such an experience!

DH and I stayed at Wyndham Palace last year for 2 or 3 nights and thought it was a nice enough hotel but overpriced (we paid a discounted rate of $89/night). All the restaurants at the hotel are incredibly pricey, and the transportation to the parks wasn't particularly good. For the price, I would stay at a Value resort for the transportation, foodcourt, and fun Disney theming.

Thanks for that, sounds like you had an awful time in your last stay. Glad you got a free stay out of it, maybe it'll be able to change your opinion of the hotel. Still nervous about it, when things go wrong the reports are just apalling but when everything's ok it's like they're describing a different hotel

We've stayed on hotel plaza boulevard the previous 3 visits and found the buses to be brilliant especially if you managed to be among the first few stops! Hotel Royal Plaza was great for that, but was a little tired and has since shut for renovations after the hurricanes.

Does anyone know how the extra hilton and wyndham buses operate? We couldn't quite understand why we picked up from these on the regular bus when they seemed to have their own.

Oh well, we'll just have to see what happens! I guess we're all going with low expectations so that'll help :cheer2:

We recently stayed in an Island Resort Suite and it was great. We are WyndhamByRequest members and got giant choclate chip cookies upon arrival. We had spa treatments and ate at Artur's 27 as well.

That's good to hear, we were thinking of having a couple of spa treatments as a special treat :cool1:! Was the room ok? If so, i was wondering if you could give me the room number just in case. I have a very picky family :sad2:

Thank you so much for your post, hope you had a lovely time in disneyworld :earboy2: .

My husband and I had our wedding there this past April. We stayed in a suite in the Island resort tower. The suite was the only good thing about our stay. (of course me marrying my Prince as well). Too many bad points to mention but most had to do with the wedding day itself.

Like TonyPitt, they offered us a free 2 night/3 day stay good for a year.

I'll have to look and see if I have the room number on anything. I requested a higher floor with a view of Downtown Disney but rec'd a garden type view on a lower floor. Two balconies, one full tub and separate shower and one half bath, small fridge, 2 TVs. There was a little carpet damage where the bedroom connected to the bath and they didn't leave any towels in the room but delivered them quickly when called. I wouldn't suggest the hot stone massage because I was burnt. My wife got the shiatsu/swedish combo and was very happy. Arthur's is great but will set you back about $150 for a couple.

Thanks, i'd really appreciate that. Sorry to be annoying :bounce: but i was wondering if the balconies were big enough to sit on and if so were there seats out there?

I'm not sure they ever really consider requests, it seems to come down to what's available when you check in! Anyway, looking forward to hearing from you and can't wait to be in the magic :wizard:

Geez, what an expereince! I have only stayed there once for a PTA convention and really enjoyed the place. But, I am not sure I would go back had I been treated like that.

I stayed there for a few days last fall. It was an ok stay for but IMO, overrated. I got a good price via priceline, so no real complaints here but I I would feel that I had paid too much if I paid regular room rate.

It wasn't a busy time, so everything requesting things went pretty quickly. I don't know how well things run when it is busy.

I had a standard room and the balcony was kind of small. It would fit two people but it and the chairs/tables were filthy and wet!

Hmm, we've not paid full price either and from the comments i've read i'm pretty glad! Did you actually ask the staff to clean the balcony area? I have heard maids are often not contracted to clean outside areas and maintanence don't cover it either. So just who it falls to is a bit unclear!

Perhaps we'll head to wall-mart and clean it ourselves :rotfl2: !!!

I wasn't going to use the balcony anyways so I never bothered to ask but I sure wasn't going to sit out there without it being cleaned up. I think all that water was from the hurricane that had hit.....several weeks before I got there.

I would get some supplies, just in case lol. It did not appear they cleaned it on a regular basis.

My wife and I spen our Honeymoon at the Wyndham Palace over 10 years ago, it was called the Buena Vista Palace then.

We thought the resort was FANTASTIC, but of course we might not have known any better.

We thought the rooms were very large, clean and we loved the pools. They were open all night long and we would go swimming at midnight with all the other honeymooners.

Well, back from my holiday :sad1: and i can tell you that i was actually pretty impressed with the hotel. We had a huge suite so no complaints about that and the balconies were brilliant, just wish we had been pointing towards :sunny: . I thought the pools were a little small for the amount of people staying there and they got very busy, but by swimming in the morning you can avoid the crowds.

It's best feature for me was the distance to DTD. There was a short path then you came out right opposite the bus stops :Pinkbounc . Lots of shopping for me! Thanks for all your contributions everyone :wizard:
