For you timeshares experts, how would I go about doing my research on what is needed to buy into the above property ? Do you think it is less than 1/2 mile walk to DS ? IS this the closest non-Disney property to DS ?

Apparently Google maps does not want you to use the sidewalk but it's definitely less that 0.5 mile to DS.

I would look at the boards at TUG - Timeshare Users Group. There are a lot of Wyndham folks there.

That property is NOT a timeshare, it's a regular Wyndham hotel.

Wyndham has five timeshare properties in the Orlando area. Go to Wyndhamvacationresorts.com and use the Explore Resorts option for preliminary information.

There are a few basic things you need to know about Wyndham:
  • Never buy Wyndham directly from Wyndham. You can get good contracts for next to nothing on the resale market.
  • Wyndham's sales force is among the sleaziest in a sleazy industry. Don't believe one word they tell you.
  • The Wyndham timeshare system itself is quite good, once you get past the sales weasels. Over 100 nice resorts in more than 60 locations in the US. Everyone you will deal with are great...except the sales weasels.
Best place for info on Wyndham is the TUG Wyndham board: http://www.tugbbs.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=47

Thank you very much! Can you recommend a resale broker for Wyndham you might have had experience with ?

Along with DVC I also own at Wyndham. TUG taught me everything I needed to know! You will find all the answers over there

Any idea why TSS does not carry Wyndham listings even though they carry other's besides DVC ?

Not sure why -- they were certainly my first choice when I started looking, but they don't sell Wyndham. Probably because of the very low resale pricing.

I purchased my Wyndham contract on eBay, but TUG and Redweek both have listings. Also on TUG, I believe you will find some reputable brokers.

Study up on Wyndham before you start looking to buy though. Once you start looking, you will need to be ready to pounce when you see what you want. On the Wyndham TUG page there is an excellent sticky called "Wyndham Information and Advice Articles." The Advice article on Wyndham points is good as a basic primer, although everything about RCI transfers is outdated and no longer true.

Figuring out where you want to buy is much more complicated with Wyndham than with DVC -- because of the number of resorts, and also because Wyndham has several types of products. So you really need to do some homework before you take the plunge.

I'd investigate enough to figure out what's best, Wyndham may be but it may not be the best option. Once you do, buying off of one of the email lists or ebay is likely the best. For Wyndham, the home resort is important due to fees. It'll take you some time to figure it out. I'd second TUG and I'd rent from a member or some similar stay to get an idea, preferably at a lessor property to get an idea of what to expect.

I agree. There are several good systems; Wyndham is only one of them.

I would start by trying to figure out where you would like to vacation other than WDW. Then, identify timeshare systems who have resorts where you want to go without having to exchange outside the system via RCI or II. All of the major systems will have resorts at WDW, elsewhere in Florida, Vegas, Myrtle Beach, Gatlinburg, Branson, Hawaii and probably a ski resort or two. But what about other places you know you'd like to go? Be sure your timeshare will take you where you want to go.

Also, with many of the systems, you may be better off just renting from owners. Your research will not be thorough if you don't consider that as one possible alternative to actually purchasing a timeshare.
