Can anyone tell me about Wyndham hotel at Lake Buena Vista? It says it has been renovated --was formerly Regal Sun Resort. Thanks
We just returned from a stay here before a cruise. It was a nice hotel. Most of the interior appeared to be recently renovated while some of the exterior was work was still ongoing.
We had 4 rooms. 2 connecting for us and the kids. 1 normal room for one of grandparents and a HC accessible room for the other grandparents. The HC room was in the lower section because it was more accesssible. The others were in the tower with a Disney view. It was kind of cool to be able to see the Epcot fireworks at night, especially after arriving after dark on the first night.
I have a few complaints.
1) the pool was cold. I had asked and was told it was a heated pool to a temperature in the mid 80s. The day we were there it was not even close to that. I have a feeling it may have been recently drained (for cleaning?) and hadn't warmed back up yet. I stuck my hand in the morning we were going to leave and it was much better. It was too bad we didn't get to swim because it the water was too cold. It is a really nice pool. We did still enjoy the hot tub.
2) The price of the hotel was very reasonable but the guest charges seemed high. We got the room for only $63, with the Disney view so I was very happy with that. But I want to say that it was on the order of $25. This was to cover the parking, transportation, activities. Just be warned to factor that into the cost. Overall, I think it was a very good deal.
3) There were large AC units outside the HC room and were very loud. This was in the lower wing on the left side as you check in. I would avoid this area of the hotel if you can.
All in all, I thought it was a very nice hotel and I have a feeling that Wyndham will continue to improve on it. It is a very short walk to Downtown Disney. Parking is easy. You are close to everything but it is a nice peaceful area. It was definately not very crowded when we were there.
There is a little self-serve coffee shop in the lobby that is a good quick alternative for breakfast. They didn't have anything fancy just coffee, juice, cereal, bagels and such. The morning we ate in the coffee shop, there was also a character breakfast for an additional cost, which we decided not to do.
I would also recommend to anyone that is thinking of staying here to sign up for their Wyndham by request mailer. By doing so you have to deal with a weekly email about their specials. But you can put in a request for a welcome platter in your room. I had signed up a few years ago and forgot all about any perks with it. When we arrived each room (I made all the reservations), had a fruit plate with about 5 pieces of fruit and 2 bottles of water and 2 sodas. It was a pleasent surprise after getting in late.
The resort fee is only $8.....
I checked again, you are correct. The resort fee was $8. But there was more than $17 of tax on a $63 room. Oh well can't do much about the tax. Don't get me wrong, I was very happy with the price that I paid for the room and hotel.
I'm not sure how I lucked into the Disney view. I had booked the cheapest available, which was the lower units. I think it was probably a combination of booking multiple rooms (giving them more business), the hotel appearing very empty and being Wyndyham by Request member.
