Grandchildren are the best!! We have two 3 1/2 year old grandchildren and they bring so much joy to our lives.
As a maternity nurse for 26 years, I've seen almost every situation that you can imagine at a delivery. IMO, it all comes down to the wishes of the parents. It's their journey, their baby, their moment. So I just asked my daughter and my daughter-in-law and oddly enough it was my DIL who wanted me close by. I just told them that I was so excited for them and to meet my grandchildren; but I respected their decision 100%.
So I would just talk to your daughter and see what she wants. She probably knows that you're a planner and that you need to make arrangements with your boss (and schedule) in advance. BUT, you also need to see how it does fit into your schedule. I don't think that expectation is that you HAVE to be there; more that you and your daughter figure out a plan that works for both of you.
