I would do whatever you feel most comfortable with. Even with a cc attached to my MB, I always carry a combination of options with me - cc, debit card, cash, gift card - as sometimes systems go down and I want to make sure I have something in hand that will work! If you get gift cards, I would bring some cash along for back-up just in case. There are also ATM's in the parks if you need more cash.

Where does everyone buy the discounted disney gift cards?

One way to get a discount on the Disney gift cards is to buy them at Target using the red card that gives an automatic 5% discount.

We just recently got back from an eight-day trip. We did not have the dining plan. I took cash with me. It was just me and my son this trip, so I would take $100 - $200 with me per day depending on what I thought I might buy. The rest of the cash, I would leave in the room safe. I took the safe key with me in my Travelon Anti-theft bag (which I found to be the best bag ever for me for Disney)!

On days when I spent more, I just used my Magic Band to charge to the room and paid it off at the hotel later with cash.

The one day I did not take any cash with me was when we went to Blizzard Beach. I just charged to the room this day. That way I didn't have to rent a locker.

I'd go to my local grocery store that gives you fuel perks when you purchase gift cards and purchase enough to cover what I know I'll spend.

Have you done this??? In the past they would not let me put gift cards on my folio as a credit prior to there being a balance of charges.

Yes, I have done it. Cash not gift cards.

Have you actually been able to do this? Many reports on these boards state that guests have tried this approach, but were told it isn't currently possible.

Maybe they aren't doing it now then. Its been a while since I did it. I apologize for the wrong info if they aren't doing it any longer.
