I'm not sure which board this belongs on but I figured I would try it here. Me, my mom, my sister and my DD (19 months) are heading to DW in December. It is a short 4 night trip. Here is my dilemma. Initially it was just my sister and I taking DD so we decided that the earlier we could get there the better. Then mom decided to go along but we had already decided on the early flight. So we have a flight booked to leave at 7. Except that my mom is working until 11 the night before we leave. She is an hour from my house, I am an hour from the airport. To get there 1.5 hours early, as SW suggests, she will need to leave her house around 3:30. Assuming she gets home and falls to sleep relatively quickly (by 12) and then gets up just to grab last minute stuff and leave she is probably going to get around 3.5 hours of sleep. She won't sleep in the car and most likely not in the airport or on the plane or DME. This means that at some point during the day, we are going to have to spend a few hours at the resort for mom to nap. I am considering switching us to a slightly later flight, for the same price, but that one leaves at 8:20 so I'm not sure if it will really let her get that much more sleep. The only other thing to consider is, I am pretty sure I can get DD to sleep through a 7a.m. flight but I am not sure about later ones. So which do I do, keep the 7a.m. flight we have or switch to the 8:20 one?

We always take the earliest flight possible when going to Disney. Last year my dsis (in her 20's) didn't sleep at all the night before, because she was going to have to get up at 1 am to catch our flight. I usually only get about 4 hrs. of sleep (at most) the night before Disney. I will say we usually make our first night at Disney a relatively early one though (in bed by 11.) Also, I have 2 kiddos, and if you think you can get your baby to sleep for the 7am flight; I'd hands down take that flight. Your dm might be a little sleep deprived/grumpy, but I doubt there's a chance of her screaming/crying through the flight. As someone who's had that baby; I say baby trumps mom in this case.

Keep the early flight. Mom can take a bus back to the resort for an afternoon nap if she's tired.

I'm sure your mom will have no problem napping alone while you go play. She would probably prefer to nap alone i imagine it would be more restful.

I would keep the earlier flight if it means your baby will likely sleep. It will be much better for your baby to keep close to the regular schedule to keep from being cranky all day.

Also, your mom can always take a nap later in the afternoon, and as a prior post said, would probably prefer the peace and quiet of having the room to herself to really sleep. If she is uncomfortable traveling back from the parks alone, you could all go and the rest of you could spend the time at the pool or letting your baby play at the resort playground for an hour or two.

All great suggestions so far. Another alternative is to let Mom make the call for herself. You all keep the earlier flight, and mom can choose to join you on the earlier flight, or switch to the later flight on her own. That way, everyone weighs their own needs to make their choice.

Have your mom come to your home after work. She will do all the collecting of stuff when she packs before going to work. She can get up at the last minute and take a quick shower and maybe nap in the car.
