Wwyd????

I am there Aug 10 - Aug 14 too!
I love it when other DISers are there when I am..of course I have never seen anyone else. Not even a LGM!

Anyway rates are now $252 PPH or $279 DLH...are these aweful? Please help! I am still hoping they go down but is this high or average?

BTW....Thanks for all the help! DISers are the best! :goodvibes

As much as I love staying onsite, I'd stick with the DI&S. Now if that was for DLH I might consider it. Of course only if I had the money.

I never see any LGMHs, nor does anyone seem to spot me!

I still think those rates are too high for both PPH or for DLH - especially for a standard view room or 'view room.' Maybe for concierge level it would make sense, but not otherwise. For example, yesterday I was looking on the AP hotel calendar and noticed that the GCH is as low as $209 for parts of August, I think it was. $209 is FANTASTIC for the GCH, and if those rates ever came out for the holiday season, I would jump all over staying at the GCH! But $250 or $280 for the PPH is just nonsense, whether it be for non-AP holders or AP holders. I mean, if you can afford it then go for it, but otherwise it seems as though that Desert Inn rate is too good to give up.

I wish you had received a PIN code offer for the DLR hotels because you could have gotten 35% off the rate quoted on the website, and I wish I could give my PIN offers to you since I am not using them and I love to tell everyone to stay onsite if they can just for the full DLR experience, but these offers are non-transferable. That is what drives me nuts about these special offers - unless you are the one who specifically receives the PIN/discount offer, it completely goes to waste because you cannot pass it on to anyone else who might be able to use it.

I've mapmyrun'd it, and esplanade to across the street hotels (I did it for Tropicana but that's next to Desert Inn) vs to PPH through the shortcut is something like half the distance.

.46 from esplanade to PPH, estimating the walking through GCH, .22 from the same spot to Tropicana.

Anyway rates are now $252 PPH or $279 DLH...are these aweful? Please help! I am still hoping they go down but is this high or average?

Those are on the higher side. It is summertime, a higher-side time, of course.

Remember, there's hotel tax on those rates (15%?), plus the resort fee and tax on that (=13.80) per night. So total it up, and figure out if it's worth it TO YOU.

To me, and I've stayed PPH (regular room twice, upgraded to suite once) and DLH (concierge), I wouldn't do it at those rates. I did stay at PPH one night where the total (including tax and resort fee and tax) was 240, but...I wasn't the one paying, and it was very reasonable to the person who was paying. I felt mental pain knowing she was paying that, but I knew she wouldn't have wanted me and DS to stay in the motel of Tropicana vs the hotel PPH (external corridors make my SIL nervous) so I let her do it.

I just did the mapmyrun route from the same spot in the esplanade through DTD to the spot where you're on DLH grounds, and it's .47 miles. Now, if you start every morning and end every night in Tomorrowland (as well as breaks) then the monorail will save you some walking, but that's a pretty big if!

The grounds of DLH are lovely, but the grounds are open to all. The pool was neat, but unless you are going with people who can take advantage of the big slide (I don't remember if you have kids and if they are big enough for it), ultimately it's just another big thing of water. Can't play on the ship, the big slide has rules...just another pool. And the bedframes at DLH hurt me most times I tried to get on or off, b/c there are edges that I kept forgetting about.

Really the main thing you're gaining by staying onsite, IMO, is the MMs. So is that extra money worth the one extra MM during your stay?

However! It's all up to your wallet. Is the TOTAL you're thinking of paying worth it to you? If so, make the decision and be happy with it. Who cares if someone else can't imagine paying that much for that particular hotel. You are aware of the prices and the ways to get discounts, it's not like you're just willy nilly thinking of paying a huge amount without trying to get it discounted...the prices are what the prices are right now. So if you are happy with it, pay it and continue to be happy!

Nottellin' - Let me also add that we are staying at the Desert In from Aug 8-12 and you might be able to get a better rate than the $ 109. Not sure how you booked, but I called them and got a better rate than the website. We are staying in a Parlor Suite for either $89 or $99 per night. (my menopausal brain can't remember anything) It is an Entertainment book rate, so if you have one, give them a call. I know the rate was not offered on their website.
Might make the Desert Inn look even better !

We stayed at the PPH in April (week before Easter) for $199/nt. and five of us squished in the room because I thought it would be closer to DLR than the Holiday Inn Express that I booked previously (a one-bedroom suite w/breakfast included - I think it was $130/nt.). I know the PPH was closer to DLR but 1) we only broke up and let two of the teenagers sleep in once (I was worried about them walking back to the Holiday Inn Express at night but it turns out no kids were ever without parents at night), and 2) the pool was never used for swimming by the kids--they just laid out by it a few times and there were never enough chairs (and it was NOT crowded).

We've been to DLR three times and have stayed at the PPH all three times. The prices have skyrocketed at the PPH and it isn't worth it. We did receive some Disney magic--a cute b-day cake made out of washclothes and chocolate dipped Rice Krispy treat Mickey heads upon arrival. We also had turndown service each night and Disney chocolate coins were left on our pillows. Worth the price difference? No.

That being said, keep checking the price of the PPH and maybe the price will drop (also check Travelocity--that was cheap when I was booking our hotel). If the price gets low enough, it might be worth trying just so you can see what it's like (don't pay more than $175/nt.).

Lisa! Which parlor suite?

We have one for 139 next year..but I didn't know they took entertainment cards?!
