I am looking at an add-on. I own at SSR, but we stayed at VWL last fall, and completely fell in love with the place.
Would you sell the SSR contract and buy one big one at WL? Or would you keep it and just buy a contract at VWL.
SSR is financed, but paid off next month.
I don't think I could make back the purchase price of SSR. I can pay cash for VWL if I sell SSR.
If I buy the add-on, I would try to get the same use year. BUT, I can only book VWL for the amount of points I have at 11 months, right? Then I have to move to SSR, or hope to get the rest of the nights I want at 7 months. Is that correct?
BTW, there is NOTHING wrong with SSR. I think it is beautiful and well-appointed. VWL is just more "us" than SSR. And closer to MK, which is where I want to spend all my time.

We LOVE VWL too but own at SSR. Depending on what you paid for SSR you'd probably lose $ at this point in the game. Re-sales are plentiful and are going for less & less all the time. Unless you really think you need more points I'd probably just try to book VWL at 7 months (unless you're trying to book for a hard to get time like the holidays - which you are probably already out of luck there by now anyway for 2009) OR I'd just shop for an add-on with enough points to bank & borrow for every other year at VWL. I would not try to sell SSR right now. It has a longer shelf life and is large enough to pretty much guarantee you a ressie at 11 months. JMO. Sit tight. Now is not the time to sell unless you need the cash to live on.

We really like VWL, too, and used to own there. We sold VWL. We have now purchased SSR because of the extra years.

I'd keep the SSR points and maybe do an add-on at VWL.

Well you lose years of use if you sell SSR and buy into VWL, HOWEVER, noone knows, they may offer an extension like was offered at OKW? If you travel during peak holidays then I would buy into VWL for the 11 month window if not I would just add on a small contract there unless you have plenty of SSR points.pirate:
Just really depends on when you travel to the World...

Why not just add on points at SSR and then book VWL during the 7 month window? Your SSR contracts have more years and lower maintenance fees. We have never had difficulty booking anywhere, including VWL, during the 7 month window with the exception of the week of Christmas. In my opinion, more years equals more Disney Magic. :teacher:

I would do (and did) what Anal Annie suggests. :) Keep your SSR points - you never know when you may want to book the Tree House Villas for a family gathering, plus the added years and lower maintenance fees makes this a desirable property. Then add on at VWL. :thumbsup2

We added on enough VWL points to guarantee me 4 nights, including weekends, in a studio every year, or 4 nights in a 1 bedroom every other year. Having the 11 month booking advantage was very important to me for our December stays. :santa:

My husband and I love both resorts, but for different reasons. Isn't that the beauty of DVC?

You probably already know the drawbacks. If you sell SSR to buy VWL you will lose money, lose 12 years of ownership and pay higher annual dues each year. If that's a worthwhile sacrifice in exchange for the comfort of the 11-month booking window, go for it.

We bought a small BWV add-on to guarantee us the ability to book there every few years. But I wouldn't dream of selling our SSR points. We enjoy several of the resorts including SSR, and have no qualms about bouncing around as we are able at 7 months. If anything I'm somewhat regretting the small BWV add-on because it's a pain to manage such a small number of points at a different resort.

See, I knew you would have more perspectives than I did.
I really wanted to try VWL at Christmas. But maybe I could just go over for a visit and sit at the fireplace.
And I know I would lose moeny on the SSR - we haven't even owned a full year.
I didn't know about VWL, or how much I would love it. I didn't even know about the DIS until our guide told us about it.
