We are disembarking from a cruise on the morning of July 3 and wanted to spend one night at WDW just to see the 7/3 showing of the July 4th Wishes. The plan is either a fireworks cruise and stay at POR or get a room at Poly and watch from the beach. We've never done either. What would you do? Any advice about the fireworks cruise is also appreciated.

Poly.

I haven't done the fireworks cruise but with the crowd levels that day, staying at a monorail resort will make it easier to get in and out. Plus, y'know.. it's staying at the Poly! :)

Either way we are not actually going inside MK that day (because of crowds), but just staying at the Poly would be easier than trying to get back to POR after the fireworks cruise. Decisions, decisions...

stay at the Poly! Better yet watch them from California Grill on top of Contemporary! Have a nice meal if you can get a rez.

I think the much more relaxed option is to stay at the Polynesian.
You should get to your resort around noon time - probably a little earlier after debarking.
To arrive at the Polynesian, have the afternoon by the pool, have a nice relaxing dinner at the resort and then watch the fireworks sounds fabulous.
To stay at POR, you can have your afternoon by the pool, and then where are you going to eat? at the resort? and then you'll need to get to the Magic Kingdom and then over to the Contemporary in time to get on the boat.
The fireworks cruises are fabulous and I'd recommend it, it really depends on how you want to spend your 1 day after the cruise. I pick the more relaxing option - why waste your nice vibes on traffic around the resort!

Poly. If you're not going to a park, at least stay at a resort that has a lot to offer. I mean, I like PoR a lot and all, but it's no Poly. Poly has Trader Sam's now too, which looks like so much fun.

I agree with the other responses - definitely Poly. We've stayed at both and the difference between the two is significant - especially for a post-cruise resort only stay. As previous posters mentioned, between the new pool, Trader Sam's, the grounds, the path to GF, the ability to resort hop for dining/shopping around the monorail, boat to WL or Ft. Wilderness during the day, boat rentals. There is just so much to do at Poly and the entire feel of the trip is different when staying at a deluxe resort.

Poly is a sweet spot to hang for a day. And then there's Trader Sam's:mickeyjum

Thanks for the advice. Sounds like Poly is the clear winner. I do already have a reservation booked at Cali Grill so either way I think we are covered!
